What to do at Nassau? Not one to sit on beach all day!!

My DH and I are sailing 10/3/02 for a 3 day cruise. What should we do at Nassau? I burn to bad to sit on the beach all day. What is a good alternative?

If you are not a beach person, you might be interested in one of the shore excursions such as the historical tour or the glass bottom boat.
If you prefer to do something on your own, there is plenty of shopping within walking distance of the ship. It you prefer other activities, I recommend stopping in at the tourism office, which as lots of info. on some great options (it's where we found out about the horseback riding). Also, a horse and carriage ride is a nice way to see some of the historical sites around downtown Nassau. They, too, are within walking distance...be sure to negotiate the price! And I have heard of people hiring taxi drivers to give them private tours, although I have never done this personally. I plan to someday, but we usually end up staying on the ship and pretending it's a day at sea. You might like that option too...lots of food, activities, movies. etc.

There are a lot of fun things to do in Nassau. If you like Dolphins, there is a boat that leaves from Paradise Island that takes you to the Blue Lagoon where you can either swim with the dolphins or do a shallow water encounter. It's the home of Flipper from the new movie. The swim is more expensive and hard to get a reservation. We has a ressie for the encounter but I had already done it and really wanted to do the swim. The grand finale is getting a foot push from the dolphin. It was AWESOME! It was our honeymoon and I really wanted to surprise my husband. The day of our ressies, I called in the morning and they had a cancellation. I was so happy. Worth every penny. Dolphin Swims

If you are not into that kind of adventure, try a tour of the Atlantis. I have never done the tour but I heard it was great. My best friend stayed there and said it was incredible. I think the tour is about $25-$35 but not positive. II have never done it but I have always wanted to. I know you can book both tours from the ship....but if you want the Dolphin Swim definitely book it on your own.

There are also a bunch of things to do in town on Bay Street. The original Straw Market had a fire...but there is a substitute location. They had some nice souvenirs but I cannot stand the bargaining game. IF I hear, "hey pretty lady" one more time...

Cable beach is also beautiful but if you are not into sitting on the beach all day...try taking the #10A bus for a 30-45 minute loop around the inner parts of the island. The bus then loops back to Bay Street via the shoreline of Cable Beach. The first part of the ride takes you to where most of the locals live...then loops back down to where the rich and famous live and where the hotels are. Bus 10 only goes to Cable Beach...so definitely look for the 10A. Each ride is $1 and it's fun to ride on the bus with the locals rather than a tour bus.

If you like to gamble, both the Atlantis and the Marriot have a casino. I am sure there are others as well.

If this does not satisfy you...call DCL and ask them to send you a list of their shore excursions. Then sent us one when we booked and there was plenty to do.
