We are going at the end of August which I know is super hot, so I was wondering what comfortable shoes (too hot for runners??) or sandals to wear?
With all that walking and afternoon rain showers I'd like to know what is best for myself, DH and 2 DD (ages 5&7) to wear for long days at the parks??

In May I took my Teva Pretty Rugged Leather sandals, Teva Mush flip flops, Croc Beach Model, and Croc Nile sandals. The Crocs are not very good on wet pavement and the Niles gave me two small blisters. My Tevas on the other hand did wonderfully. I've never been able to wear flip flops (hate the little thingy between the toes), but the Teva Mush flip flops are so comfortable.

In January I took sneakers (Tevas and Sketchers), never again. My Teva sandals and flip flops are coming with me in September and again in January.

4 pairs of shoes?....you must have a big suitcase... :)

you should take what's comfortable and it should definitely be broken in....do not bring anything new or you will pay the consequences (i.e. blisters)..

August is still very very hot so if you like sandals, that would be fine...

many people swear by sandals of various kinds, others prefer trainers...
pick what's right for you....perhaps bring one pair of each to try out....but whatever you wear, it MUST be broken in....

i'm a sandals person and live in my birkenstocks (without a backstrap), but that's what works for me....my kids wear teva style sandals at WDW (and at home)...my husband also wears birks (the kind with the backstrap) at WDW and year round (we live in a hot climate)...

If I can get two pair of shoes in without dh rolling his eyes I feel lucky.

I'm looking for Tevas on sale. I own 4 pair of Birkenstocks so it is hard to justify another pair of expensive sandals.

How are Nike rafting type sandals?

We went last August and I wore my Teva Pretty Rugged (leather) sandals and they were GREAT! Not one blister and it was great when it rained, which it does everyday.

Good luck deciding!

We went august last two years wore my running shoes. Ihad good socks had no blisters or hot spots . I suggest wearing whats comfortable for you .

This could be a huge discussion, as everyone has their own preferences. But it all boils down to what you are most comfortable with, like Disneyholic Family said.
I personally perfer sandals & I bring ALOT of them, easily 4 pairs & sometimes more. (Tevas, Clarks, Crocs)
Some folks perfer runners. They make my feet too hot.
Whatever you wear at home when you are on your feet for long periods of time & works best for you is what you should wear. My SIL wears slides with a heel at WDW because that is what she is used to & they work perfect for her.

We will all be wearing our Birkenstocks- even my 2year old. I just find them to be best all around shoe for hot humid and rain- or Kali River.

If wearing sandals make sure your feet are sexy

my last trip, I had 6 pairs with me, 2 dress sandels, pool flip-flops, 2 sneakers. and my mephisto's. for me I never have a problem with sore feet. but in the AK I wear my sneakers and other parks ?I were my mephistos.I find if you change and not were the samething 24/7,,,you do just fine!

for you...I would proably go sneakers and Tevas

I'm in the Uk - where can I get some of these tevas I read so much about?

I usually wear sneakers as I hate blisters but they do make your feet hot - I'd love a really comfy pair of sandals.

Flip flops are really big in the Uk at the moment but I just can't do distance in them - i wear mine at work and then put my sneakers on to walk home!

I usually bring at least a pair of broken-in running shoes and my Teva's. During the day I wear my Teva's. If we go back to the resort to use the pool, I switch to running shoes when we go back to the parks in the evening. It tends to be buggier at night and bites on my feet drive me crazy  Also it is nice to have a dry pair in the event you get caught in a downpour. Wet shoes give me blisters.

I'm a big fan of my Nike Deschutz sport sandals. I was unable to find a pair of Tevas that were comfy on my bony feet, but the Nikes are perfect. I suggest finding a shoe store that carries many kinds of sport sandals so you can compare. I ended up trying on Tevas, Merrills, Keen and Ecco before settling on the Nikes.
I'll probably bring my Birks and New Balance sneaks as well, just for variety. The most important thing is to find something that makes your feet smile. No cheapie Old Navy flip-flops!

Good Luck!

I alternate some of my fave Birks and Nike tennis shoes. I have bought a pair of Teva (I think) Elixirs, they are great. Wore them around on our trip to the zoo Sat. and they were great.

Wow I never thought that 4 pairs of shoes was a lot for a trip to WDW. I would be cutting it close if I only brought that many!

I second the opinion about bringing broken in shoes, especially for the kids.

We have good luck using spray-on anti-perspirant before putting on socks in the hot, humid weather.

Most of my family always wore trainers to the parks. (we needed them for the old rope drops, ha!) However, several years ago we got cought in one of those July monsoons. Our trainers (including my brand new $$ Sauconys) became so wet that they Never dried out and were ruined. Now, if it looks like rain at all, we all wear either Nike sport or Teva sandals during the day. Tes, we too often switch back to trainers at night because of the bugs.
Have a great time.

We leave today! FINALLY!!

I just bought my fourth pair of Ecco sandals, and I love them! If you can't find the famous Teva's then i say give Eccos a try, they are wonderful :flower: !

Keens, keens, keens!! My DH and I each just bought a pair and they are WONDERFUL. They have different styles, but they are like a combo sneaker/sandal. All styles are completely waterproof. A bit pricey though, and a little hard to find...

I'll be trying mine out at Disney in a week!! :flower:
