My sweet DD3 still wets the bed at night. We are going to WDW in one week and I am looking for suggestions on how to prevent her from wetting the bedding every night. Currently she wets almost every night...she sometimes goes a couple weeks without an accident and then she will start again and wet every night. She has been potty trained for a year now (daytime). I have tried everything I can think of. We make her go to the bathroom right before bed, we limit her water in the evening hours and we have tried pullups/easyups/night diapers and nothing works...she still leaks. I would hate to put her in diapers again (and I really don't think they would fit..she is a bigger 3yo)..I think she would feel like a baby. We have her in underwear now, because even with the pullups she still leaks through (I figured I might as well save my money, and put in the laundry expenses  ) Anyways any advice would be helpful, we never dealt with bed wetting with my DS, once he was potty trained he was done, seldom an accident. If she wets at WDW (PC) at night and I strip the bed in the morning will they make the bed with new bedding that day? I'd LOVE some great advice for at home to...I have enough laundry to do everyday that I don't need to do bedding every day!! TIA!!

My son is 3.5 years old and only recently started day potty-training. He is a big kid so the largest pull-ups are too small, as are the largest diapers. We use Goodnights. I think the weight range is 38-60lbs! I did try to order some cloth padded underwear but it was backordered until March so I cancelled it. It was on the One Step Ahead site. (The regular cloth padded underwear in stores is too small unless she's in a 5T or smaller).

*Edited to add: My son did leak in the Pull-ups at night. There were two problems with pull-ups. One was that though the waist was bigger than the size 6 diapers, the behind coverage was smaller. The other issue is that pull-ups have MUCH less super-absorbancy material than the regular diapers. The regular diapers have less than the overnights.

Yep, my brother used Goodnights. If you're going to be in WDW when you use them, tell her they're magic princess pull ups or something.

Oh, I so feel your pain. I felt like I'd never stop changing my DSs bed every morning. I don't have a magic trick that stops the bed wetting. I did a lot of research about it and did find one interesting piece of info. Kids that are big for their age may have a more difficult time staying dry at night because their brains aren't producing quite enough of...... ummm, something (I can't remember what) because it is produces at a rate in closer relation to their age rather than size. They do catch up, eventutally  . Anyway, Goodnights are awesome "pull-up" big kid pants and come with designs on them that are geared towards "big kid" themes. I used them for almost two years.

I've never tried this but had a girlfriend that used them. In the pet store (yes, I know), they have puppy training pads. Absorbent on one side, waterproof on the other. Perfect size for a child in bed and they are disposable (read: cheap :thumbsup2 ) They might work well for a vacation if your daughter is pretty resistant to anything she might see as a "diaper".

Good Luck!

My 5 year old son still wets a coupel times a week we use good nights but we call them just in case pants and for some reason this seems to help him fell ok about it.

Three is still on the young side for toilet training, don't worry about night time!! Honestly I wouldn't worry about "bed wetting" until the 5-6is age.

At three there are many many kids (over 80%) that are day trained but still wear diapers, pullups or goodnights at night. My advice is don't sweat it - put her in pull ups, forget about it and don't put any stress on her, she will night train when she is ready.

Many kids bladders don't don't develop fast enough to wake them up at night, its not a big deal but sometimes we (yes me included) make it one. Let her wear pull ups and feel success when she is dry and be ok when she is wet. OTOH if she wears underwear she may feel stress every night even when she wakes up dry. Take a step back and let her take the lead, especialy when a vacaiton is in the works. My nephew trained early (esp for a boy) prior to 2 during the day but not until almost 4 at night, he just wasn't ready.

One word: Goodnites!

They are super absorbent and work great for nighttime bed wetting. I wouldn't personally worry about trying to work on training while going on vacation! Dealing with wet bedsheets and dirty p.j.'s = yuk!!!! Some kids just take longer to train at night. I have three kids and my firstborn took about a year to quit wetting the bed after being potty trained. My middle DD never had nighttime issues while my third DD still has nighttime accidents at 4 years of age. It could have to do with the development of the bladder. Whatever the reason, why put yourself through the nasty mess? They won't do it forever. Invest in a bag of "Goodnites" pull-ups today!!!!! They can be found at the grocery stores or any large retail store.

Use the pull ups/goodnights - totally agree with other posters. Don't worry about DD. My DS had accidents until he was 10. (Towards the end they were fairly far apart, but accidents none the less.) Some kids bladders just don't mature as fast as others. Honestly, I have known mothers of kids that didn't even potty train during the day at 3.

