What Sorts of Things Will/Would You Do (or not!) on a Solo Trip?

Sounds like alot of fun. i can't wait until i can go alone without the kids and DH. Just me a book, shopping and fine dinning:)

Not sure if I'll do the deluxe dining plan, but I'm thinking about it. I will NOT be doing a character meal; I think a 51 year old single guy would look a little conspicuous!

I am older than you and NOT telling my age:rotfl2: I do character meals solo all the time. The least conspicuous place you can be is at one of the meals! Everyone is very involved in keeping their kids in their chairs so they don't go running off after the characters. I have had moms take my picture with characters - especially if I take theirs.;) If you think people are looking at you at a character meal you either have ketchup dripping down your shirt in copious amounts - or - you could use a little medication...

I get four days for myself before DH and DD arrive for F&W in October. Usually tour with DD, and we are quite compatible in what we like to do, so I can't complain. HOWEVER, I will:

Spend hours over at the Wonders of Life pavilion trying the wines;
watch the gorillas at AK for as long as I want to;
go see Fantasmic, it's been ages.

That should keep me busy!

Oh I echo so many of these points. You have me smiling ear to ear on them.
- stay at the Poly in 2009 cause no one can afford to go to WDW, let alone stay at the Poly!!

I adore traveling solo because it's all about you Baby!!! I love my family and friends but my family does the parks like a commando raid and my friends just think my Mom was weird hooking me onto Disney at a young age. Neither know the joy of doing whatever you want at your resort, or at the parks. It's heaven!

Anyone debating whether to do it or not: DO IT!!! IT'S WONDERFUL!!!:cloud9:

My first solo trip to Disney is this Dec (10-15) I can't wait...we've done family trips many many times, but there are so many things I want to do that I know will bore them to tears!!!! If there are any other solo travelers that will be there at the same time, drop a note and maybe we can meet up for a quick bite or a rider! Happy traveling!

Great thread! I'm off for my 1st solo trip in Aug/Sept and plan to do exactly what I want to do which will include the following:- KTK, Segway & AK tour, I have Wishes booked with some friends, go on all the rides I enjoy as many times as I want, I've got Adr's for all my favourites places to enjoy, going to book a some spa treatments at GF & Dolphin. I'm really looking forward to Epcot as I can wander round WS, browsing and if choose not to buy anything right away, and can go back later;) I'm going to read when I want to, watch rubbish on the tv late at night and change my plans if I want to. A glass of wine at my resort hotel and watch the world go by. I've been many times over the years with my family so we'll see how it compares!

Hi ! This December 7th - 13 will be my 8th, annual solo WDW trip.
It would be great if the bunch of us could meet for a breakfast somewhere in the Epcot resorts area. Keep In Touch !

I have two solos coming up. I'm turning 60 in November, so decided I'd whoop it up whilst I'm still a youngster.

First one is in July to SSR. I plan to walk every path I can find, spend at least two days in AK, take a book with me everywhere, kick back and enjoy the heat.

Second one is in Oct to AKLV. Obviously, I'll hit AK several times, but will also treat myself to ADRs, maybe a tour. With less crowds, I can "do" the other parks, too.

I've promised myself to do EE once...just so I can say I did it. Went on Dinosaur and Space Mountain last time. Never again!

I had a one-day-only solo trip the last time I was back in the States and this is my list...

1. Have a pineapple/vanilla swirl cone in Adventureland for breakfast.
2. Ride the Jungle Cruise and 'ooh' and 'aah' with utter abandon.
3. Ride TTA at least twice.
4. Actually look in the shops in Fantasyland.
5. Take the monorail from Epcot to MK and back.
6. Enjoy a Kaki Gori next to the koi pond in Japan.
7. Spend too much time goofily planning future trips.
8. Play with all the sensory gagets at the end of Jounrey into the Imagination.
9. Insist on calling it Journey into the Imagination.
10. Sit and watch people try Beverly. :lmao:

this coming fall will be my 5th solo trip to the motherland.

i love it ! i do hook up with some disers time to time that i have met on the boards. for the most part, i am solo while down there.

I love it because:
1. i can order ice cream creations or rich chocolate desserts at the table service resturaunts first. after i finish that, i order the main meal.
no husband yelling at me that i should order food first, sweets second.
no husband lecturing me i should not eat two desserts at one sitting....
i have done that when i have gone solo...

i can eat what i want and when i want it......

and yes, when i go to ohana's i am not embarrassed to eat the entire salad....like the wait staff are going to remember the gal that ate it all and still ate the rest of the food.........

2. i don't have to make my bed or clean my room. mousekeepers, i love you

3. no children or spouse to clean up after or push to get ready for the day.

4. no sharing the bathroom or mirror/sink area in the room.

5. no one to "ask" permission to go out at night once i am back in my room after the park closes. DTD is a really fun place to shop ! and, i can shop all i want without having someone in the family say to me, "we've been here for 15 minutes, are you ready to leave yet?" or "do you really need that?"

