What to do with Dog while on Vac.?

We have a friend of ours house sit for us and take care of the fish and beagles. It's a win win situation - our hell hounds are spoiled and Sammy (our housesitter) gets away from her parents for a few days :thumbsup2

We're willing to pay *ridiculous* amounts to have people we know well and trust to come in and stay with Spider. Absolutley do not trust *any* boarding facility with our dog. If a trusted friend or family member is unavailable when we want to vacation, we remain home. I don't think there are many people who feel this way. ;)

Oh yes, we feel EXACTLY the same way. We aren't going to WDW at the end of the month for my b-day because our petsitter is unavailable. Here is a link to the thread I posted yesterday!

You'd be surprised :) You just described DH & I

We have 3 dogs, 2 are young and ornery. I left them with a petsitter once and they chewed off the corners of all my kitchen cabinets! So we board them now. I have found a place out in the country that is stunning! Indoor and outdoor kennels, they have a large pond with a bridge that goes over it, that they let all the dogs go and play around (on) once a day. They even have separate suites for cats with windows so they can have a view of the pond (it has lots of trees with birds!). They also live onsite and the vet we use is the one they have on call for emergencies. And yes we pay a small fortune for this! My petsitter also quit the petsitting business, we really did love her for our 2 older dogs (one is now gone).

Luckily my mom will come watch mine. She stays overnight, leaves after breakfast and is back by 5:00. This seems to work for my dog. My mom thinks of our dog as another Grandkid...she'll never admit it, but she does!!
We thought about a kennel but my mom wouldn't hear of it. So as long as she is able that's what we'll do. Her only request was that we fence the yard in. She HATES taking the dog out in the middle of the night...it's country dark here. Besides the dark my dog like to stop, look around and do this scary growl! Scares me stupid..I don't know why, I'm with a Doberman for crying out loud!! But my dog does that with my mom too and she about pees herself!! :lmao:

Finding a good kennel is one of most important thing for me and my dogs (the same probably goes for finding a good pet sitter). It's not something to feel bad about. Our dogs *love* going to the kennel.

The only thing I'd worry about is leaving them at a kennel for 10 days the first time. I'd actually start now boarding them for a night or two to get them used to it, and get them to understand tha you will be back to pick them up.
