What should I do?

We recently bought at VWL under the following circumstances:

In September of 1999 we toured BWV and were very interested in buying. We started the paperwork but soon after I received a job offer at a new company. At that time I just didn't feel good about spending 10K+ after taking a new job. We ended up not going through with the purchase.

After a year I felt more stable in my position and my guide had kept in contact. I called her around October 2000 and BWV was quickly selling out (or maybe it WAS sold out) in any case she said my best bet would be for VWL. At that time they were not up for sale and she also mentioned she didn't know when CA would be available. I told her I wasn't in any rush aside from any pending price increases) and so we kept in touch over the next few months. Around February I booked a cruise on DCL. The end of March my guide called me and said things were not looking good for CA as sales were going so quickly at VWL and the date for CA approval kept getting pushed back, she asked if there was any chance I would be in the Orlando area so I could make an on-site purchase. I told her I would be on the cruise the end of April and I had booked a late flight home. She said to call her when we were back at the ship and I knew what my schedule for the day would be. Now the important part.....While on the cruise I stopped by the DVC desk and explained my situation in detail. They said it would be no problem to have the documents drawn up and they could even provide me with transportation back to the airport. I assumed once I arrived at the offices at BWV I would be met by my guide, in reality I was met by the guide who was on the Cruise. I completed all the paperwork and, viola DVC membership. My concern is 2 things:

1. Did my original guide who did all the real work selling me in get credit for my purchase? How can I make sure?
2. I don't really like the guide I met on the Cruiseline as much as my first guide, should I try to change?

Anyone with advice?

TIA
Charlie

I am really surprised. After 3 years, when we finally decided to buy, our names were looked up and we got the same guide. I don't think they ever change guides (unless you specifically ask)

I would contact DVC and let them know your concerns. See what they say. But it sounds like the DVC guide on the cruise may have circumvented the system!

We had a sort of similar situation....

On the day we were to meet with our guide she became unable to meet with us (she called us in advance and asked if we were willing to meet with a member of her team and we said okay). We joined during this meeting.

Well, the guide who we met was then assigned to us permanently.

When I called to do my add on I called my first guide, because I felt she was more informative, friendly, reliable and helpful than the second guide. I ended up having to email my guide's supervisor to be switched. I then found out that my first purchase had been credited to both guides equally and due to the circumstances my guide decided to split credit for my add on too. But I now have my original guide back.

So your original guide probably got at least some credit for the sale....and if you want to you could be switched back to him. I only did this because I was adding on, and may well add on again someday. If you don't plan to be in contact with DVC sales again it probably wouldn't be worth switching.

Definitely call your original guide.
We were in a similar situation where we considered buying while at HH about 3 years ago.
We had kept in contact with our guide, who was awesome, over the years and finally purchased this past April at VWL.
We kept the lines of communication open throughout with our original guide because of the same concerns. He was more than willing to facilitate the transaction and I assume, was credited accordingly.

If we ever do an add on or have questions, my HH guide will be the one I call first.

Good Luck!
:D

I would call your original guide and make sure that she is still your guide. Be upfront that you were suprised she didn't handle the paperwork and that youare concerned that she got the credit and that she will remain your guide. It could be that your guide was not working that day (sometimes they let them take a day off). I had a situation where someone else handled the paperwork for an add-on but I still had my original guide.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I did call my guide and she indicated she wasn't aware I had purchased but the new guide had not assigned himself to me as of yet. She said she susupected this was because he was going to leave her as the primary guide. She was very thankful for the call.

On another note she did say they are really pushing for a "pre-sale" on BCV to begin Oct-Nov as VWL are still tracking to sell out by then.
