What to expect for DL's 60th anniversary in 2015 (Starting May 22)

Traditionally, the anniversary celebrations have run through September, or even December of the following year. The 50th anniversary began on May 5, 2005, and ran through September of 2006. No other anniversaries since have lasted long. Actually, there really haven't been any anniversary celebrations of more than a few days since Disneyland's 50th. WDW hasn't had a real anniversary celebration since the 25th, and that was back in the mid-90's. The success of Disneyland's Diamond Celebration will probably help to determine how far Disney goes with WDW's 50th, which will be in 2021.

But to answer the rest of your question. If my hunch is correct about the Diamond Celebration being over by next May, I would expect a wind-down to begin during the winter months. If things are still going on in May of next year, then the celebration will end in September, to prepare the park for Halloweentime.

Thanks very much! Hmmm, well, I guess we will just have to wait and see as time will tell. Hopefully they make some sort of announcement so people can make plans. We will go next May regardless, but it would be awesome if the 60th was still going on! I was thinking maybe since they are spending so much on new shows opening and how much time and money that must entail, maybe they'll keep it and celebrate a little longer to get the most use out of it, lol! They certainly are making a big deal of the 60th Diamond celebration, with all the new shows and the specialty merchandise and everything.

What a difference a decade makes. It only seems like they are making a big deal because of how social media has exploded over the past ten years. As a Disney Travel Agent, I have to follow FB, Twitter, etc. feeds, and it's amazing how frequently the same information is passed along. Disney Parks Blog will post the same thing three different times, and everyone else reposts those multiple times. I scroll through my Twitter feed, and see at least ten different posts about the same thing every day. Some of those are reposted by the same user. It's crazy. Once Disney starts advertising DL60, then we may get an idea on how long the celebration will last. The next month should be interesting.

I know I am new here. But I thought I would add my two sense on this subject.

I have spoken with several Cast members as well as managers at Disneyland. My visit from the park yesterday also confirmed the following details.

Disneyland 60th celebration is starting May 22nd and will continue throughout the year. There is no confirmation on when it will end. From what cast members are saying it will be the new year that ends the celebration. But more then likely it may last into early next year.

So I hope that this helps with the duration of the celebration.

I have only just become a member here so please forgive me if this has been asked before.

My sister and I are planning to visit the park for it's birthday July 17th and was wondering if there are any different or special ticketing restrictions (apart for AP Blockouts) on that day?

Celebration starts the 22nd of may and goes through the end of the year.

as of today there isn't any restriction or new ticket offers. you would have to wait till around the end of may to determine if Disney is going to be doing any special offers.

Hope this answers your question.

At this point, as far as anyone knows, any valid Disneyland ticket should be fine for admission on July 17th. As you mentioned, there are AP blockouts (SoCal Select, SoCal, and Deluxe). Other than that, I haven't heard that any other types of tickets will be blocked on that day. The crowds are expected to be high, so there is always the possibility that the park will close (for a short period) due to capacity crowds.

On an unrelated note...the Disney Parks Blog just posted an entry about the upcoming Dooney & Bourke collection for the 60th. Two sets...one in May and one in July!

Thanks for posting this. Even though I won't be spending $100 for the privilege of buying some of this stuff, it gives us a good idea what might be available for the public. I'm going to go back to first opinion on this thread, when I saw the popcorn bucket art. What the heck is up with the Mickey art on this stuff?! This is subpar: generic and cheap looking (see the first Disneyland Decades poster on page 24 and the third on page 26). Sure, none of the diamond stuff is my thing, and the art like on page 20 doesn't really appeal to me, but they at least meet the artistic standards I would expect from Disney.

Thanks for the welcome, I have checked found info on this site quite useful over the years.
That is great news! The high crowd level has been something we were also expecting. I predict we will take the arrive early, get in and stay in approach.
Cheers

I sort of like the May collection because it's retro, but the Navy embossed...I'm hoping it just bad lighting. But Dooney hasn't done much that appeals to me anyway.

Oops was posting the same link as above. Isn't it sweet to have this info already?

So Fantasmic & the first Paint the Night parade will clash. Looks like we'll have to stick to seeing the late Fantasmic. Loooong day for my 5YO!

That seems so strange that these two events will clash. I guess they're trying to divide up the crowds so both events aren't so crowded? Interesting.

I wonder what normal nights will look like in time's will F, woc, and paint the night all be about the same time?

I am hoping that when the paint the night starts. We have a bunch of disers, recording it, telling us what its like in each area of that park and maps like F and woc telling us where good view points are. I can't wait to see it , live and on you tube lol

Yeah. My only way of seeing Paint the Night now is the 1am parade. Issue may be getting back into the park if we leave to go back to Disneyland Hotel. May have to try and soldier on and stay in the park!
