Ok these boards helped make me the WDW packing pro that I am today. Thank you very much.

Now what tips to you have on what to bring to HHI? Its our first trip.....

Also, we were going to bring our bikes, but now we're not so sure, because my parents who are comming wont have bikes and we might spend a few days overnight on the way home.....to bring or not to bring, that is the other question.

You can rent bikes from any number of HHI locations, including the DVC resort. They all have weekly rates that very. You might want to bring beach chairs and umbrella, as renting from the lifeguard (Not Disney's but South Carolina's) the chairs and umbrella can be expensive. You really don't need to bring anything but your normal travel needs. You can rent anything you need on the Island. It just might cost a little more. There is a wal-mart nearby if you want to get some chairs.

We justy got back last week from a week at HHI. I must say I packed too heavy. If you have a washer/dryer in your room, then you can pack much lighter. I probably wore half of what I brought down. Also, if you prefer, bring fitted sheets for your beds. The flats kept pulling off the corners, so I guess that is personal preference.

You might also want to bring more "kitchen stuff" than usual. We (and, I think, a lot of others!) tend to cook in the villa much more than we do at WDW!

I for one would recommend bringing your bikes if you have a carrier. I have been to HHI several times (never to DVC HHI) and have rented bikes many times. The bikes are usually pretty beat up, as the salt evidently rusts them pretty quickly. We found that if we brought our own bikes, they were much more comfortable and we used them alot more. There are great paths to ride on all over the island, especially in Palmetto Dunes and in Sea Pines. If all your wanting to do is ride on the beach, then maybe renting is the way to go.

We'll be at DVC HHI the first week of August, and we'll be bringing our bikes!

When I saw the title of this post I couldn't help but answer.

Only my answer would be...

"bring ME"! :p

::yes::

Bumping this up in hopes of getting more responses, because DH and I are planning our first HH trip next fall ('05).

Any more good suggestions out there???

Next time we will bring binoculars. They supply them for some of the nature activities, but with all the wildlife in the marsh there were times I wish I had brought my own binoculars.

We are quite casually and seem to bring less and less each year.

We basically live at the beach and pool and tend to live in swimwear and t-shirts.

Adults get away with one decent pair of shorts and a polo or two at most. We stopped bringing dress slacks/skirts or dress shoes long ago. There is an abundance of casual restaurants.

Disney supplies all the towels you need.

We bring our beach chairs and umbrellas, renting is expensive and you sit in the line of chairs at the top of the beach is, not whereever you want. Also, sun can be brutal so a good hat is a must.

We tend to cook in our rooms and make a stop at the PigglyWiggly on day 1. We can live out of the microwave and toaster with a few take out meals thrown in.

Bikes aren't a bad idea and riding on the beach in the morning is nice, if you don't mind getting the sand and saltwater in your gears.

I like the idea of bringing your own fitted sheets. I often lament the "short sheet" syndrome when the flats pull away from the corners.

Overall, our advice is to pack lightly. Besides, what's a vacation without a trip to WalMart for all the stuff you forgot?

Enjoy...

My list from my Disney notebook:

Napkins (they don't provide these)
Air Freshener
Extra dish towels
Saran Wrap
Night lights
Swim Suit (forgot it once)
Hats
Sweat Shirts
Island Car Wash Punch Card

Ok, Im going to add my own find...hot off the store shelves.

I was at costco this morning and found these awesome beach chairs. They have a pillow, cup holder, sholder straps to wear like a backpack, AND a big back pocket to carry all your stuff in. They were like $18 and this man said he saw them at the beach for $40. He said he used them and they were great.

Are you sure we wont need towels?

6 trips (and counting), brought them in the first trip, never used them, haven't brought them since.

Going 8/4-8/12 with 2 daughters 8 and 11. Plan on taking bikes, cooler (for the beach), sand castle stuff, letterboxing stuff as there are several in the area. (never done it? If you like treasure hunts, hiking, using a compass, maps, etc. then check out www.letterboxing.org). Also beach chairs.

I also vote FOR bringing beach towels. We use them at the pool (they cover the chaise lounge better) and the pool towels are just too small to take down to the beach.

But then again, you would swear that we're moving in permanently when we come to HH!

(And we have to load it all back in the car tomorrow morning to go back to Atlanta. :( )
