What the heck is "Jersey Week"?

My understanding is that it's a week in the winter (February?) that most schools in New Jersey are off. NJ apparently is a big state for vacationers at WDW, so it's a busy week at WDW. It may cooincide with President's Day - my kids' old Montessori school here in Maryland always gives that week off, and calls it "winter break".

It's when there are a lot of people from NJ at WDW. I think it runs from March 1 to Jan 1.

Jan and Feb are England week.

Jersey Week is usually the week in November around Veteran's Day. This year it is 11/4-11/11. Most schools in NJ also have days off that week for teacher conferences . BTW, alot of NY'ers (like us!) are also headed that way since the kids have off for both Veteran's Day & Election Day the same week. :)

We honeymooned during half of Jersey Week last year. I was worried moving up toward our vacation and everyone told me to "relax" and that "every week is SOMEONE'S week."

They were wrong.

The crowds are not summer/holiday crowds but don't underestimate the power of New Jersey. Not only is it the most densely populated state, but it's also the biggest market for WDW. I wouldn't avoid Jersey Week like the plague (everyone was very nice at least!) but if you can go the week before or after I recommend looking into that.

:cheer2: Gotta give them credit, for a little state they pack a powerful punch! :cheer2: No other state has a week in WDW named for them! :cheer2:
We have also gone many times during Jersey Week. It has gotten more and more crowded as the years have passed. To the point, that it is very crowded now. Not Christmas and Easter crowded, but not walk on to rides either. Personally, we would go the following week.

It's not February, it's in the beginning of November and the dates vary slightly from year to year.

I'm not saying that there are not lots of Jersey people in WDW during President's week, I'm sure they come then too. :teeth:

With children school aged it is a nice time of year to go to WDW for the NJ families. My hometown had a delayed start to school and the rumor is the whole town is in WDW this week.

Everyone,

Jersey week will always be the week in November that includes Election day. Public Schools are closed the Thursday and Friday after election day for the Teachers' (NJEA) convention. :teacher: NJEA was able to get the NJ Legislature to pass a statute mandating that no teacher be forced to come to school during the teachers' convention (and we think DISNEY is the king of marketing :confused3 ), so most schools just give up and close for at least Thursday and Friday that week.

You will run into many NJ teachers that week in Disney because they opt not to go to the convention. :sad2:

Some schools will close for other days that week (like election day), and others (like ours) will close the entire week.

The busiest part of the week will be Thursday through Sunday.

We have been going during the Thurs-Sunday of New Jersey Teacher week for the last 4 years. Every year it seems to be more crowded. We will be there again and you will be in the minority if you are not from New Jersey. If you meet someone there, you have a 99% chance of guessing they are from NJ that week. But don't worry, we are a friendly state and welcome all to join us:cheer2:

This is EXACTLY correct. NJ is the only state that has their teacher conferences in November......Apparently the teachers also like WDW since very few attend the conferences.

This is not EXACTLY correct. Many teachers go to the conferences. Some go for all of the days. Some go for just one day( Usually the South Jersey teachers), and some don't go at all. But to say very few attend is not true. I have been to NJEA many times and have found it hard to find parking, seats at the conferences, and space to walk.

:cool1: "down the shore everything is alright with you and your baby on a saturday night.nothing matters in this whole wide world .when your in love with a jersey girl". warm nov. weather - close your eyes and you might be "down the shore " - not the" beach". a great time to be at WDW :cool1:

I respectfully disagree. NJEA has slightly under 200,000 members in NJ. I think the vast majority don't go to the conference, especially the tenured ones. Call me jaded... even a minority of NJEA members at those numbers would pack the AC convention center. I don't belive the AC convention center can even hold 10% of that membership.

I remember a few years back, I saw far more NJEA T-shirts at Disney than any others.

Sounds like, since so few people attend, that they should do away with the whole charade of Teacher's Convention. Then they keep school open in November, end a week earlier in the summer, and I get WDW to myself that week! :thumbsup2

At least I'll be able to understand everyone, I'm one of the folks that transplanted to Pa. These people don't speak english. What the heck does hanna mean?
Still Love Jersey but had to move for work, I'll be back!

I appreciate your respect. However, the way it works is that the schools are closed for the days of the convention. Teachers are not paid for this time. Some teachers go just one day and then go away the rest of the weekend. Some people only go for part of a day. Some people go all of the days and have a vacation in Atlantic City. Some teachers do not go at all. The convention center can certainly not hold all of NJEA at one time but they can if the members are not going at the same time. The teachers that don't go may be because they can't afford it not because they are in DW.Rooms are expensive in AC.How do you know whether or not those NJEA t-shirts came from purchases made at the convention? As far as the tenured teachers going, out of my grade level 10out of the 14 teachers go and they are all tenured. They just want to pick up information that is helpful to their teaching, or just shop for their classrooms! I just don't believe in making blanket statements that "very few attend their conference." If this was true, Atlantic City would have stopped hosting the conference years ago because they would have made no money.
