What the heck to do to get into Jedi Training?/How scary?

Hello! My Uncle and his family are visiting next week, and are asking my touring advice. They are interested in doing the Jedi Training academy, and I have never planned a trip that included it before, (seeing as my brother and I were too old for it since its incarnation.) What advice should I give my uncle to try and get his kids enrolled? Ooo, also, how scary is the experience? because the oldest boy will be fine, but the other too may not like it if it's too scary.

Arrive early and take any interested children to the signup location. It is nothing but a simulated lightsaber duel with either an evil Sith Lord or an unbalanced Sith Lord wannabe. If they understand the “simulated” part, they will probably be fine. There are plenty of videos of it on YouTube. Children must be between the ages of 4yo and 12yo.

I was watching some videos on YouTube and saw one where the kids individually took turns fighting Darth Vader. But in more recent videos there appeared to be twice as many children and the videos only showed them force pushing Vader away. Did they take the individual fights out? I wasn't sure if the videos I watched had been edited for length or if that wasn't part of the show anymore.

The most recent update to Jedi Training has two groups of Padawans involved in the training.

Onstage, those Padawans train against Vader.

On the ground level, that group now trains against Kylo Ren.

The show has been shortened back to 20 minutes. From wdwent.com:

20-minute shows near Star Tours - The Adventures Continue

Visit Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost early in the day to reserve a spot in the training. Participants ages 4-12 must be present to register. Space is limited.

Interesting update...does anyone who just experienced this know in advance how they choose the onstage vs the ground level groups? I'm sure my son would prefer to be onstage fighting Vader, although he'll be happy regardless. But if I can help guide him as to where to wait or stand, I would certainly do that...

Two lines, one for each villain, are formed as the children arrive to check back in. Ask CMs at that time for their opponent of choice and they may or may not be able to accommodate. Showing up earlier than others would improve their chances.

We’ve done it at both HS and DL and both times the kids who checked in first fought Vader.

When my son did it in December, they randomly lined kids up in two lines at check-in. The line closest to the walkway, furthest from building was the line that went to fight Vader. When they arrived at the stage, the lines somehow became unbalanced so they randomly moved children back and forth so it was even.

Each child gets a chance to "fight" one of several villains they bring out on stage. They basically split all the kids up into several groups, with each child taking turns battling the villain assigned to their group. They maybe spend a total of 15 seconds each doing this.

Also, to answer your question of if it's scary, I didn't think it was too intense, not even close for our (at the time) 7 and 8 year old.

Depends on how skiddish your kids are. Do they get pretty nervous meeting characters? If so, Jedi Training might be rough, because not only are they going to be meeting a character, they'll be meeting a villain no less, plus they wont' be within arm's reach of you. Gotta take all of that into account.

My son got right into it and they basically only “block” hits from the villain (in our case it was Darth Vader). The Jedi master worked with him to help him and they would adjust for any child that was scared. The scariest thing is all the parents watching and being on stage with everyone there. I have watched it many times and although some kids were timid, the Jedi master would navigate it. Even one time (after several attempts and the child hiding behind the Jedi) the Jedi fighting Darth for her. It was awesome. I wouldn’t worry. Just know that if they ask your child (while signing up) if they want to do it and they say no, they will not sign them up...at least that is what I was told by a CM.

Lol my DS had to be stopped because they sent a storm trooper in at the end of his fight against darth vader and he was going to hit the storm trooper with his light saber. Super cute show and I have never seen a kid upset or too scared. If so the parents are right there and can remove the child

My middle son did it when he'd just turned 4 and was fine, as was his nearly 7 year old brother. There was one older girl, maybe 9 or 10 who got upset and had to leave though. I wouldn't say it was scary, but will obviously depend on the child.

My kids did it for the first time last year at 5 years old. We ended up doing it at night and, although it looked REALLY cool, my daughter was very scared (my son was fine).
