June 21st Disney Fantasy sailing from Rome - General strike in Italy on June 20

USB - a midsize, but fairly relatively militant union in Italy has announced a general strike in Italy on June 20th, followed by a national demonstration in Rome on June 21st. For those on the June 21st Disney Fantasy sailing, this could impact airport arrivals, some train operations, local transit, taxis and non-tourism related public and private sectors represented by that union. The demonstration in Rome could also create traffic backlog on the 21st, or temporarily prevent access to main transportation hub. Note that the Leonardo Da Vinci express (train shuttle between Rome Airport and Central Rome) is guaranteed, and if needed could be operated using buses.

Now, this is more than one month in advance, so things can change - but that one-two punch combo in June is a bit the M.O. of that union.

All that to say, if you are on that Disney Fantasy sailing , stay informed and check for any travel waivers that could become available due to the strike. It is too early to take action yet, and right now, Italy is focused on the inauguration of Pope Leo and... a strike the following week.

There isn't much official information yet, other than the notice on the Ministero delle infrastrutture e dei trasporti which lists all upcoming and declared strikes that could impact the transportation sector.

It's great that it is announced this far in advance! Easy to make other arrangements. I didn't see the hours for the strike? (I'm not going to be in Italy, so I haven't looked it up) You can always check the trenitalia website (or other transport or locations you are visiting) to see if anything you are involved in will be affected. As mentioned, the Leonardo Express is one of the guaranteed trains, so any others will have to be checked against the official "guaranteed train" list, which was SUPER hard to find a month in advance for me last time, especially when it was different sectors overlapping.

Ugh we are getting off the Fantasy on the 21st and taking a train to Venice.. Will have to look into this

My son was just in Italy and was impacted by the threat of an operator strike. They lost a whole day just sitting on a train in the middle of nowhere. Very stressful situation.

We are getting off the Fantasy on the 21st and have booked a Disney transfer to the airport. Does anyone know if Disney transfers will be affected? I realize the strike is on the 20th, but will the general demonstrations on the 21st reach as far as the port or the airport?

I just looked and there are 3 different national ones on the 20th, public and private, looks like trains, roads (? like what will strike there? toll workers?) ports, no idea what else....I don't see one listed for the 21st? Did you see any listed for the 21st?

I was mistaken, it looks like the strike is for 24 hours starting on the 19th at 9:00PM local to the 20th at the same time. Sorry for the confusion.
