What to do with 1-day hopper passes...

My husband and I are going to WDW for a short, 4 day trip at the end of September. We are staying at Coronado Springs and have already paid for everything, including our 4 day park passes with the hopper add-on. We are not doing the dining plan on this trip so our package is just the room and park passes.

Last weekend, my cousins' football team had a fundraising event with a silent auction. One item was four 1-day hopper passes. Nobody had bid on them so at the last minute, we did - and ended up winning them for $300. Not the greatest deal since we generally travel to Disney with a package and don't really need 1 day passes, but whatever - it was to support their team and I'm sure we can get some value from them.

I was thinking we could call Disney and remove one 4-day pass and then link the 4 individual tickets to one of our accounts. I assume this would delete the FP+ attached to the 4-day pass - and we wouldn't be able to re-add FP+ to the 4 individual passes until 30 days out. This would save some money ($93) and utilize the passes.

Is this correct? Am I missing anything here?

Option 2 would be to just hold on to them and use them on a future trip (they don't expire till 2017), but, again, we would very likely do a package in the future.

By the way, the passes were donated by Disney (they are still attached to the letter Disney responded to their request with.) It is nice to know that DIsney responds to fundraising requests.

Oh man-- is it worth losing your FP+ if you could use them later? Not sure what FP+ you have.

I'm also not sure why you wouldn't be able to add until 30 days out-- I thought that you could make FP+ reservations during your on-site stay as long as you had tickets linked... it would seem like you could link those tickets once the other was removed, so I'm not sure why you'd have to wait? Curious to see the answers to this.

Sell them to somebody else for $325. You make $25 and somebody else gets a deal.

Any chance you ever get to the Orlando area for other reasons, like a work trip? You could hold onto them for adding a day of fun on a non-Disney trip to the area, if that's applicable to your life and routines.

Otherwise I wouldn't mess with your current package and keep them for another time. Perhaps inquire about upgrading this type of ticket to see what value it can apply on a future trip?

We would be losing very good FP+ - we got everything we wanted at 60 days out. If you're right about being able to link the tickets now, maybe I would be able to copy the FP+ we already have over to the new passes?

I can try that without really risking anything, right? The tickets wouldn't be activated till we use them to enter a park, correct?

I could think you would be able to link them and then deduct 1 day from the PHs you have? Or is it after the 45 day thing, you can't change it? package experts! we need some help!

Eh.... I don't know. Honestly with all that I've read on these boards I wouldn't even trust a CM's word that the FP+ reservations wouldn't get erased when you remove the ticket. Others who have done this more should chime in (please don't do anything with just my suggestion!!!) but what about creating a new profile for hubby (maybe with a middle initial or nickname or something), linking those 1-day tickets to that profile, then trying to copy over the FP+ reservations? If you CAN'T get the same FP+ reservations then abandon ship, but if you can then you could call to have OLD hubby profile/ticket deleted and the old FP+ reservations would then go with it?

I THINK the issue is she wants to replace the entire PH that she has, not just one day-- like, use 4 individual tickets rather than the entire PH pass that she has. Which would mean deleting the ticket # from the account.

If we knew anybody who could use them, we'd be happy to sell them for the price we paid. Everybody we know would get a multi-day ticket - or they live in FL and either have an AP or a better deal with the resident discount.

Holding on to them is what I'm leaning toward at the moment. We don't need much of an excuse to plan a trip to Disney! I'm not too familiar with how applyinmg the value to another ticket works. Maybe we could look into that when we are there next month.

Yes, that is exactly my fear! It all seems very risky...I hate the thought of complicating our very simple package, but I would like to use the passes... #magicalworldproblems

Yes, exactly. 1 pass for each day of our 4 day trip. Leave our other 4-day pass as-is.

hmmmm that is also a predicament.....but....as long as you have active tickets, it should work, I mean, I have a 1 day MK ticket in my MDE account, I can make any FP+ res that I want up to 30 days that I don't have a resort stay for.....and they say as long as you have corresponding tickets, you can always make FP's.....hmmmmm

Hahhhaha, well, it might be relatively risk free to try out what I suggested-- just add Hubby 2 to your account and try to use the Copy FP+ feature after linking the 1-day passes to his profile. Maybe then just remove his ticket and keep his profile active for future trips. It might be a benefit, though, to have your husband be a single "profile" for all of your past and future trips and stuff. I don't know the profile features well enough for these kinds of intricacies. If I were in your shoes I would maybe try that out, or I would hold onto them and not risk it.

IDK-- unless it was a room only reservation vs. a package reservation... gosh these are mysterious. It's a stumper.

Ok, did some more research and according to the Disney web site, we can't cancel the ticket that is part of our current package:

"Tickets and packages at Walt Disney World Resort are nontransferable and nonrefundable. You cannot cancel or get a refund for a ticket or package, but in some cases you can use unexpired theme park tickets for a future vacation."

I'm thinking the best solution here is to avoid complications and just hold on to the 1 day tickets for use on a future trip with a room only deal. I wish I knew a family just going for a day - the passes are a pretty awesome value in that scenario!

Thanks everybody!

Another thought- Simply add (link) the one day passes to your current MDE account. Upon arrival, ask guest services to prioritize the passes so that the one-day passes get used first. That shouldn't affect your existing FP+, and would leave the 4-day package hoppers untouched and available for a future trip.

Because you booked a package, you couldn't simply eliminate one set of passes from the reservation as everyone on a package reservation has to have the same ticket and/or dining components. If you haven't reached your paid-in-full date, the only thing you could do would be to cancel your package and re-book as a room-only, then buy one 4-day pass for one person and use the donated tickets for the other person. I guess it's possible that you could link the donated tickets plus a purchased 4-day pass to your MDE account prior to canceling the package to see if you can save the FP+ passes you made, but I personally wouldn't risk it. I think the easiest thing to do would be to keep the package you have and save the tickets for another trip. Next time, I would make a room-only, purchase a pass for one of you and link both that pass and the donated tickets into MDE so you can still make your FP+ at 60 days out.

Wish someone had a fundraiser with that here! We think we are going for just a day in December or January!!

That's an interesting idea. I would like to use the 1-day passes on this trip so I don't forget about them - and also because we don't usually take 4 day trips. If I saved the 4-day package pass, would I be able to turn it into a 7 day pass as part of a package in the future? Would we just go to Guest Services before entering the park to prioritize the passes? Or is that something we could do at the resort?

I think we will probably just save them for a room-only trip in the future, but it's good to know our options!
