I would like to bring something other than junk food! I figure he will get enough of that anyway! I would also like something totable to take into parks! And non messy!! :Pinkbounc I was thinking about granola bars and trail mix? Any other suggestions? Do your kids eat dried fruit?? :rotfl: Any suggestions welcomed! :cheer2:

Well, my guy was only 20 months old on our trip last month, so I don't know how helpful this will be, but . . .

Some of the things we took were carrot sticks, raisins, gold fish crackers, cheerios, and apple slices.

We also froze capri suns for them. By the time they were ready for them, they were defrosted, but still cold.

My kids love cheerios and raisins mixed - I toss in a few mini chocolate chips and they are in heaven. You could easily make a bag or bags up ahead of time.

I have been looking for some healthy ideas as well - not sure what the apples are like in Florida (we live in Apple country) but if they are crunchy I will pick some up and take them. The kids love them especially if they can dip a bit in peanut butter.

I recently bought some mickey fruit snacks and some buzz light year granola bite pouches.

We bring a small package of peanut butter crackers for our kids, along with some trail mix, and cereal bars. (carrot sticks are great too..)

Thanks for the tip- my ds4 is VERY picky, and I think he might like that.

We love the fuit snacks, like fruit roll-ups, quick and easy and non-messy. Maybe not the most nutritional, but better. On our backpacking trip this summer we lived on these things!

I carried a small soft-side cooler and stuck it in our stroller basket. In it were: 100% juice boxes, 8oz waters, cheese sticks, peanut butter crackers, carrot stix, trail mix, triscuits, and fruit snacks.

I bought tons of snack for this trip:

mini cereal boxes
nutty bars
cookies: mini packs of oreos, nutter butters, chips ahoy
goldfish
cereal bars
pringles
mini bags of chips
juice boxes
fruit snacks (Toy Story/Lion King/Nemo)
Honey Sticks (graham cracker sticks)
Vanilla Wafers
Cheese crackers w/peanut butter

I may or may not take:
Bread for PB & J
carrots w/veggie dip

I read somewhere that the grocery store has Peanut Butter and Jam Pockets - has anyone tried them. I wondered if they would be a handy thing to take to the park - already ready to go. I think they are frozen so as long as we keep them cool they should be ok. ??

If you can bring along a soft-sided small cooler or lunchbox you could pack string cheese, Gogurt, apple slices and juice boxes. Some other good items that don't require being kept cold are trail mix, raisins, peanut butter crackers (my DD likes the Ritz Bitz mini PB sandwich crackers), granola bars, and the like.

Hi! Just a quick question for the US mommies. I live in England, I have a DD 20 months. I noticed many of the child snacks and meals in USA contain peanut butter. Here we are told to avoid it until the child is 2 or 3 I think because of allergies. My DH has mild asthma but is fine with peanuts.

Would you try her with peanut butter? What advice are you given re peanuts! I am looking forward to when I dont have to avoid nuts in food!

My daughter has cheerios, sugar fee baby biscuits, little boxes of raisins and goldfish crackers for snacks when we are at WDW.

Thanks for any advice,
Mandy ::MinnieMo

Hi Mandy. Here in the US they also say to wait until the children are 2 or 3 to give any kind of nut product, although I tried my older DD at 18months with my pedi's blessing and she did fine. If you want to try it, first put a small dab on the inner wrist. If she has a red-bumpy reaction, then DON'T give her peanut butter. If she doesn't, then you might try putting a small bit on her lips to lick off. Wait a few moments, see how she does, and if she seems to do okay, keep giving her a little more. This is how I did it with my DD to "test the waters" and she did fine. Just remember it can be a choking hazard so spread it very thinly.

There are other nut butters out there, like almond and soy butters, which are better in terms of allergies.

I have been compiling lists from posts that I searched for travel food and foods to take into the parks and kept track. Here are suggestions (some repeats) ... thanks to all the other members, too:

GoGurts (preferably frozen - but they don't contain beneficial yogurt cultures)
Pudding
Jello cups or jello with fruit cups
Fruit cups
Baggies of cereal or trail mix
Tuna and cracker kits
Bagel sandwiches (less soggy)
Beef or turkey jerky or beef sticks
Cheese and crackers
Homemade bars or cookies
Popcorn in baggies (of course, be careful since popcorn is a choking hazard)
Sliced fruit with caramel dip
Sliced veggies with Ranch dip (they come out in convenient one serving size cups now)

Anybody know if fresh fruit i.e. apples would survive a trip in a suitcase on a 2 hr plane ride.

Just a heads up that I've read multiple times
from other threads:

There are NO Cheerios to be found in the parks.
"Make sure you bring them with you,"
I've been advised by several DIS'rs.

I'm assuming the food courts haven't added them to
any cold cereals they may carry?

Just a note, I never bring fresh fruit because it gets super sticky and attracts bees. I own a food dehydrator (yes, I loved infomercials in the early 90s) and I make apple chips and banana chips, sometimes strawberry chips (pretty sure you can buy these as well). I also bring goldfish and cheerios. I try to stay away from salty things like potato chips and crackers because it will make them thirsty. I also start cleaning and hoarding our "Fruit on the Bottom" yogurt cups before I leave because they have a lid and fit nicely into our stroller's cup holder, and just put the "snack rations" in those instead of bags. Oh, and since my DD has a tendency to lose her sippy cups, and since juice boxes become weapons in her hands, I buy some of those sport water bottles with the little valve, and use those for drinks. I also buy disposeable kids flatware for restaraunts.

We do goldfish, pretzels or rice cakes (they make small sized rice cakes in many flavors & they are much better for you!). My kids eat dried fruit but dd4 just got back from the dentist & had 2 cavities. I was so shocked! I pride myself on nutritious food (in fact my friends mock me about my dd not getting any treats). The dentist said raisins, dried apricots, etc are the worst (as are fruit snacks). So now dd flosses (didn't realize you could get a 4yo to floss!!). We are cutting out anything sticky! We do cheese and crackers or peanut butter & crackers (you can find wheat ones) or just plain old wheat crackers. We do fruit but you would probably have to cut everything up for a 20 month old which will make it pretty messy & sticky.
We were very prepared at WDW with zillions of snacks & then never really used them!! I thought my 1yo might need them to keep her quiet but she was so fascinated with everything I never needed them. And dd4 was so fascinated too that she never seemed to ask for snacks & we just ate our regluar meals with a Mickey Bar or Dole Whip thrown in once or twice!!
