What the heck is going on first weekend in Nov?

and we're also from Northern NJ. Our schools are closed Thursday/Friday so I only have to take my older one out for 3 days. In the past, we've had 1/2 days the first 3 days, but this year, for some reason, they are full days. Still better than missing a full week.

We just bought DVC, but had already booked our stay for Jersey week. Bought our tickets months ago and also couldn't get a decent fare out of Newark so we're also on Song out of LGA. Michele, which flight are you taking? Maybe we're on the same one...Saturday, November 5th in the AM (around 10ish I think). And where in Northern NJ are you?

I'm planning on having T Shirts from our area (our local school, my sister's local...next town over...and our daycare) so that people will know where we're from.

Next year, we'll be staying DVC all the way!

We are DVC members(OKW and Boardwalk points) and had reserved (at 11 month OKW window)a Grand Villa at OKW for 11/3 and 11/4 and then a 2 BR for 11/5 using OKW points (not enough OKW pts for all 3 nites plus I thought some folks would leave Saturday). I called two weeks ago to add a studio for 11/4 using BW points as our party size had grown to 9 people and , amazingly, Member Services told me they could add the third night in the Grand Villa if I did not mind using BW points. I was shocked that a Grand Villa was available less than 4 months out on a Sat. during Food and Wine. Not having to move our group will be awesome.

Eight girlfriends going to celebrate my 50th b'day with Mickey and me! Cannot wait and I, too, am hoping the crowds aren't too bad.

Happy Birthday ccw, you're going to have a great party!

Bobbi :flower:

We tried to book our home resort BWV and couldn't that week. We ran into the same thing. 1 night here another there.F&W and also a big golf tournament ending the weekend before. We'll be staying at the GF & then the cruise for the weekend.
Have a great 50th!!! WoooHoooo

That's too funny! We are on the same flight! Unless they change something, we still have those days as half days. We have always gone to Disney in November - we love the fantastic weather and low crowds, but usually a week or two later (the week BEFORE thanksgiving is GREAT!) but since they would miss so little school the NJTA week, we felt like we couldn't pass it up and would try it this year.

We joined DVC in Sept 2003. Although we had considered it I think everytime we had gone to Disney, and even back in 1997, when we Honeymooned in Disney, we said to ourselves, "someday we will join" we did it almost on a whim. It was Sept. and we were actually vacationing in NC and were evacuated due to Hurricane after two days. Instead of heading back north, my husband said, "why don't we go to Disney instead". On the drive down, we booked the Wilderness Lodge and on the last day of our stay we did the DVC tour and signed up. :cool1: We always laugh about how, with everything, it was the most expensive vacation we've ever taken. ;) We love it, though...

We'll be there too! The seven of us will be training it down fron Newark to Orlando. Plenty of time to have the kids do homework, and since half the teachers will be there, who's missing anything!

Too funny!...Hey Rich, we used to live in Edison, by Ed. train station (not Metro Park) - Husband grew up in north Edison...

I'm sure all roads going to Newark and LGA will be more crowded the am of 11/5...

I haven't booked the flight yet!!!! I hope we get on something reasonable.

Where in Northern NJ are you? We're in Flanders, Morris County.

Also, how old are your kids? My boys are 7.5 (2/98) and almost 3 (his birthday in next Monday!!!). I'm sure my older one would be happy to have kids to talk to while waiting for the flight.

And what do you think about this new JetBlue situation out of Newark? I checked for our dates and the fares are really high. Also checked for Spring Break (we're out the week leading into Good Friday and Easter this year) and they were about $298 r/t. Too high for me at this point. I'm hoping it will drive the fares back down again. We flew EWR/MCO this past December on Song for $115/rt. Wonder if we'll ever see that again.

We've been flying out of LGA a lot lately, because it tends to be at least $25-30 cheaper than NWK. It is also, for us, surprisingly about the same commute, as long as you travel on a weekend or off peak hours. Sat. or Sun am we can make it to LGA in 35 minutes, which is the same for us as Nwk. I heard about Jetblue flying out of Nwk, but hadn't checked the flight costs yet. The flight on Song you got out of NWK last year was a fantastic price! I'm hoping we will see some better pricing in the fall, especially once
gas prices come down a bit.

Hey, I'm from NJ too, (Clark, to be exact) going Nov 5 out of LGA on SONG! But we're taking the 6:30 am flight. Need to be there nice and early! I just checked the Jet Blue out of Newark; the fares are high for our days, but 59.00 if you can fly midweek. But at least there's hope for flying out of Newark again. We just came back last week and flew Independence Air, out of Newark, with a onnecting flight in DC. Our flight from Newark was delayed and we missed the connection. Had to spend the night in DC. Never again!! The flight was 195 versus around 350 but we missed half a day in Disney!

Ok you Jersey girls/guys, help me out here...

Trying to start planning trip for '06, was considering early November until I bumped into this tread; now I want to avoid this particular week at all costs (no offense, just looking for a quieter time).

So, when is the week usually scheduled? I assume there's a pattern. In looking at this year's dates I notice it coincides with Election Day & Veteran's Day and the 1st full week in November. Is it always this week, or this there another criteria used for determining when it falls?

Thanks in advance, hope you all enjoy your special week.

It is not always the same week. Last year the convention was the 4th, 5th and 6th and I believe next year it will be the 9th, 10th and 11th.

I believe it is always the week of Election day, for example, which ever Tuesday is election day (rule is 1st Tuesday, except 1st day, of November) then the convention is Thursday and Friday of that week, and our schools usually have 1/2 days for teachers conferences the Mon-Wed. of that week, which is why it is so popular to go away that week. Not all districts do the 1/2 days, though...

Anyway, I can tell you that this is the first time we are going during this time. In the past we have always gone the week before Thanksgiving. It is a fabulous time in the "world" with lots of xmas decor starting to go up, crowds are at a minimum and the weather is wonderful. We've never had a rainy day, and the temp is usually around 75, some days low 80's and some days low 70's.

I'm not one to wait in line too long for something, and I have 3 kids under 6, so they don't have the patience to wait, either. We find most rides run with no wait to maybe 10-20 minutes for a more popular ride, like Winnie the Pooh, and perhaps maybe up to 20-30min for E-ticket rides like Space Mountain, etc. depending on the time of day. We rarely end up having to do a fast pass, since the lines are so short. After having gone during this time of year, I can never understand why folks go during the summer with all the heat and crowds. I'm SO hoping it isn't that much more crowded during NJ week. I know it will be all of NJ, but I'm hoping that threat will keep most other folks away! :rotfl2:

It figures  So between F&W and Jersey Week, do you think we're going to need a shoe-horn to get through the crowds that weekend..?!?!

It is not THAT bad during Jersey week!! We've been there several times during our school break...yes, we see TONS of people we know, but the waits are nothing!

We'll see you there ... Nov 5 -12! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Can't hardly wait!

I'd like to, and since Michele and I are on the same flight, our kids will be getting friendly (hopefully).

What does everyone think? Or is there something already planned that I've missed?

I was considering going that weekend, but if it coincides with the NJ Conventions, it will be impossible to get a flight for a reasonable price!

Hey did you guys hear that Jet Blue and Continental are having a fare war out of Newark. I saw flights this morning for around $135 rt. Even Thanksgiving day was available. Give it a try!!!

What are the New Jersey conventions? What kinds of trades are at these conventions.

And, why do you think so many people from NJ love WDW so much? It's interesting...I live in Phoenix, and I am one of the few "Disney nuts" around here.

TIA,
