I read the Magic will be drydocked next Sept and we're booked for Nov. Anyone have any guesses on changes to be made or do they just spruce it up ???

I would expect the usual things like changing out bedding, carpets, painting, general sprucing up, etc. Speculation is that DCL "may" head toward colder climes (Alaska or Northern Europe) in the future so folks are speculating that they may add some covering to the pool areas....again this is just speculation. Other than that, we will have to wait to see!!! One point of interest is that I heard the drydock is 3 weeks instead of the usual 2 so who knows what they have up their sleeve!!!

We are on the first Eastern after drydock - 10/11/08

Personally, I would love this...both going to Alaska on DCL and having a covered pool area! But I'm betting that they won't cover the pool area for three reasons:
1. Would they do all the pools? They would have to if they wanted to maintain the "children only" and "adult only" areas.
2. If they covered the Goofy pool, how could people see the big screen?
3. Covering the area with the Mickey slide would be an major undertaking.

I think we'll have to wait for the new ships for covered pool areas.

I'm one of a cazillion number of DISers who will be on the Magic just as it comes out of dry dock (we're so excited to have over 400 DISers already!!). One of our fellow cruisers came back from a cruise this summer, and he said he was told by a CM during a tour on the ship that "Animator's Palette was state-of-the-art when the ship was initially launched, and it will be once again after Sept '08". :goodvibes

Yep - That's what we heard from the CM conducting a Ship tour. She didn't give any other details, but it sounded like Animators Palate was getting a thorough update!

Since the Magic will be 11 years old then, it probably is due for some heavy duty engine and systems maintence. I know on my cars I usually have to do things like a new radiator, alternator and stuff like that at about 11 years, and my car hasn't run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 11 years!!

Well I hope they expand the Disney quest area for 10-14 as both my kids fall in that range......here's hoping.

Since you brought that up, I was wondering about Disney Quest. The last time we sailed (on the Wonder), there wasn't a Disney Quest, or if there was, we completely missed it. The next time we sail, our daughters will be 12 and 10 but weeks away from 13 and 11, so we're very interested in learning more about Ocean's Quest. The web site doesn't tell you much. Does anyone know more details about it and about the activities there compared to the Lab?

can i ask does anyone know when the wonder is next due to go into dry dock for a spruce up

The Wonder just came out of drydock last October - why does it look like it needs sprucing up already??

i wouldn't know we don't go til next may:)
i was just being curious;)

In the past the ships go into dry dock once every two years. If I recall correctly the Magic dry dock is delayed by a year, so it will be three years after the last dry dock.

Disney Quest is on Deck 2 midship on the Magic. They have a plasma tv, a bridge where the kids can "dock" the ship, computer games, board games, sofas. They had a pizza party one night, a High School Musical party one night, a scavenger hunt, and a pirate party. They had times when it was only for 10-14's and times when it was an open house and all kids could go. My DD 11 at the time had a lot of fun there and really liked it. On the next cruise she will be 13 and is worried she won't have as much fun in the stack as she had at the lab. She can still go to Disney Quest, so that helps a little. It was a great hang out for that age group.:goodvibes

Thanks so much for that response! It helped give us a much better feel for what the Quest is about. Much appreciated!

Dry docks are normal scheduled maintance...sort of like stopping in for an extended oil change. Some are minor and some are more involved depending on what changes DCL wants to make.

I love seeing them in the dry dock. Darn near wrecked my truck last year trying to get a look at the new big screen TV they added. :happytv:
