What to do in Houston

I checked out the Boardwalk Inn in Kemah. It looks likes the Boardwalk Inn at WDW. Unfortunately its also priced like the Boardwalk Inn at WDW. It does look like a fun place though.

Thre is a Holiday Inn that is walking distance to the Boarwalk and it's much more reasonable. We usually stay there instead of on the Boardwalk itself. The prices are crazy for that hotel!

Yep & yep. There's a Holiday Inn right by the boardwalk that isn't as much. Or I don't think it is. Right at the parking lot is a good burger shack called Hubcaps. Great burgers. Fab fries. Excellent beer selection.

Beat me to it! If you haven't had Hubcaps, it's a good. Across the big bridge right there is Tookies in Seabrook. Tookies is good burgers, too.

You can take the 102 bus from Terminal C to the Downtown Transit Center. Go out door C-106 from baggage claim, walk across all lanes of the pickup area and you'll see the shelter. It'll take you to the Downtown Transit center. From there you can pick up the light rail to the museum district. The 102 is like a commuter/greyhound bus.

The IAH Marriott has been undergoing a major renovation so some of the facilities might not be fully available. Their restaurant (CK's) has amazing views of the airport.

My only caution on this is that I personally do not feel comfortable taking buses in Houston. And I feel very comfortable taking buses in Nassau where I think many people do not. In Houston there is almost always a homeless person on the bus doing something strange.

Houston has very good Mexican restaurants. It's been awhile since I visited Houston, but the cultural district is very nice and there are some great museums in that area. The Rice University campus is in this area and is beautiful.

Thanks for the tip on Hubcaps. We have that Holiday Inn for the night before our March (Royal Caribbean) cruise. To the OP, is it possible to change your plans or is it too late? I have done one way rentals in Florida to the port and those are cheap, but not sure about Houston-Galveston. It might be worth looking into getting a one-way rental and then staying either in Galveston or Kemah. I think you would have more fun and could possibly save money, especially if looking at using a taxi for your day in Houston.

You don't have a very favorable view of Houston do ya? :-p

As a resident in Houston now for 23 years I'd have to agree with most of the points here. Visiting Houston without a car, especially from IAH, is not very feasible. If you can stay downtown somewhere or near the med center, your options open up quite a bit with the rail service. We have a lot of neat things to see and do as recommended by many in the thread, it's just all spread out. We're a commuter town where most people live in the suburbs and drive into town for work.

I disagree with you. I also noted it's a commuter/Greyhound type bus which are the nicest buses in Metro's fleet. For the most part, Metro's buses are all pretty nice.

I've taken the 102 from IAH to downtown many times and it's mostly people that work at the airport and nobody bothers anyone.
