What to avoid at Aldi?

I love there pre cooked ribs.Just hate the BBQ sauce on them.So I rinse that offand use my own.
But there Dirty Rice taste like a box of Salt.My husband loves saltand he said that is way to salty.

The worst things I've ever tried there were the frozen hamburgers and those sausages with the cheese inside (both put in the cart by my husband, lol). All I can say is yuck! I almost never buy cookies, snacks, chips, etc there b/c most of them have trans fat in them. Actually, I never walk out of there w/o checking the labels on everything b/c so much of it has trans fat (hence why it is cheaper). But I do buy produce there, milk, eggs, some of the Lite and Fit stuff, cheese, some lunch meat... and I like the salsa that comes in the dairy case. I just stopped yesterday and got a big bag of fresh veggies and cheese for under $20. The pineapple was only .99

I know this doesn't really belong in this thread, but if you have a Trader Joe's near you, check it out. Prices are almost as cheap as Aldi and most the products are very high quality. Most products have no additives, their organics are way cheaper than the regular grocery store.

i wish we had trader joe's! our aldi just opened about 1 1/2 years ago, so maybe there's hope.

I'm not a coffee snob by any means but Aldi's coffee was the only container I've ever gotten rid of without using the whole can. I just couldn't get it down. Is it possible for coffee to taste greasy??? ;) Yuck!

Our closest trader joes is 2 1/2 hrs. away. I usually go there once every couple of months (and Ikea and Whole Foods in the same stop). I wish we had one here, especially when we're in the season without our CSA share.

It seems that their business model will only allow a store to be opened in a city if they think the economy could support two stores. My town doesn't qualify, even though there are 5 similarly sized towns within an hour's drive.

They only thing I have ever tasted from Aldis is the hot dogs...they were gross. A PTA mom insisted on buyig them from Aldis for a spring party at our school. Insisted they were good...etc. The other moms kind of disagreed, but let it go. Well, they were bad. Teachers complained, kids complained, parents complained. The sad thing is that we had the money to get any name brand hot dog at another grocery store. She just insisted on Aldi's. Made the PTA look bad. The next year the teachers requested pizza. I wonder why???

The Casa Mamita ones? The were like little rubber bands for us. I prefer Mission Brand. I want nice and soft not rubbery & gooey.
We love their Salsa and I see others don't so it's all about preference.

The name on them is La Mas Rica. I'm thinking these might be different and I have to agree that everyone has their own preference/tastes. We love both their jar salsa and the fresh kind in the clear tubs that they sell.

A few years back we bought some bread crumbs (like for meatloaf) from Aldi. We ended up having grain beetles all over our pantry. They ended up in all of our dry goods. The exterminator traced them back to the Aldi bread crumbs. Since then we have not bought any "dry" goods from there. We do continue to shop there for other items, though.

I won't buy any produce at the one near me because most times I've been in there I see fruit flies.

I avoid the meats. They are vaccume packed and have a additive so you really don't know how fresh it is.

Didn't like the hot dogs... gross! My daughter who loves hot dogs spit them out. Fit & active key lime yogurt tasted funny. Didn't like the mayo. The cheap ice cream tasted like.. well, cheap ice cream! The texture was gummy too. I will generally check the labels and if the ingredients are comparable to what I would get at Wegmans then I will go for it!

I can't say I've tried everything at Aldi,but everything I have bought,I'd buy again!
My personal thing is I like organic and natural yogurts,so we don't buy their yogurt products. I think they taste fine, but we're looking for a healthier version than what they offer.
I honestly never bought anything we hated from Aldi, and I shop at least once a week here!

Oh wait, what another pp said....some of their meats have a LOT of solution added to it,I tend to buy 'natural' meats anyway,so rarely buy it there. I haven't even tasted it,so I don't know about the taste. Tho the corned beef last week tasted good!

they are the same parent company,SOME of the TJ's stuff is better, and some of it is the SAME with a TJ's label on it. You have to read labels to know the differences. In fact, some of the cold case products are EXACTLY the same, like the guacamole, etc. It's quite good. But I wish Aldi would carry more of the TJ's style of pure yogurts.....I buy those at TJ's!:cool1:

glad i found this thread...we just got an aldi...hoping to check it out soon...glad i know what to steer clear off...

The only "I'll never buy it there again and will go out of my way to get it somewhere else" item at Aldi is their Beaumont coffee that comes in the can with the plastic lid. We usually buy Folger's and Maxwell House, so we're certainly not picky (LOL!), but that coffee from Aldi is downright disgusting. We're drinking the Beaumont French Roast right now that comes in the smaller bag and that's pretty good. Just stay away from the really cheap stuff. :rotfl:

Have you gotten the whole bean coffee ,we do love that ,I also hate the ground beaumont, the Zambian,Costarican and there are maybe two others If you like a stronger coffee this is great!
