What to avoid at Aldi?

We use these all the time and have never had that issue. My whole family loves them.

The Casa Mamita ones? The were like little rubber bands for us. I prefer Mission Brand. I want nice and soft not rubbery & gooey.
We love their Salsa and I see others don't so it's all about preference.

Aldi's cornbread is very dry to me. I've used many of their baking mixes (cake, brownies) with no problems but I'll stick with Jiffy for cornbread.

We like the salsa. Of course we add hot sauce to any salsa so can't testify to how hot or not it is.

I have a recipe to make cornbread from scratch. If you didn't know better it tastes just like Jiffy. I got fed up, whenever I would go to buy it they were out. Found this recipe and never looked back. It makes a large 11x13 pan.

As for the salsa, I've got three boys. They eat everything and anything, they just won't touch it. The youngest convinced me into getting it to try. They love just about everything from the store that we've gotten. Maybe I'll try doctoring it up and seeing if they like it better that way.

It is a crap shoot on the veggies.

Absolutely hate the window cleaner. It just streaks. I use it for wiping off the bathroom counters.

I don't like any of the cleaning products, they just don't work for me.

Do you mean fresh or canned veggies?

canned ones. I'm limited in what I can buy. They usually eat corn or peas. I don't remember which one we had an issue with but it just wasn't "right." Hubby even commented on it.

This is a funny thread! We really only buy fresh produce at Aldi, but I have gotten the chicken nuggets (safari shapes?) and dd refused to eat them. After looking at the packaging I noticed that they have a lot of fillers (not straight chicken) unlike the Purdue Nuggets that she usually eats. Then again she'll eat McD's nuggets with no complaints!

I think taste is a matter of personal preference and as we're seeing can vary a lot from person to person!

Ooh, good to know about the nuggets. I'll be switching back to my previous brand. I'm usually careful about reading labels--ah well.

I did think of another one--The vanilla extract was weak and bland. I use it fairly frequently and picked up a bottle out of convenience. Not bad, just not recommended. Next time I'll make my own with fresh vanilla beans that can be bought in bulk on Amazon.

I noticed that they are going to have whole ducks for $12 and Boneless Leg of Lamb roasts for $5 lb this coming week. I'm pretty darned excited to see how those are...

The only thing we really haven't liked is their medium salsa....but we like the mild salsa. Go figure, lol.

I rarely buy the meat there, but that is because I can typically get a better deal by waiting for the sales at my local grocery store, and stocking up my freezer.

I got the dishwasher gel once. NEVER AGAIN!! It gunked up my dishwasher, left spots on all the dishes, and it took SEVERAL rounds of dishwasher cleaning agents to get it back to normal!

I use this alot, but I do a monthly vinegar rince cycle to clean the unit. I also use the equivelant to DAWN. But, if I am getting an order at SAMs, I get the triple pack of DAWN for just about $6 for very large size.

I did not like the hotdogs at all. I will stock up at SAMs, the 3 or 4 pack of Oscar Myer is the best non sale price I have found.

Center cut bacon was very thin. Same thing, the bundle pack of Oscar Myer at SAMs a better buy and quality.

Even the cat litter is not bad, I spmetimes mix it with my more expensive brand, But it clups really well. I sprikle some baking soda in it. Also from SAMs just over $3.

I LOVE the $5.99 LARGE Pizza's. the extra cheese and pepperoni are Fav's.

I like the canned corn, but found the canned goods this week at Wegmans for .39 cents a can.

I like Aldi hamburger. It is vaccum packed, great color, and does not turn if not used that day or next. Long shelf life date.

Aldi doesn't have canned no sugar fruit do they? It seems I have only seen ones with syrup.

We don't care for their pre-made desserts as they tend to be high in saturated fats....the taste is good, but the quality doesn't seem to be (health wise).

I don't buy coffee, tea, toiletries, or cleaning products there so I can't comment on those.

I get snack foods, produce, and some canned goods, like refried beans. I haven't tried their milk, butter, or yogurt.....their milk runs a bit high priced as I can get it at Costco for 30% less down the street.

Everything has been ok for us so far. I don't like the following things:

Canned corn - too many cob and husk pieces in it.

Aldi's version of Goober (pb & j mixed together in a jar) Tried it and it just has a funny smell to it.

Fit and Active Plain Yougurt - barf!

I have not tried the lobster, but I have a friend who said they were good. And we do like the salsa and flour tortillas. :)

The dry cat food. My cats would not eat it and all and they usually eat anything.

The Fit & Lite fruit cocktail is in juice. It isn't bad--has a lot of grapes, which is kind of odd texture wise, but not bad by any means.

I didn't like the tea bags. They were flavorless. We used to like the instant mashed potatoes, but lately they have been coming out pasty so the kids won't eat them. The hotdogs are ok but not great. The cheese whiz stuff was nasty. I like the brownie mix, but add a little less oil and replace with water. I stay away from all their canned veggies and premium soups. The regular condensed soups are ok. I do buy their Healthy canned fruit. It tastes very fresh. Their tin foil is thin but it works. Same with their napkins and other paper products. I think their cleaning products are too watered down to be effective.

The only "I'll never buy it there again and will go out of my way to get it somewhere else" item at Aldi is their Beaumont coffee that comes in the can with the plastic lid. We usually buy Folger's and Maxwell House, so we're certainly not picky (LOL!), but that coffee from Aldi is downright disgusting. We're drinking the Beaumont French Roast right now that comes in the smaller bag and that's pretty good. Just stay away from the really cheap stuff. :rotfl:

Will not buy their spagetti sauce or meat.

I use to shop there all the time to fill in but now it is months sometimes before I get in. Mainly because things are not really all that cheap at our Aldis. I can get better deals at Walmart or local Giant store. I shop the sales and can get brand name items cheaper than Aldis brand.

Nothing till you try it... I like some things but something i would never buy again..like i dont like their meets, but i love most of the baking and crackers there...

we've had great shopping experiences at aldi. the only thing i got there that wasn't good was their toaster pastries. just like kellogg's pop tarts, these are 2 to a package, but the aldi's brand was all stuck together, and of course, when you attempt to pull them apart, they break. each pack in the box was like that.

we shop frequently at Aldi. I will second the "ick" on the pop tarts! They were sort of like card board with frosting on them. I rarely buy pop tarts but maybe two or three times a year I get them as a treat for the kids. Normally they love them but I threw out most of the Aldi ones.

Didn't care for their pudding or canned cake frosting either.

We use the dish detergent with no problems and used to use the Tandil laundry detergent and their fabric softner but lately the laundry stuff hasn't been up to par. My older sons are getting to that smelly age and I found that our clothes aren't smelling too good anymore. Not sure if it is the detergent or fabric softner that is the problem. I just used coupons and bought name brand stuff at WalMart and the problem went away.

The only truly gross thing I've bought there was the canned chicken and dumplings. I got a few cans to have on hand to throw together in a hurry and everyone spit them out, we're not picky at all here, it was really bad.
