What to do on check in day and check out day?

For check in day I was thinking of either relaxing at hotel, check things out, go to downtown disney or dinner at chef mickey's.

some info first.

I am celebrating my 10th anniversary with DH and bringing the kids who are 8 and 5. Our flight arrives at 1:15pm and I'm thinking of taking a town car instead of using DME.

We arrive Sat Dec 12 and leave Sun dec 20th.

On check out day. My flights going back leaves at 6:15pm and again we may take a town car instead of DME.

I'm hoping to get a late check out but I'm not sure if that will happen or not.
We did last time but only because I asked our actual Mousekeeper because the front desk for very non committal.

For check out I was thinking of doing a breakfast character meal Ohana's but I'm not sure what a good reservation time would be? Or we may just pack and relax by the pool. We could probably do both but I don't want to be too stressed on check out day. KWIM.

Thoughts would be great. Thanks for any advice, opinions

If your flight comes in at 1:something in the afternoon you would have plenty of time to get to one of the parks to see the fireworks. It is a great way to start a trip. We also like to start at DTD on the first day. Whatever you choose, relax and enjoy....you are at Disney World!

to Disney and arrive mid afternoon. We usually go to DTD for some early shopping and dinner. We leave earlier than you do on departure day. We usually have breakfast at CM and do our final shopping at DTD.

I like the idea of the fireworks, You could get an ADR for Ohana or, if you want to go a little upscale, at Narcoossee's and watch from the beach.

I have also considered going to HDDR the first night. It is sort of out of the way from the parks so I thought taking the time that first night wouldn't impact our touring plans.

I would recommend on your check out day that you make your ADR early. Our flight was scheduled to leave Orlando at 5:20 and now has been moved up 2 hours. Because of that, I had to change my ADR in order for us to us ME to get back to the airport.

Good luck with your decision. We are still trying to figure out what to do the first day --MK or DTD--and we leave in 8 days!!!.

If you do not plan to use park tickets on the first day I would go to one of the other resorts for a nice dinner. You can tour a resort you havent seen.

We like to goto Ohana and after dinner watch Wishes either from the restaurant or down on the beach.

Set up your room and get a good nights sleep. Be at the park before it opens. Do all your favs by noon!

Everything is so pretty at Christmas!

We don't want to waste a park day but watching the fireworks sounds like a great idea.
Can you see the fire works from the contempory (spelling)resort and where?

I'm going to try and get a later dinner reservation at chef mickey's and hope to see the fireworks from the resort after dinner than back to riverside to sleep.

Depends on what time we get to our resort I may try and get some shopping done at DTD. Really depends on how tired we are.

I was thinking about CM for an early breakfast or Ohana's on departure day but not sure what else. I don't know how rushed it would be for shopping at DTD.

Sorry I don't know what HDDR means.

On our first day we are going to doing some resort hopping, ending at Fort Wilderness, go canoeing, pony ride, do the chip'n'dale singalong and make smores and then either watch the movie there or head back to our resort.
Not your typical Disney World things, but it will be relaxing things after a full morning of travelling.

What time would you suggest a good breakfast reservation would be for a last day?
I don't want to get up too early on my last day but I dont' want to be rushed either.

Thankfully I still have a little time but I need to make my ADR next month!

Hopefully you can decide soon. I did MK my first day last time and we didnt' get to the park until 3 and I had reservations at CP for 5 so I felt we didn't get much done but the look on my son's face when he saw the castle for the first time was truly special that it really made it worth it. We won't be going to the park on the day we check in so dinner and a tour sounds good.

I haven't been at christmas before so I'm looking forward to going. It will be nice to see all the decorations.

I forgot about the chip and dale sing a long. What time does it start? Now I'm not sure what to do. LOL

I didn't get to do this last time so I really want to do this but we may save it for another non park day. Is the sing a long every night?

I hear people say they wont waste a days ticket on an arrival or departure date... But if you arrive around noon or depart in the evening AND already have a 4+ day ticket, then adding an extra day is about $12.
Um...that sounds reasonable to me!
EP or MK tend to make better arrival day parks since they are open later.
AK or DHS may make more sense on a Departure date.

We like to go for short 4 day trips, and what my mom and I did last time (and what my dad and I are doing this time... ) We're catching the first flight out that morning, the flight arrives at 10:30 am, and after Check-in, going straight to Epcot.

Our last day, we're going to AK and catching the last flight out that night since AK closes earlier than the other parks.

It's a hectic trip, but we love it!

you have a point and I actually aready added a day. I went from 5 to 6, I might see what adding one more would do. I would still rather not go to a park on check out day but check in day I will see. My check in day is Sat Dec 12 so it would depend on if the christmas party was going on that night or not. If it isn't on I may see about having dinner at the castle. Now you have me thinking ! LOL My flight gets in around 1 so I probably wouldn't be at my hotel till 3 getting me at the park by 4. Sound about right?
Not sure though I was going to do the castle OOP. Not sure if 2 table credits are worth it?

Anyone can tour the resorts, so I'm assuming anyone can view the Wishes from the beach at the Poly. I'm a newbie, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can go down to the beach and enjoy wishes even if you don't have dinner or stay there. It's nice to be able to see what the other resorts have to offer.
