What time does Southwest open fares???

I am very jealous of the fares from Buffalo. Fares from Long Island were $129 each way and we are much closer! In fact, I could only get the $129 for 4 of the six tickets. The rest were $139. Still, it is done and I can get a credit if the fares drop. I am glad it is booked. One less thing to worry about. Now if only the rental cars come down!

Buffalo fares are very hit and miss. We have a lot of people come down from Toronto to fly out of Buffalo on Southwest. Toronto has 3.5 million people less than 2 hours away. Prime flying often books quickly. I was sitting at my computer ready to pounce to get that $59 fare.

Last December, I was doing the same thing to fly to Phoenix on spring break...the fares came out and they were $300 each way!!! I nearly keeled over. (We had paid less than $250 round trip the year before.) Even last year we paid over $200 round trip in August to Orlando.

So, we don't always get such good rates.

I checked fares at 9:15 this morning but saw no booking date changes so I checked here on the boards and read the post from jamstew, so I ran errands until about 11:30. Sure enough, the Oct. 30 date was still on the main page, but the new dates were there now under "Book Travel".
And I scored big!! Still stoked about it: $79 each way from Pittsburgh for our trip in December, both nonstop, both at times we really wanted (7 AM down, 4 PM back). I was hoping for at least two of three (nonstop, time, price in that order).
Just checked now and the flight from Pitts is now $119. I guess my six tickets helped push that up, eh?

I just rechecked our flights and I about :eek:I booked at $59 each way this am and now the flight down there is $161 and the return flight is $182! My dh is worried that they made a mistake and won't honor the flights. I told him that i have confirmation for all of them. It wasn't a mistake was it?????

No. Opening day fare sales, just like any fare sales, include a limited number of seats and when those seats are gone the sale fares are gone with them. Depending on the dates in question, SWA may or may not release new fare sales and additional lower-priced seats between now and the dates of the flights. The more flexible you are with regard to dates, times and taking connecting flights vs. nonstops, the more likely you are to be able to take advantage of a sale.

I keep seeing people referring to booking their return flight September 3. Is that when the next release of dates is? How do they know this?

Yah!!! :dance3: Just booked out RT flight for vacation Oct. 23rd - Nov. 1st. Leaving RDU at 4:45pm and departing MCO on Nov. 1st at 11:30am. Flight down was $97 each and back was $105 each. Total RT for the 3 of us was $669.60. Glad I did because the early morning flight was already not available so I'm assuming they are booked for that particular flight. DH and I have to work half a day so we needed the afternoon flight! Whew...glad that's overwith! :woohoo:

Now a question for you good folks. If by chance a Ding with a cheaper price than what we're already booked for how does that work? Do I have to actually rebook the whole "RT" trip all over again or will they just keep my payment and give me a credit?

Yep they increase fast! I booked early at $149. An hour later they were at $188...now they're at $224!!!

You must be leaving Nov 29th on the 7am flight out of Pittsburgh! I booked the same flight at $164.00 going down and will wait to purchase my fare to come home! Great Price for one of the busiest travel days of the year!!!!

We got return for $73 Jan. 6th 2010! I'm excited because my FL trip is going to cost in total: $172.20/person! You gotta love that for Xmas travel! :cool1:

I am hoping some ding fares come along because our trip was too expensive. DH says we'll drive if we have to ick!
