What the H*ll, read this about VERIZON

The other thing I don't get is that they chage a $5 fee when it is late, but it is really a prebilled amount--you are always paying for the next month that has not been used...
I do get the $5 late fee, if your late than pay it whatever, but to add to that $2 for paying monthly with a cc, sorry thats just greedy.

Working at a bank I have seen to many mistakes with auto pay that I will not set it up. I just had a huge mistake with my car payment, they said I set up auto pay when I didn't so they took 2 car payments out. That was fun trying to get straightened out.
I feel no company should charge you to pay a bill with them. Your already paying them for a service why should I pay them to pay them for a service. Just another way to make money.

Everyone should just switch back to paper statements. That will stop them as it costs them a LOT more to send and process payments from paper statements. Not just the postage, but the paper, the ink, the people who have to process the statements on both ends. Plus it will be good for the post office :rolleyes1

Lol, that's my plan!

I will either set it up through my bank's online payments or send in a check but I don't even have the option of paying at our local store. Well, I do but they charge you $5 to pay in store. That's ridiculous!

Well I just seen them talking about this on Fox, and they stated that Verizon did try this with their internet/cable market, I believe, and it got so much outrage that they did resend it. Verizon is getting about as greedy as Disney!! Unfortunately, I give to both.

Really? Wow. I pay at the Verizon store every month to get my debit card points. I always use the bill pay kiosk and never get charged extra. I wonder if that will be changing.

What really irritates me about Verizon doing this is that as a result of Durbin they're paying lower switch fees on debit card payments for anyone using a card from a large bank. So they've been saving money for the past few months and now they want to charge a convenience fee? Unbelievable.

When the banks wanted to charge a convenience fee to people using debit cards everyone was up in arms. I can't believe how many people see this as no big deal when Verizon wants to do it.

I believe it is the same lady that started the petition for BOA, has started one for verizon.

Exactly, thats what I was thinking. Lower swipe fees they are paying, yet still trying to make an extra buck off of it. Pure greed.

My family's cell phones are thru Verizon and this ticks me off. I am used to paying my bill on their website each month. Looks like I will have to look into paying by electronic check, I guess. My time is worth too much to make a trip to their store each month and there's no way I'll be setting up auto-draft payments. I really don't want to even spend an extra .44 to mail the payment in! One question: a pp mentioned that our payments could be made by gift card?? Is that correct-does anyone know? That might be an option. Kindof a pain in the butt, but if I can pick up a gift card at the grocery store when I'm there anyway, that might be an option. I hate greedy companies. If I thought it was any better with another carrier, I'd switch, but they're all the same. Just like insurance companies, but don't get me started....

Just saw this on CNBC..............Verizon is pulling the 2 dollar fee. The report read a set of comments from the CEO and I remember hearing words to the effect of.............. being sensitive to customer feedback. (I am sure they got a boatload of it the past few days!)

They aren't going to charge the fee for electronic check payments, just one-time cc payments. If you want to set up recurring cc payments, that was another option that was free.

Exactly. The fee they proposed was just for one-time payments. Not ones that are reoccurring.

I just saw it on the news, they are not going to charge a fee now.

I do not have electronic check payments set up as recurring; I to not think they will charge a fee for that though.

My son's college and some of my utilities won't take cc payments for free either; they usually charge a small fee or a percentage of the charge.

I'm not a Verizon lover but I don't think charging $2 for a cc payment is a big deal. Do electronic checks or set it up for recurring payments.

And at least you can control that. They're scrapping the fee for now but you better believe they'll make it up somewhere else, and maybe you won't be able to control that.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE! :cool1:

Highly doubt that. More...power to the FCC looking into the matter!

I think it's pretty obvious what Verizon is trying to do. If you are the kind of customer who has access to a computer they want you to set up a recurring payment so they can be more sure of getting your payment on time.

Which makes no sense. Might be what they say, but...don't they make MORE in late fees than this $2 fee? Doesn't it behoove companies, money-wise, to have everyone pay late so they can charge that late fee?

All the utility companies in this area charge a $3.50 "convenience fee" for these kinds of payments and have been for years.

YOu have gotten used to this, because of your utility companies. My utility has no such fee. If I used Verizon, I would be peeved if they ever enact this.

From the article I linked to above they give a perfect example or two of why people don't want to set up autopay.

customers have a reason to be concerned about signing up for a direct withdrawal system. Wireless carrier bills are notorious for being different every month. Many customers feel they have been over charged upon receiving a bill, and want to challenge those charges before making a payment. In fact, in 2010 Verizon admitted to over charging 15 million customers.

Now if a company set up some sort of middle-ground, where the base fees, the ones you KNOW are going to happen every month, are auto-paid, and then you manually pay the extras...the extra text fees if you have a set number and go over, etc etc, that would be interesting.

Just exactly what, in your mind, is a process that would be acceptable to you?

Probably...the system they've been using. Going online or making a call and paying the bill, on time, on the day they wish to pay with the card they want to use.

Ya, well, they have not been hearing it for the past few days, because it was announced yesterday. They got an earful for like 24 hours and got the message. I guess they heard us now!!!!!

Thankfully Verizon ditched the $2 fee :thumbsup2

I truly do not understand those that said it was not an issue.... Verizon was going to charge a fee for a service that many of it's customers have used for a long time. One time on-line bill payment is how I have chosen to pay this and many others for years. I chose not to set up automatic deductions (seems like a large percentage of us including myself has had issues).
