Old Wands vs next gen?

Apologies if this has been asked.
When using the original spell casting wands will they work at all in epic? Or do the epic spell locations require the next gen?

Ohhh I don't know the answer but I'm interested! Google says that the old wands will work, but won't have the fancy haptic (vibration) and light effects that the newer ones have.
