What to expect re: availability three months out?

The week with Easter in April is really hard to get anything at this point. Other than that, last week of March/first week of April is crazy expensive so more availability last time ive been checking. For last minute stays, openess to one bedrooms is key. Pretty much forget about a decent amount of consecutive nights in a studio unless someone cancels or you start booking night by night as it comes available. Even okw and ssr studios can be hard to get at popular times last minute

Update! We have switched to 3 nights at the Polynesian followed by 2 nights at Kidani in a Savannah view 1 bedroom.

One question as I’m playing around - is there any way to more efficiently cancel the points used toward an existing reservation if I see a new one we would prefer? I have been cancelling the existing then searching again and crossing my fingers the newly appeared nights haven’t disappeared. But I know this might risk leaving us with nothing! Is there a way around this?

You can change a reservation via use of the modification section of the online reservation system. You get there by signing into your dvc account on the DVC webpage, then open My DVC on top right and click on MY Dashboard, next page click on the reservation you have under My Vacation Plans and then select View or Modify Details, and then next page click on Modify in the box showing the reservation you already have. Then do the new reservation, making sure you select for it the same ownership contract you used for the original reserevation. You will go through all the necessary steps to make a new reservation and when you get to the last page it will show the new reservation. The cancellation of your original reservation does not actually happen until you leave that last page.

Thank you!! I am trying this but haven’t clicked all the way through yet - do you have to have the points available in your bank to complete the booking or will it automatically pull them when it cancels the old one?

When you modify the reservation it will show you at the top right your dates and number of points.

When you go and select a new resort/room or length of stay it will show you the new total and the system then looks at the points you have available and the number currently being used to book. If you don't have enough it will prompt you to select another contract or borrow.

If you can't make the booking at all you are prompted with a "Not Enough Points" screen

If you are doing split stays this is the way to do it. Studio and then 1 bedroom. You don't want to downsize at the end of the trip plus the in room laundry will be nice with the little one.

It will use the points in what you have in the reservation.
