What should be in the UK pavilion?

a rock shop - can you imagine them rolling the rock (a la Blackpool) with Walt Disney World running through the middle :)

We could even claim the Eiffel tower in the French pavilion as the Blackpool Tower and Illuminations as traditionally English :goodvibes:

I cannot tell you how many teapots, crunchie and flake bars, Beatles t-shirts and copies of The Princess Bride I sold while working there! :rotfl2:

They need more royal family stuff as that's what we were always asked for however, the Tardis ride idea is brilliant!

I would love to see a celebration of children's literature. Many great British writers created the characters that Disney adopted. I would like it to be an exhibition in the style of One Man's Dream. It could look at the original works of J M Barrie, AA Milne, Lewis Carroll and PL Travers. It could also celebrate the fabulous art of Ernest H Shepard and Mary Shepard.

Hi,
The red phone boxes should have broken windows and smell like a toilet. A park bench with drunks and cans of beer and also several boarded up shops. Can't you tell how much I love my home town..?!!

oh dear:rotfl:

that would be a great addition - a ride of some kind -
so what kind of ride and what would be the focus...
(let's hope for something a wee bit more clever than the one in mexico  )

I'd have it where you enter a side alley which serves as a queue (it would require the ride building to be the alley, and the restrooms would be removed and re-positioned behind the tea shop near the outdoor stage and gardens).

As riders approach the ride building and indoor queue, they'll pass, single file, through the Tardis doors and lo and behold, it IS bigger on the inside!

The interior queue area would be a detailed replica of the inside of the 11th doctors (or 12, but we haven't seen that one yet) Tardis, and it would be a round switchback queue with the Tardis core as the centerpiece and the lines moving around it. Guests would have plenty to look at and the Doctor has all sorts of neat little interactive things littered about. Here, guests will pick up their 3D glasses as well, which are held onto the head with elastic headbands.

The ride itself would consist of a flat seat attached to a kuka arm. Each vehicle will support 2 riders. While the vehicles are separate, they will operate quite closely to one another so there are some "shared experience" rooms.

So, once clear of the loading zone, the arm will position itself with the riders facing forward as they enter the "time vortex". The arm will swing them around as they chase a spinning Tardis 3D projection which whips through the famous vortex.

Ride vehicles will also have speakers embedded in them so 3D sound effects can be achieved, outside of the ambient sound. The theme pounds in their head during this scene as they enter the apex of the vortex and the ride begins.

No idea where to go with this (or rather, too many ideas)...but, it would be a high adventure ride akin to Spidey or FJ at IoA, using a mixture of animetronics, lighting and smoke effects, and 3D projections, to build a thrilling ride experience in a park (and part of the park) that sorely needs more rides.

But, I think something like this could turn out very well! And, just think of all the merchandising opportunities! That should have Disney licking their chops.

Rain!

Seriously, although its the British way to moan, I have a Gold Medal in moaning, when I walk through there I do like the feeling it gives me, but we need a movie celebrating the UK way, like France has or Canada.

there just not enough going on. Its just dull in that respect.

Haha, when we went in December 2013, we walked over to the UK pavillion, and it just started raining! As soon as we started to move on, it stopped!

englanddg you certainly have the Dr Who ride worked out. Would it have a set ride like Forbidden Journey or different adventures like Star Tours?

I think different adventures would be neat. The nice thing about the Kuka on a track is that you could have it go into different "rooms" each ride through using switches on the track, that way you could have the variation, but also have the mixture of effects like FJ has.

Each experience could pay homage to famous episodes / Doctors...and each ride would be different!

I'd keep riding it until I got to see Tom Baker!

Tom Baker was my childhood Dr Who. Not sure the scarf would work in the Florida heat!

My DH is a big Dr Who fan. So I just showed him this thread.

He has elaborated on this idea and thinks you could have a sonic screwdriver that you carry around the pavilion and it does stuff a la Kim Possible/Perry.

Or there could be a HoP style show with the animatronic Doctors. Haha.

I think Disney should try and get hold of Dr Who before Universal. It certainly could be quite a scary ride - I still remember hiding behind the settee as a child!

I love these ideas!

If they don't do a ride (though I think they should), they could at least do a show like Dr. Who at the Proms!

I'm loving the Princess Time Lords. If Dr Who is quintessentially British what else should be in the UK pavilion? After all a Tardis doesn't take up much space! ;)

Something from Wales- they removed the miners lamps and lovespoons many years ago - it seems to be all Twinnings tea, and Beatles stuff, with the odd Dr Who thing thrown in.

The lack of anything Welsh drives me bonkers. Rugby shirts for one, Welsh Cakes, The Mabinogion. After all, America was named after a Welshman John ap Meryck and Prince Madoc was the first white man to go there. :cool1:
