Hi,
We were in Epcot last December and never saw anything fun to do in World Showcase. I heard of things after the fact, so I'd like to know what i should do while there this September?? We'll be there 9/17-24th.
Thanks
Karen

Do you have kids?

If you do, each country has the Kidcot Fun Stops which are awesome for kids!!! :thumbsup2 The kids make a mask on a stick, and then go from country to country to get it stamped and add a paper icon (so to say) that dangle from the mask. My girls love it!!!!

Do you like to shop?

There are a lot of great shops in each of the countries. I love to go and look around at the different things from each country. In Japan, you can pick an oyster and then get the pearl inside. You can either take the pearl or pay to have them set it in some jewelry.

I'm not sure of much else to do in each country because we haven't done much ourselves :sad2: With small kids, we just stick to what I mentioned. I'm looking forward to the day when I can do the World Showcase with just my DH and I so I can really experience each country one by one :teeth:

There is so much to do at EPCOT world showcase

If you have kids Kidcot is a must. My son did it when he was 3 and when he was 6, both times loved it. If no kids you can do a lot of other thinks.

How about watching all the movies of those countries represented in the showcase. Get into the shops and find some specific items of the countries, and if the park and shops are not to busy have a chat with the CM’s about their countries…

Check out the show list. You have Chinese acrobats, Japanese Drums, In Japan they make animals from candy (I think it was), France has painters and mime players and there is so much more. Don’t forget, Disney is not all about rides, there is more….

I can be in EPCOT for hours and not even thinking about doing a ride… I could easily walk there the whole day without doing any thrill rides. And I am a real thrill ride junky…

Great minds think alike...I was gonna say DRINK :drinking1

I've always wanted to "drink around the world"...but I only make it to 2 or 3 "countries" before getting too loopy to go on! hahahah

My DD5 loves the lady who makes candy animals in the Japan pavilion. That's always a must do.
The kids also like MoRockin' and the belly dancer in Morrocco.
China has acrobats.
DD always wants the mask and is totally into stopping and coloring at every country...although I must admit the waiting gets a bit tiresome for me.
:artist: :moped: :rockband:

I have children and will be going in October. The masks sounds great! Where do you get the mask to begin the Kidcot process or does each country have the 'starter' mask?

The characters/autographs, kidstops, live entertainment, and passports kept our kids and us happy the entire time. Actually it was hard to fit it all in! :)

Its funny because I love World Show Case however when I think about it there really isn't anything I do there. I guess I just like to walk around and look at things. I enjoy looking through the different shops. I never buy anything there but I love to browse.

I do enjoy looking for Characters. Quite often I find character in little nooks here and there in the countries. Once I ducked into a little room in the back of Morocco to get out of way of people so I could check the map. There was nothing in the room but a bench and a door. All of the sudden Jasmine walks through the door and sat down. DD and I were so excited (O.K. mainly me!!) We had Jasmine to ourselves for quite a while before other guest noticed her there. She spent a long time talking to Dd and teaching her to hold up 2 fingers for her birthday. :goodvibes :cloud9:

One thing I have to do there is buy a pastery in France......YUM!!!

go on all of the rides, kidspots are fun for kids, eat and def. watch some of the shows like the showcase players (our favorite thing) and also the british invasion. OMG and i almost fogot the best thing to do lol you should def. see Off Kilter!!!! we have all of their cds.

ps: these things can be family things but sometimes if me and my brother don't really want to do one of these things once again we will plan with my mom and dad to go do something else during the show and then afterwards we will call her on the walki-talki and meet up, so just incase you really like something and really want to see it you can plan this out

World Showcase is just that....a showcase. Each country gives you a look at their culture. The buildings represent the different styles you may see in that country. The landscaping showcases that country's look. The food represent a few of the things a person would have in that country. The shops sell things that are from that country. The entertainment is representative of what that country has to offer.

Epcot is a more "subtle" and "sophisticated" park than the others. Less emphasis on "rides" and more emphasis on experiences.

Check out all the entertainment! My favorites are the comedy group in the UK, think Monty Python. It's also interactive so be careful or you may find yourself a part of the show. American Vybe and Voices of Liberty at the American pavilion are a must for me. They are excellent! The candy Lady in Japan is so much fun to watch even if you don't get a candy.

Shopping - of course! I love Morocco for unusual items. Follow the shops back in, this pavilion has lots of hidden areas. You can also take a tour of Morocco. Japan is loved by the kids and myself. DS loves the Pokemon cards, DD always finds something pretty, and I fell in love with the purses.

Eat around the world. We can never make it all the way around eating in one day since we get so full. Lots of great treats!

There are a couple of boat rides in WS - one inside Mexico and another inside Norway. They aren't major rides - but they are a nice way to enjoy the flavor of the country.

The U.S. has an audioanimatronic show about the history of the U.S.

Otherwise, the performers at each nation are very enjoyable. There are some good bands, the acrobats are cool, and we really enjoy the performers in, um, France I think? The guys who balance on the chairs. They are in the background of my photo of my siggie.

You can get the mask in any country you start in. It is really fun for the kids. Just ask any CM where the kidcot station is in each country. You can also buy a "passport" (@$10) that comes with stickers and a button. Then each country will smapl the passport and write something in their native language. Depending on your kids ages, this may be fun too. BTW the masks and coloring and attaching the paper icon are totally free if you don't want to spend anything. If the get all the icons, tell the CM at the last country, they get a little certificate (a picture-nothing personalized)

As other have said, enjoy the performers, my girls loved the acrobats in China, the street performers in Italy & UK and the music in UK and OffKilter in Canada. HAVE FUN!

Where do you see the performers?? We were there at Christmas time and we never saw one performer at night. We spent the daylight hours on the rides. Should we visit the showcase during the daytime??

I absolutely LOVE the WS! I have since I was a teenager.. I love the shops and trying some snacks at each country.. The Mexico and Norway ride are fun..Watching all the entertainment is fun..

This is Tribus121's wife. We have a four year old daughter and I think that she would love the mask thing. Not sure about the passport thing. Now, is that passport really fun or what?

I think for her age, it is probably not worth it (even though it is only $10). They will still stamp your mask handle with the country stamp. My DD6 liked the passport last year because she wanted to know what everyone wrote to her but my DD3 didn't really care too much! I would just go for the mask at her age.

BTW, you may want to set a limit on how much time she can color at the station. It can take a LONG time, especiatlly if they are little creative ones. We just let them do a little in each country...it seemed to work!

HAVE FUN!

We just returned from WDW 6/18.

There are performers in each country that do various acts in the streets (singers, comedians, acrobats, etc.) They appear at various times throughout the day and evening and do their things right in the walkways (usually, but sometimes in some of the buildings if the weather is bad). I think they want it to seem random and spontanious, as if the people of the "village" are just doing their everyday routines.

However, there IS a very specific schedule of entertainers, and that is the key to WS in my opinion. It is not printed on the big, colorful EPCOT map they pass out at the entrance and the shops. It is a white piece of heavy paper with one color writing on it, like blue. It lists every street performer and spontaneous show in each country and the times. The schedules are different almost everyday, so be sure you have a current one.

My favorite is the Chinese acrobats.

Hope that helps. karen
