They want EVERYthing they see! What is hot this year? I'm so out of the loop...between working FT and FT masters program I don't watch TV etc. I've given them the TRU ads to look at but they just say yes to everything.

What's big with this age range? I'm trying to find some good deals here and there so it's not a budget buster on Christmas Eve.

Thanks.

My three year old son is getting:

-A 'car streets' rug as his main gift ... to play with his matchbox cars
-A pillow pet
-A diego little action figure toy
-a new zhu zhu pet (stinky)
-a zhu zhu pet room (pool room)
-Chutes and Ladders game

in his stocking...
-Toy Story 2 (sister is getting Toy Story 1 and then they are getting Toy Story 3 to share)
-Water drums for the bath tub
-a new kid monkey bath poof
-two new Disney Racers (matchbox card)
-A diego wii game
-some sort of candy

I think there's another thread somewhere about gifts for a 5 year old -- wish I could link to it easily for you!

My 5 year old is probably getting a Quadrilla marble set (to share with big brother), a sled, craft supplies, and gloves and hats (not exciting, but necessary!). Beyond that, I'm rather stuck on what to get for him. 5 is a hard age to buy for -- too big for many toys, but too little for many others. It's harder with my second because we now have lots of board games, puzzles, and a Lego collection bigger than my living room, not to mention tons of books.

If you're looking for a sturdy toy both kids can share, try a nice set of wooden blocks. It might not be the latest and greatest and a good set is expensive, but they're imaginative and will last forever.

My 5 year old still loves GeoTrax train sets and Matchbox cars. He is also into Trio and Legos.
The GeoTrax sets we have are mostly from my 8 year old ds and have held up now for 6+ years. They both played with them from 2-3 and the 5 year old still loves them.
I think Trio are also great because they are a good size for small hands and they can build anything with them.
Wooden blocks are a good idea because they can use them for all kinds of imaginative play.

I have 4 boys and we have always bought something to build - legos, lincoln logs (yes, they are still around), wooden blocks, etc. They used the wooden blocks to build stuff around their geotrax.

If you get the blocks, be sure you have something to put them in. We got a rolling basket. Otherwise you are picking them up from everywhere in the house!

So true of any toy with small pieces! :)

Both my 3 and 5 year old sons want legos.
They are getting legos, batman toys (another big love in our house!), a nerf gun and shield and sword set and some misc. clothes and things.
They would be happy with just legos though! ;)

Toy Story 3 dvd
Toy Story wall clock - free with dvd purchase
Leapfrog Tag Jr. with books

Mega Bloks bag of 100 pcs

$5 Jamba Juice

For his birthday which will be soon after:

Melissa & Doug wooden puzzle

Well DS just turned 6 at the beginning of the month but last year he got a new cars bike, Leapfrog Tag (the regular version not junior we are getting our 2 year old the junior version since it is for 2-4 year olds) Legos are a hit, anything Toy story 3, He has geo trax and loves getting new additions (he has outgrown thomas luckily his brother hasnt LOL), Kung Zhu pets and accessories, games like dont break the ice and ant in your pants, Operation, he wants a pillow pet but I just see it as another dust collector like the rest of the stuffed animals, Oh his build a bear elephant with new clothes (he got a batman outfit for his birthday for it) I am thinking Lincoln Logs will be a hit this year too. I like to get stuff I can add to later...

ETA Hotwheels or anything with wheels for that matter are a HUGE hit!

I have a 3 year old girl and 6 year old boy.

On the top of my 6 year olds list is a Tomica car/ train set from toysrus. He's also getting a kung zhu set, trio set, a stomp rocket, a sonic rc car, and a dinosaur book.

My 3 year old is getting dolls and doll clothes, alphie learning robot, an rc car and a dora book.

Stocking will have playdough, a leapster game, a dvd, kung zhu pet, and dominoes for oldest son/ barbie for dd.

Is there a big thread with what everyone is getting their kids? I love reading everyones lists/ ideas:goodvibes

My youngest is 3 turning 4 soon after Christmas and we are getting him:

Leapfrog Tag Jr. with books

I saw this and just wanted to comment. DD got a Tag Jr when she was 2 1/2 and DS got the Tag when he was 4 1/2. She played with the tag jr a little bit, but now being 3 1/2 she prefers to have DS use the Tag and she looks on. I think it might be too "babyish" for her.

It just caught my eye since you said your little guy will be turning 4 soon. My DS's favorite feature of the Tag is the the ability to listen to the stories without the books. He takes it to bed and it reads him to sleep. :littleangel:

playmobil large zoo
baby alive bouncin babbles
bigfoot the monster
fisher-price imaginext bigfoot the monster
toy story 3 landfill
colossus dragonoid
colossus bakugan
bilibo
disney dance star mickey
pillow pets

and much more...

Good luck and happy hunting :)

Thanks for the info. I just got back from Target because I had the Target $10 off coupon plus the manufacturer $5 off coupon and bought one each of the Tag for my son and daughter. I was researching a little more after reading that the Tag Jr. might be for younger kids and you have convinced me it was the right choice.

DGS is 4 and I am going to introduce the playmobile system this year. DS loved those when he was that age. legos are great too. Puzzles, books, outdoor toys if weather will allow winter use.

Little kids really have no clue what toys are fun. They want flashy, advertised stuff. The more basic, the more play value.
