.........does it get hot in early September?

I am thinking of doing two separate mornings at AK instead of one full day because of the heat. When does the heat/humidity become unbearable in your opinion? Noon? 1:00?

Trying to decide if it's worth it to do it this way if we are only going to be there for a few hours. Thanks!

It's pretty much hot during daylight hours and then pretty warm when it's dark.....

I think at AK the humidity and heat is much worse than the other parks because of all the foliage and construction walls. I think 2 mornings is a good plan because I found it pretty unbearable by 12.30/1pm and so left and didn't get to see everything I wanted to. I would say do 2 mornings and have one for doing the safari and the rides and maybe a show and then have the other morning for the animal trails and the other shows.

This year I'm trying a full morning with a lunch ADR at Sanaa so I can get out of the heat for a few hours and then try again in the afternoon but I'm not holding out much hope...

Temperatures peak around 2 pm (give or take), but I find it miserable pretty much any time the sun is up. Having lunch in an air conditioned restaurant and saving the air conditioned rides and shows for the afternoon can help extend your day more comfortably.

But doing AK over 2 mornings and saving your FPs for a second park in the evening makes sense too.

My advice is to either arrive at rope drop and try to finish early, or if not finished, take a break and come back later in the day. For me I stay off site with friends about 40 minutes away so not an option for me but I do get there at rope drop and get as much done before the intense heat arrives and once it does, take it slow and drink lots of water. Any place that has fountain drinks will give free water. And for those concerned about the quality of it, it is the filtered water they use in fountain drinks, not Florida tap water.

I agree. We tend to start really feeling the heat around noon in Sept.

We avoided AK several years in a row because unlike the other parks we felt like it was harder to escape the heat. Even if we did RD it was only tolerable for maybe an hour before I felt like a hot sticky mess. The last few times we've done AK in the early evening and it is so much better! We have an early dinner and then head over for just the last few hours the park is open. At that time of day it's practically empty so you can get a lot done. Temperature wise, for me, it is much more tolerable in the early evening.

For me I do AK in about 3 hours so if I get there at 9 am I am done by noon. Odds are I will just go back to the house I am staying and enjoy the pool for the afternoon, or I may do HS as well and then just have a full day to rest at the pool and read.

We've always done AK from 9-12/1 because it's so hot. This year DS asked if we can do "2 days" which really means two 1/2 days. I was going to do one morning and then one afternoon since I hear crowds thin out after 2 pm. But we can't deal with the heat. We are going to do two mornings instead. We will save FP+ for our PM park.

I'm in the minority as far as heat goes, I was there during F&W last year, late Sept. I had to wear a sweater most mornings until around 11 then put it back on around 5 or so when the sun starts to set again. The rest of the day was not unbearable, I'm thinking it must have been late Sept., don't really remember the dates but I know it was Sept. and I know it was F&W. Disclaimer, I'm southern, have lived in the south most of my life so it has to get pretty hot for me to be miserable.

It gets miserable for me around 2:00 pm, but I am a Floridian, so maybe I am more used to it?

Thanks everyone! I live in Kentucky and I am pretty used to humidity, so I am thinking if we get there at rope drop we should be good until at least noon. Like someone said, AK is only open until 5:00, so going later in the afternoon doesn't really work for us. We are mostly interested in the safari and walking the paths to see the animals, so two mornings sounds like the way to go.

Well that's a bummer, but yes, I guess this plan only works if AK is open later. We go in summer so it's almost always open until 7pm.
