What to do with a child that still wets the bed???

If you go to the adult diaper section they sell underpads for the bed. They usually come in two different size. These may be helpful to keep the bed dry.

At Disney we call mousekeeping. We explain that she sometimes has accidents and we were told by a friend that they have a special mattress cover (it is a shower curtain). They bring them no problem.

For family and friends house we use the mattress protections from the medical store. They are great. They move around a little on top of the sheets but are fine under the sheets. We have done it both ways.

I wouldn't worry at all!! 3 is still very young to expect them to hold it all night!! My dd didn't start potty training til she was 3 - she is 5 now, and still wears pull up's to bed at night - she very rarely wakes up with a dry pull up. Maybe 3 times a week. The dr. said that some kids bladders are just slower developing, and she is a sound sleeper.

Don't stress over it! Just get some Goodnights, and you will have a good morning! LOL

DD turned 4 in September and wakes up wet almost every morning. We just use the night time pull-ups, new from Huggies. She is a deep sleeper. She will be ready when she is ready.

Target also sells a small waterproof mattress pad that travels very well. We take it when we go on vacation, and we use GoodNites as well.

Our 3.5 yr old girl uses the new Huggies Pull-Ups made just for night-time use. I can usually get them at Target, Walgreen's and some Grocery Stores. I think the boy version has Buzz on them, girls have the DP. She is very tall for her age, and we have had no problems. We used to use GoodNights, but found them to be bulky. She likes these much better, as she is potty-trained during the day, and isn't used to wearing diapers anymore. I second the idea of your daughter maybe using both underwear and a diaper (that kohlby suggested) if that makes her feel better. When traveling we also use a crib-size waterproof pad that just goes underneath the bottom sheet. It is not overly thick, so not a problem to pack. Good luck!

Not to burst the bubble but my oldest is 5 and he still has nighttime accidents. I find myself going through various degrees of emotions about it. I sometimes sneak on a Goodnight after he's been asleep for an hour but the Doctor told me that some children just have immature bladders and they don't catch up with the children until they are older. In my son's case he's also a very deep sleeper and won't wake up in time.

We've tried cutting out drinks, not eating after 6, you name it - it's hard though because I don't want to punish him for something that he really can't control.

In your case 3 is still very young and it's very normal.

My DD is 4 and although she has been potty trained for over a year and a half she still occassionally wets the bed. She is also big for her age (45 inches tall!) so maybe the whole brain thing is true! In the beginning, I used goodnights and they leaked for me also. Rather than change all the bedding at night, I bought about 3-4 of those absorbent crib pads that babies r us sells. They are a felt like material on one side and vinyl on the other. They work great! I layer them so that when she does wet the bed, I just take the top 2 off and I still have another 2 to protect the bed while I wash the other 2. She has gotten better over the last 6 months (she is currently 4 and 4 months old) so I have her sleep in underwear only now..But the pads keep me from having to clean the mattress if she does slip up.

I had no idea that WDW provides a rubber sheet for these problems. I was going to bring my pads down there with me in Feb. But now I'm glad that I can leave them at home! Thanks Dis boards, once again, for helpful info! :wave2:

Thanks for the advice on the pads...I am going to check those out. It would be great to not have to change the bedding every night! She is on her not wetting phase for the last few nights (usually lasts for a week and then she starts wetting every night for a week or so...not sure what is up with that??) Thanks for all the great suggestions and reassurance!

3 Is still young, But there is an alarm system that you attach a sensor to the night clothing close to the source, The alarm will wake them up to go to the bathroom. It helps train them as to the feeling they get when they need to go but are sleeping. It works well.
Best of luck,
Nick

My sons are 10 7 4 and 2 they were all toilet trained before they had their second birthdays NOT by my choice after the first one ..running to the bathroom every five seconds..needing to see the bathroom at EVERY single store, gas station etc. I would have been content to let the others stay in diapers as long as they wanted unfortunatly for me they decided by age 2 was enough for them. However my 7 y/o still has occasional night time accidents and the 4 y/o is wet almost every night. We use the new nightime Pull ups for him and the 2 y/o even though he is dry more often than not. Just goes to show each child is dramtically different and you just need to do whatever to keep yourself sane w/o hurting their self-esteem

Here is a good website for information and products:
the Bedwetting Store
They sell the alarms that someone mentioned, disposable and re-usable underpants and pads. They do point out that most kids are dry at night by age 6 years, but many have at least some wet nights until that age.

