We have 34 points in holding due to no fault of our own (long story - basically we were moving from a one bed to a studio at AKLV concierge and when we went to check out /move rooms we were told that we could probably stay in the one bed - we assumed complimentarily as we didn't have enough points to cover this but guy at desk said let me deal with it and I'll call your room - when he called they said they couldn't comp the one bed, I would have to pay the extra in cash, but in the meantime the studio had been cancelled - hence the 34 points put back in holding - I was a bit cross as I'd had the studio booked for 7 months and definately didn't ask to cancel it and didn't want to pay the extra in cash - anyway the upshot was we stayed in the one bed and they comped the points)

So now we have 34 points in holding - use year Aug - and won't use them. Can we transfer them or rent them out.

Thanks in anticipation.

You can rent them. But given your situation, if I understand it correctly, where they actually comped you the upgrade, I wouldn't complain too loudly if I simply lost 34 points.

So did they cancel the studio, put those points in holding AND upgrade you for free, when the 1 bedroom would have cost more than the 34 points?

To be honest I don't know exactly what they did.

I think they were trying to accommodate the chap sitting at the next desk along who was wanting to cancel his one-bed booking and get a studio. So they told me I would be staying in the one-bed - I told them I didn't have enough points but he said don't worry I'll sort it out with member services. The next thing I knew my studio had been cancelled and because I didn't have enough points for the one-bed I was being asked to make up the difference in cash and use the few remaining points we had. I wasn't really happy about this because I didn't ask to stay in the one-bed, certainly didn't ask to cancel the studio, and didn't want to pay the extra cash or lose my few points. They said they would try to sort it out - next time I asked they said don't worry we won't take your points and you don't have to pay the extra cash - which I was very happy about.

I thought I'd better check my account to make sure about the points and they were back but there were also 34 points in holding. By this time it had taken all morning to sort out and we hadn't been able to leave the hotel not knowing whether we needed to pack or not and I was a little agitated about it so I didn't ask about this thinking it might confuse things even more. The whole incident really wasn't handled very well and I didn't really receive an apology.