6. if i am tired, i can sit and people watch and not have a family member tell me how boring that is.

7. i can spend more money on myself and do ALL the tours since they are home and i am there.........:rolleyes1
did the MK tour twice, behind the seeds, etc and didn't think twice of all the "downtime" i lost on the rides....sons think all of us should do rides only

8. i can have the tv on all night and put it on any channel i want. i do not have to watch all the sports on tv but can keep watching the resorts channel. And another plus, i can eat snacks in bed.........

9. i can park hop, pin trade, talk to strangers, go back to the room and take a nap for an hour, walk around in my room in my undies, etc...

10. i can stay for all the fireworks at the parks and not have anyone with me that will gripe that we need to leave before the rest of the crowd lines up at the bus stop for our resort. i can stay until the crowd leaves the park for the bus or just wait the hour long time it can take to get my turn to get on the bus. i don't even have to have a seat.......

11. i don't have to be an alarm clock and tell everyone time to get up for an early start. don't have to get stressed when they want to sleep in, run and do a load of clothes for them while on vacation, wait for them and miss the bus cause they forgot their passes back in the room, etc.......i am only accountable for me.

12. i can ride what i want and when i want. i can skip rides if i choose without a riot on my hands, i can do repeat rides, i can change the plans at the last minute if it suits me, etc.....

and the best thing is, i can totally relax and only be responsible for ME on the trip...........

any trip that i take is great. i especially enjoy the part where i don't have to cook, clean, do laundry, do household errands when i vacation........:rolleyes1
i know i can come up with more things to say about the joy of going to the motherland solo.....

You guys are getting me excited for my first solo trip in December! Well, it is a family trip for the first 5 days and solo for the last 3. I am so looking forward to doing whatever I want, whenever I want:

Sleep in if I want to

Visit all the deluxe resorts decked out for Christmas

Shopping in Downtown Disney

Order a treat from the Main Street bakery and people watch

Ride TTA a million times in a row (I LOVE TTA!)

Order Pop room service pizza and watch Stacey's Top 7 over and over again!

Go swimming in the bowling pin pool at Pop

Pin trading, pin trading and more pin trading!

Take bus to the MK and then the Monorail to the Poly just to lie on the bach and watch the Electrical Water Pageant and Christmas Wishes!

Great ideas everyone! :teeth:

It is great to finally know that I am not the only person over 50 who enjoys WDW solo. Most of my friends think I am nuts to go to the World twice a year. At least when my husband was alive, he talked about playing golf and all the great dining. That they could comprehend. Now, that I am going solo, all I hear is "aren't the parks just for kids? Aren't you too old for this?"

I love going by myself-for all the reasons that previous posters have listed. It is just fun to do what I want, when I want, as many times as I want. I really don't even have a plan. I often get up, go to the bus stop and take the first bus that comes along, as long as it isn't going to the park I went to the day before. If that happens, I take the next bus. I make ADR's for a few of my favorite restaurants, but often I just eat when I am hungry. Sometimes I have a big lunch and then a snack for dinner. Sometimes I just snack my way thru the day (think Epcot).

This year will by my first trip to F&W. I can't wait to experience it and will be able to spend as much time there as I want.

I've loved reading everyone's lists! I have so many new things to do in my 2 1/2 days - btw, I'll be there 9/26 - 9/28. Let me know if you will be, too!

I will:

Try a schoolbread in Norway; a cream cheese pretzel in MK; a real ice cream sandwich from the Main St. Bakery; Beaches & Cream; Earl of Sandwich; savor my Fiesta Margarita in Mexico, instead of trying to hurry for sake of dd, and getting a brain freeze everytime!

Ride EE, RnRC, ToT, and Splash since kid will not. Ride SM, Buzz, TTA, PoTC over and over; watch shows - Beauty and the Beast, FotLK, Little Mermaid, all the things dd doesn't want to sit still for - and the movies in China and France. Watch Off-Kilter and British Invasion without bored, sighing child rolling her eyes, and any other performers I've missed before.

Takes lots and lots of pictures ( I love the idea some of you had, to take pics for groups - I'll do that, too! )

Tours will have to wait for next solo jaunt, when I have more time....

I will NOT:

Put Stacey on! My dd watches her ad nauseum every time we're in the room, so NO Stacey (besides, that just may be the thing that will make me miss my child!)

Waste snack money on popcorn. Too many sweet treats to try! I can get popcorn anywhere, but dd always NEEDS it.

Order chicken nuggets from ANYWHERE! yeehaw!

Can't wait! :cloud9:

Candice30 -
hey wait - I'm the world's greatest aunt!!!

Gotta agree with you on "spend no less than 2 days in and out of the shops at epcot". It is so great not to be rushed.

Also I call home from the Guerlain shop in France to ask who needs a new bottle of L'Heure Bleue and the UK shop to find out what kind of Twinings tea do people want.

And you must add to your list riding the TTA at least twice in a row. And don't forget to ride the MK train the entire route twice before getting off.
