Oh great and wise Dis-sers,

I seek your help/advice/allocation of jelly babies.

We are going to WDW in October and while we are there my other half hits his 40th (I shall be running in the opposite direction to make sure that I don't hit mine later in the year - I'm too young to be 40). For his birthday prize I am considering 2 trips and would like the benefit of your opinions and knowledge:

(1) Flying down to Miami - we've never been and it could be a hoot BUT, in my ignorance, I wonder if this is a hurricane hotspot? I know it's towards the end of the season but I have a knack of being able to attract bad weather. Am I mad and any potenntial windy weather shys away from the elegant fleshpots of South Beach? And what should we do if we're there for 1 or 2 nights?

(2) Flying up to New York (so good they named it once). Know and love NY and wonder if it's worth spending 5 hours on a plane if we just go for 1 night.

Exedia do some quite good deals.

Whadda ya thiink?

I think it sounds like a great plan, I wouldn't worry too much about the weather, it does seem to be september that has hit it hardest but maybe AlanUK or any of the other storm watchers has some better advice for you. Personally I love NYC and would definately want to add it in, but I'd go for longer than 1 night, even a 'short' plane trip can be delayed and it would cut into valuable NY time

p.s. get your butt back over to Community and offer yourself up on 'Ask Me Anything' :rotfl:

Thank you very much for this Carol.

You are a cheeky girl, you are a cheeky girl, don't touch me there.

I may offer myself up for questions early next week - if you so desire. I assume the Ask me Anything thread is because you are aware of my extreme psychic abilities.

Here is a prediction for you: the lottery this week will be won by a man....or a woman...aged between 18...and death.

When you see the results you'll be spooked by my predictions

Rob, first of all, whichever you decide, I'd go for 2 nights.

I can't see the point of flying from Orlando to Miami. By the time you've checked in, waited around for your flight and got up and down, you could have driven. And MIA is a hell-hole. The Florida Turnpike is a quick and easy route. Or don't either of you drive?

If you go for NYC, you really need to allocate a whole day to travel each way. If you're going to take two days out of a trip for flying, surely you would want to have 2 days to spend at your destination? To answer your question as posed - no, I don't think it's worth it for one night.

I think you'd be really unlucky to find yourself in the middle of a hurricane in Miami in October. I can see you in South Beach. We stayed at Hotel Victor which is within walking distance of all the beach-front nightspots and restaurants (being in a beach-front location itself). Miami is expensive, but I thought Hotel Victor was reasonably priced amongst South Beach boutique hotels.

Dearest Darling Diva,

thank you.

No, neither of us drive. I'm probably just being daft on the one night thing - we've paid a lot for our WDW holiday but he's only 40 once. (that is right isn't it. I mean, can I be 39, say, 4 times?)

I don't want to put a damper on a trip to Miami as I love the place, but we got caught in a hurricane 2 years ago. The place was deserted, and everywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE) closed at 6 p.m. due to a curfew.
People weren't allowed out on the streets or they would have been arrested !!

But saying that we have been twice before and I really love the place. Weather permitting the beaches are amazing and I love the Art Deco area.
Everything about the place is "awesome" as the Americans say !!

We are thinking of flying up to New York from Orlando next Easter for 3 nights, it's only a 2 1/2 hour flight though.
Unless you are going a different route ;)

He's planning on coming back as well, Johnny. When I was at school, 2 1/2 + 2 1/2 was 5. ;)

Why not hire a limo (with driver of course ;) ) to take you both to Miami. Stay the night. Get another limo back the next day. :cloud9: I *think* it's about a 4 hour trip but in a fancy limo that could be fine! When you add up the time at the airport, checking in, waiting on the plane, getting to and from MCO and to and from your NY hotel and the time in the air 4 hours will be nothing!! I love New York and we did the NY to Orlando flight twice but as Deb said, you'd need to allow most of a day to get there and back again. Of course I have no idea how much a limo costs :lmao: but would it be more than the cost of 2 flights + taxi fare to airport and back + taxi/shuttle in NY?! Happy planning!

 Um, ok. I just did a very quick check and with HappyLimo.com http://www.happylimo.com/orlando_limousine_rates.html a return trip Orlando (airport) to Miami in a Lincoln Stretch Limo is 1250 dollars. Okaaaaaaaay! You could possibly just buy him a car instead!!! :rotfl2: But it's 'only' 780 dollars in a Sedan. I'll go away now. :tiptoe:

ah yes, didn't think of that, either it was early in the morning or I am hopeless at Maths............... or both

As it's a special birthday I'd go to New York. I don't think you can beat it for a good night out :thumbsup2

But the Expedia website says the flight goes at 0735 and lands at 1212. Oh hang on, there's a connection in Washington. But there's a direct flight that leaves earlier and does, indeed, take 2 1/2 hrs.

Thank you wise Dis-sers - I'd have booked and then got annoyed.

In my defence other half said to me yesterday, "Of course the flights 5 hours, Florida and New York are on different coasts". It took a lot of arguement and a look at a map to convince him they are on the same coast!