Both my younger ones had problems w/ disposies and bed-wetting. I used cloth dipes most of the time, but when we travelled, I had to do something else. I used the Goodnites, but put on a pair of training pants lined with a microfleece liner first. The microfleece wicked the moisture away, keeping the skin drier, while the training pants offered a first line of absorbency as well as protection from the irritant in the Good Nite. We never had a leak and my now 10yo actually would start to wake up b/c she could feel the wetness. An added bonus...if they didn't wet, you could re-use the Good Nite and just put on fresh training pants.

My oldest 2 never had night problems but they were 3 when trained. My youngest DD would have accidents more when we traveled and hardly any at home. We used overnights with a pair of underwear over top, to make her feel better. She also knew they were just in case.

A friend of mine had a lot of accidents with her boys and she just started getting up during the night, like when you go to roll over or something, and carry her son into the bathroom and tell him it was time to go potty. This
worked for her.

Try not to be too embarassed, this sounds like it is a common enough occurence that Disney housekeeping must be used to it.

My DD is 5 1/2 and still wets the bed on occasion (usually when super tired). Our ped. does not worry about it, so I don't either. He says every kid is different and she'll get it when she gets it. She potty trained at 2 yrs old really well during the day, its just the night thing she cannot get.

What I do that helps. Like you do, limit water and have them go potty before bed. Then I also try to get her used to waking to pee. I go to bed about 3 hrs after she does so when I head to bed, I wake her up and take her potty. I try to "WAKE HER" but usually she sleeps through it. She sleeps in panties and yes some nights we have problems. She knows how to get herself up, change herself and sleep on the floor.

When traveling though, I do use pull ups. Its not jsut the laundry, its the mattress and how unsanitary it is for urine to be on them. I don't always know about the mattress pad, if it is lined like mine is or not. If your DD still leaks from pullups, try the next size up. Or like others have commented try GoodNights! That with waking them in the middle of the night to pee, may help.

GOOD LUCK

I think your best bet would be to try the Goodnights. My 3.5 y.o. DD has been daytime trained for almost a year now but we put her in pull-ups at night (she's small and doesn't always wake up wet so pull-ups are fine).

This is JMHO, but anything more makes the bed wetting more of a big deal, and it just isn't at that still-young age. KWIM? We will be packing one pull-up for every night of our trip and that will be it. No worries and no fuss. Hope you find what works for you.

dd4 still wears Pull-Ups...sometimes she fills them and we just change it in the middle of the night while she is sleeping. This eliminated some of the leaking/overflow.

I feel your pain, too. You might just want to accept this as natural and just bring a plastic/protective barrier as a bedspread just in case. These things happen.

After reading through the posts, I haven't seen one particular question asked. How much does your child drink prior to going to bed? Sometimes having a lot to drink will usually have the child going more often.

DS4 is still in pull-ups at night. If he drinks too much about 1-2 hours prior to bed time, he won't make it through the night. If I limit him on his drinks, he can usually make it. Sometimes, however, it is difficult to do. By the time DH or I pick him up from after care at pre-school, get home and make dinner and eat, it winds up being anywhere from 6:30-7:30. DS's bed time is usually between 8 and 8:30 (the latter if we are eating to close to his bedtime or it's a Friday night). When it's close to bed time though, I try not to fill his cup up with too much.

Are you suggesting putting one of the mattress protectors on top to protect the top sheet? I can manage to protect the bottom (DS wears underwear and we have waterproof pads that I put over the bottom sheet as well as one under the sheet--easier changing the bed when it's necessary) but often the top sheet and blanket get soaked too. That would be helpful for traveling although I am definitely calling our WDW hotel about the waterproof bed cover and extra set of sheets. Thank you for telling us about that!

I hate to go back to pullups because he is improving with the underwear. The pullups were just so absorbant he didn't even feel when he got wet. He's a young 5. Can they feel when they are wet and wake up with the Goodnights???? I had assumed they were the same as the pullups. I'm also not sure he's big enough for them. We've just hit the 40 lbs. mark and he has a skinny waist. I suspect they'd leak.