She is just fine. Use whatever will make the trip more relaxing for both you and DD. AND have a great time.... :)

Goodnights come in sizes to fit up to 125 pounds.
For WDW, you can call Housekeeping and request rubber sheets for the bed. They can also provide extra bedding so that you can change the bed if she does wet during the night.

Thank you to all who responded!!! You gave a lot of great advice! I have tried goodnights in the past and she still leaked with those, she also breaks out with any "diapers" except pampers...so weird I know. I wish pampers made a "goodnight". I think I may give them a try again as that seems like my best option. Do you think it is beneficial to get the next size up if she leaks in the size that is suppose to fit her? Or will they be too big?

My DD who is now 9, has occasional leaks, maybe every 6 months. She knows not to drink much after supper, so I truly think it's that her bladder isn't fully grown /matured yet. When we were in Disney at CBR in 2005, God forbid she had an accident. I was so embarassed, but not as much as her. I didn't let on, I just called Mousekeeping to let them know of the accident in the morning. When we returned they had totally changed her bed, and added a padded waterproof pad/sheet. And they had left extra linens in case she had another accident. I know it's stressful on your part, but it really will be ok. This DD was also trained by 3, but the nights are too long for them . My other DD was trained by 3 and never had an accident day or night. They are individuals. The biggest thing is to not make her embarassed. I wouldn't do the diapers. And if you've tried the Pullups/Goodnights and they don't work for you, then just hope for the best. But like you asked at the end of your post, maybe the next size up in the Goodnights? :confused3 Enjoy your trip anyway.

I also use a special pad under the sheets its for a crib you can get it at babies r us. good luck!

My DD is 3 1/2 and she rarely wakes up with dry pants.

My Pediatrician said this is normal and not to worry.

I put Pull-Ups on her at night, and we call them "night-time pants". She doesn't mind, and neither do I.

I would just take some Pull-Ups with you, or buy them there.

Good luck!!!

I have a 3yr old and a 5 yr old and both DD's wear Goodnights to bed. My oldest is in the larger size now and youngest is in the small one. My older DD is a heavy sleeper and wets a lot, but rarely leaks through these. My youngest usually has one accident through the night and the Goodnights work. Pull Ups just didn't have "snugness" or something and she is a sleeper that moves a lot. I would try the Goodnights. Three is still young to be sleeping through the night without an accident. I was a bedwetter and so was DH, so I figure I am going to also have kids that are. I used a nose spray called DDAVP to help me stop in my teens  , but you can't use it until you are 7 (wasn't around when I was 7). So when oldest DD is 7, and if she is still wetting, we are going to get that for her too.

Good luck ...

I'd put her in a pull-up for bed. Its unrealistic to think she won't have accidents, three is still very young. Most kids don't have night time bladder control that early. You were very lucky with your son.

I had a similar problem with my daughter when she did sleepovers at grandmas. We used a rollaway bed just for her and used either rubber sheets or the puppy training pads to cover the sheet. She outgrew it- but this way there was no extra laundry to embarass her or disturb a bedpartner!

I know you mentioned that you have her go potty before she goes to bed. . . but our remedy was to have her go again before WE went to bed, which was around 11 or 12 midnight. That made a HUGE difference until she was developed enough to hold it through the night. :cool1:

I would just go in and get her and set her on the toilet, quietly tell her it's potty time and viola! Really worked well and only had to do it for a few months. :cheer2:

but we've found that it's different with the Goodnights...IT doesn't break out unless the "wetness" is next to her skin for a long time. So, we get those things off as soon as we can. You might also consider some diaper rash cream on the bottom as a wetness barrier.

My DD is 8 and still has trouble. (heriditary) Her Dr has just now said we should try some other things...bed alarms, medication etc. At 3, I'd say you're well on your way to having a fully trained kids. Don't sweat it!!

Have a delightful trip to WDW -- with Goodnights in hand! THey don't sell them onsite.

And use the size your child is supposed to wear...the next size is huge..unless your child is very wide around the middle and legs, there will probably be gaps.

:)

Agreed to buy the size that is supposed to fit her. They don't run like the diapers that have such a small window of sizes. I'm not sure how big your 3 year old is, but my son is 43 lbs and 42 in and the smaller size fits him perfectly. The smaller size starts at 38 pounds I think. If she's smaller than this, or if her weight is in a different area, they may leak since they're too big - in which case I'd suggest diapers. I'm hesitant to suggest pull-ups since they aren't made to hold large pees and then stay on. Another suggestion is to let her wear underwear and a diaper. She could do the diaper first if she wanted the appearance of underwear. Or the underwear first if she wanted the feeling of underwear - though that would mean an immediate change if she wet during the night, but at least the sheets will be fine.
