What to do with engagement ring at ceremony?

...well, that kind of was the question! :teeth:

I have no idea what to do with my engagement ring during the ceremony. Do I keep it on my left hand ring finger and just swap them around after I get the wedding band? Do I wear it on my right hand then put it on the left later? Or does it really not matter and I just have to worry about something until Saturday? :teeth:

Thanks ladies!

Another right hander here. It was sort of bothersome to me after the ceremony as I wear a sapphire ring on my right 24/7 and had taken it off to put the e-ring there. After the ceremony my right hand was empty and it felt weird. First thing I did when I got back to the hotel was to put the sapphire back on!

Ive seen the groom hold onto it and put them both on during the ceremony. I think that we might do that just becuase I dont want to wear my engagement ring on my right hand...it will just feel weird :)

do the officiants insist on you taking your engagement ring off. I love my ring - reminds me of the happiest day of y life so far - so I would ideally like to keep it on to be honest (I wouldnt kick up a fuss about it though if they insist)

My fingers really swell when I go to Florida (plus they are slightly more weighty than when we first got engaged!) so I'm expecting I will have to remove my engagement ring before we leave the UK - otherwise I just don't think it will come off at all!!

I also wear a ring (garnet) on my right hand 24/7 and won't be taking that one off. I wouldn't be me without it!

oh thats going to be hard for me. I think I will take it off and hand it to someone during the ceremony. Then put it right back on after the wedding band is on. A switcheroo! lol

I can't put it on my right hand. My right hand will have my great aunts wedding ring on. The ring is a combination engagement ring and wedding ring. After much deliberation, I decided to give it to my father until after the ceremony. He's the most responsible person I know.

You could keep it on but your wedding ring should go on your finger before your engagement ring. Legend (or truth - not sure which, but probably legend) is that the ring finger on your left hand is the lifeline to your heart. Hence your binding wedding ring should be closest and then the engagement ring on the outside. I'll be honest, it drives me nuts when I see women who are wearing their engagement rings before their wedding rings. An engagement ring is a promise, a wedding ring is binding. That should be the 1st ring you put on that finger!!

I wore mine on my right hand. Another suggestion that I thought of for you brides that don't want to wear it on your right hand, you can always tie it to your bouquet. That way as soon as the ceremony is over, you can sneak to the back of the ceremony site for a few minutes, untie it and have your husband put it on just the way he did when he proposed. :)

I had to laugh when I read that because that drives me nuts too!

I have a sapphire ring I wear 24/7 on my right hand so for the ceremony my sister (MOH) is going to wear my sapphire and I am going to wear my e-ring on my right hand and then move my e-ring over after DF puts my band on and then get my sapphire back from my sister before I walk down the aisle.

I am also planning on wearing my e-ring on my right hand. After the ceremony, I am going to move the e-ring back to my left hand so that it is "on top" of my wedding band. It drives me crazy when people have it backwards too lol.
