What "Stuff" to Buy for Windsor Hills Condo?

Also remember that you are not going to Nepal. Chances are you will drive by several Publix, Walmarts and Targets on your way to your condo. Or you could check the condo pantry out, and then head off to the store with a list while the kiddies play in the pool. Thats what we usually do.

But...if I know ahead of time that I will need certain items, I can just bring a "few" from home rather than buy large quantities that will not get used. I'd rather spend my money in the parks than at Publix!

Night lights...and The Dollar Tree has some nice Disney ones for a buck!
I always bring them to my rental houses. One for each room :)

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for that tip! I totally need one for my youngest son. We're staying at a Windsor Palms condo and the owners provide a start-up kit:
"Three trash bags for the kitchen, a roll of paper towels, 4 rolls of toilet
paper, 2 bars of facial soap, and 2 dishwasher tablets. Under the
kitchen sink we provide cleaning supplies such as Windex, Comet,
liquid dish detergent, a cleaning sponge, and Resolve carpet cleaner
for you to use while you are there. A vacuum cleaner, broom, and mop
are also provided." They are so nice!

So you don't have to run out to buy t.p. the first day out!
:cool1:

We went to the Publix which was not very far... we thought we had missed it and were about to turn around when we saw the sign so maybe 5 or 7 minutes away from WH>

We picked up some essentials like... bottled water, milk, bread, lunchmeat, peanut butter, Jelly, cereal, fruit, Good COFFEE , donuts and ice cream.

I always bring an extra suitcase to Disney with extra stuff and then we load in our prizes for the trip home. I had packed diapers, wipes, soy formula, bottles, disposable spoons and sippy cups for the baby. I had packed laundry detregent, dishwasher tablets, garbage bags, shampoo, bar soap for the household needs. As well as ziploc of all sizes which I find endlessly useful for trips, especially to Disney when you are out and about all day. I also threw in a bunch of $1.00 poncho's which came in VERY handy later in our trip.

We had forgot to buy papertowels and kleneex so we made a trip later that week plus more milk and toliet paper. It is amazing how much of these two items my family can go through. I wish I would have remember to have some coupons tucked away in my purse.. but this was not on my list to do before we left. We also picked up some Clorox Cleanup Wipes.. I am addicted to Colorox Wipes.. I just feel better if I can give everything a quick wipe down before bed.

I am adding to the list....

Salt & Pepper Packets
Sugar Packets
Ketchup Packets

subscribing:) I am starting to put my extended family trip for 2009 together and your recommendations are helpful. I will continue to watch for new posts and try to put a list together. I will post the list I make, but it will vary for different people staying in different homes or condos. I want everybody to keep their ideas coming!

Taking lots of notes since we are thinking of renting a house over the Christmas holidays....

I was just wondering what the owners or management companies do with all the leftover stock...eg Dish soap. If I buy a bottle of dish soap, chances are I'm not going to use the whole thing and I'm not going to bring it home with me. does it just get tossed out?

I'm just curious as it just seems like such a waste if this is being done every week in multiple rental condos and houses throughout Orlando.

Great thread! I'm also taking notes. Thanks for the reminder about a corkscrew since I'll probably want to pick up a bottle of wine.

I agree that there is some waste particularly in foodstuffs that get tossed when
folks leave.

Folks just expect clean linens and towels, new unwrapped soap, a clean fridge, etc. Its something that you just have to do.

The wasted food does particularly bother me. Knowing another group is
coming in; it wo:rolleyes1 uld be nice to keep those juice boxes, that half dozen eggs,
etc. Unfortunately we just cant do it.

Shifting gears a bit, you are doing yourself a favor to rent a house. Before
we bought a house, we stayed on disney property at cheaper and fancier places.
Its nice and there is something special about being on property. BUT...rent a
house and you will be spoiled forever. Private pool, the privacy of a
multi-bedroom house, the space, the kitchen, multiple bathrooms with showers,
the laundry, etc, etc,. You really get spoiled and its hard to imagine a hotel
room, even a nice one after you've stayed in your own private house. They
really are a value nowadays as the market is so saturated with rentals.

Hmmm....a 650 sf hotel room for $150/night or a 4 bedroom house with a private
pool for $130/night???? Let me think.....
:rolleyes1

The cleaners get to use what is left in the home if they so choose. With not so large wages I bet this helps with their food bill.

It is also illegal to leave anything open in the homes by Florida statutes.

I'm glad to hear this. This was my assumption, and we've left some things out when we left before assuming the cleaners would take it.

I personally wouldn't want to use any left over food items but it was more the cleaning supplies that each "tenant" purchases for their week that I was questioning.

It's good to know that if the cleaners want it they can have it. With the economy sinking I was hoping that someone would get use out of it. Thank-you for this information.

Chrisinroch...we are looking forward to renting a house. Our kids are getting older (teenagers) and like their own space. My DS17 is 6 ft tall and all arms and legs. He takes up too much room in a hotel and DD 15 takes way too long in the bathroom so having more than one is a bonus! We are planning to go with another family so a house is definitely the way to go. We have stayed on site 3 times and as much as we love it, we don't feel we "need" to stay there anymore. We don't go to the parks everyday anymore anyways...

Thanks for all of the feedback!:flower3:

The give you a very small amount of laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet paper & bath soap.

Things you should purchase or bring if you are staying for more than a couple days...

Laundry detergent/bleach
Dish detergent (mainly for dishwasher)
Maybe some extra garbage bags
Toilet paper
Your own bath soap/shampoo
Any groceries/food you might want
Bottled water...water tastes/smells like sulphur

I found individual uses of Tide and bounce in the travel section at walmart. Where you would normally buy those little bottles of shampoo ect. I having been buying one a week (they are just a dollar) it makes me feel closer to vacation. They also have the ponchos for a dollar which I'll buy one of for the next 4 weeks. and so on. It makes me happy to buy for vacation and still have money for vacation. I know a little strange!!
