Since Satdy afty and as much of Sunday as yer’ve got is ‘free time’ , I though it might help to give yer’s some idea of what you could get up to in the area in a short time.

The Metro Centre, of course, is on our doorstep. You can find all yer favourite shops on the floorplan (under INFO) and plan yer attack (Janice). There are several places to recommend for meeting places for them that want to ;
The Dickensian Coffee House (Red Quadrant Lower ;number 2) for a quick cuppa and a chat.
Costa Coffee in The Forum (Green, Upper, F10)
Anywhere in The Mediterranean Village (Yellow Upper)
And The Food Court (Yellow Upper)

I’m sure the other ‘locals’ will offer their advice on the best places to eat and drink too.

There’s a UCI Cinema Complex (search for Gateshead) to go see the latest Harry Potter or James Bond movies(or both!).

Metroland for all the fun of the fair indoors – check out the ‘two for one all-day pass’ if yer interested.

Next door to the hotel itself is a pub (though we've not been in so can't vouch for it), a TGIF, Frankie and Bennies and KFC for them that just want to idle the day away with food, drink and chat.

Then there’s Newcastle itself. Regular buses and trains run from The Metro Centre to link up with The Metro train system and the heart of that awful town (;-)).
Eldon Square Shoppin Centre (now, that WILL be heavin) and Northumberland Street, with the famous Fenwick’s Christmas Windaz, is a more traditional shoppin street which has a festive funfair and local ‘charm’.
The Quayside is a pleasant walk along redeveloped ‘yuppieland’ and the impressive Millenium Bridge might make a pleasant walk and sight seein experience. There’s a Sunday Market on Sunday (oddly enough) if yer have the time and inclination.

If yer still spoilt fer choice there’s a never to be forgotten visit to the Stadium Of Light with me and the kids. Enjoy the ambience and local banter in the Dray and Horses as you buy me many pints of beer as I’ll have conveniently left me wallet at home. Marvel at the architectural splendour that is 'The SOL' and embrace the bitterly cold North Easterly winds as yer wait for uz to come out of the game coz we’re so popular yer’ll probably not get a ticket to actually see the match (we’re on Howard’s Way now yer kna J)

Whatever yer choose to do, enjoy it, buy me beer and come back next year and we’ll do it all over again.

Thanks, Dave - that's really helpful. Matt and I have been trying to decide what to do. Still not come to any conclusions, but at least we've got somewhere to start now! :D

Thanks Deb, I expect the 'Friday night' crew will sort themselves out and plan to go off in little groups or meet up somewhere. I'll be mailin those of yers that are travellin up Satdy to give yers a couple of moby numbers so you can ring when you arrive to see where everyone is.

As the plan is to start at 6ish in the Function Room, I expect everyone will have summat to eat either at the Metro Centre or the adjoinin eateries (TGIF,B&Js KFC or the pub) before the festivities begin. It's maybe worth pointin out at this stage that 6pm is only a suggested gatherin time - feel free to eat where and when yers want everyone.

BTW, there's no food in the hotel, though we will be runnin our own hot dogs and buns just to soak up the beer!

.........on the Gateshead side of the Millennium Bridge is the Baltic Art gallery.........very modernistic displays and posh..with an excellent eatery in McCoys........plus you can look back over the Bridge and watch the Newcastle locals removing your car wheels ( joking.....!! ).

Or zip up to the Angel of the North...affectionately known as Rusty Bum......

....................Dave, I WILL be going for the Sunday curry.......if you remember to ring me as to where it is......!
