It's getting close to packing time,,,so my stupid questions are inevitable...

Obviously tennis shoes, but anybody have better luck with particular kinds? I only have my running shoes....should I get something else?

I actually wore light high top waterproof sneakers/ some might say "hiking boots" all last week. They are by Merrell. I found that they were excellent , comfortable, kept my feet and socks dry during the rain and I did not get any blisters.

They might be too heavy for warmer months though.

I like Easy Spirit sneakers because of the good padding. I also wear Nike Strap Runner sandals when it's hot or I think I might get wet. Mine are so comfortable that I can wear them all day long.

Tinkie, totally off topic, but are you getting your son's hair cut at the barbershop? Jake loved his haircut and the hair gel/pixie dust.

we go about 3-4x a year and I always wear the nikes as they are the most comfortable things on my feet..never got a blister, even if its cold wear them with socks.really looks dorky (my son makes fun of me) but they are the best I have found..used to were sneakers ,nikes, new balance and the straprunners are the only ones that I can go all day in and still feel great..marianne :wave2:

Since you will be walking miles and miles and miles every day .Take more than 1 pair/ So you change off every day. Keeps you from getting blisters on your blisters.

I wear Teva sandals. They are comfortable and waterproof (good for Kali River Rapids, and rainy days). I also bring sneakers.

I bring two pairs of shoes for everyone. It is amazing how soaked your feet get with just one rainy day!

Unless it is freezing cold you can't go wrong with Tevas! I wore them the whole trip in August - through all kinds of rain and wet rides and they dry off in a flash. DH had tennis shoes and it seemed like his shoes were always wet.

Tinkie,

How old is your son? I took mine alone when he was in K-garten and seeing that you are making a special Mom/son trip sure brings back sweet memories. My little boy is now almost 25, but in my mind's eye, I see a skinny little guy with big Mickey ears sitting in front of Spaceship Earth with a grin as wide as his ears.

Have a GREAT time!

What ever brand you choose please remember to break them in before the trip. It's nice to have pretty, bright-white new shoes for vacation, but if they aren't broken in, your feet will HURT!!!

Buy them early and just wear them around in the house if you want them to look "Brand new". Just make sure they are comfortable!!! You will be doing alot of walking!!!

I love my New Balance cross-trainers. They come in WIDE widths. I tried Tevas, but they did not fit my wide feet. I just carry flip flops in my backpack to put on for the water rides. I walk a lot at home, so I never have trouble with blisters in my sneakers.

I've always worn New Balance walking shoes but I'm going to have to check out these straprunners.....

Tip from my mom: Her feet swell after shes on them for awhile, so she packs a pair of her well worn and comfy Mickey flip flops in the bag we carry in, and whenever we stop to eat or for a show, she changes into them to let her feet breathe a bit and cool off. I think its a great idea, and those flip flops are light and easy to pack. Just a thought for those worrying about swollen feet or hot feet. =)

She does the parks ALOT and never leaves home without them =)

I have one question, haven't been to the World for many many years, and I keep wondering one thing....are there NO restrictions about closed toes for the rides???? I know here at home when we go to the local fair, one of the stipulations is that you have closed toe shoes for certain rides? Can somebody confirm that open toe sandals are okay? If that's the case, I'm running out to get a new pair of birks! My absolute favorite, and I'll still have time to break them in! :hyper:

My son wore flip flops the whole time about 3 years ago without any trouble getting on rides. He was fine, but I don't recommend it. I always wear Reebok Princess. No need to break them in because they are so soft and comfy already! I discovered them when we were actually on a trip one year and the shoes I brought got ruined. Went out and bought the Reebok princesses and wore them without getting a single blister or sore spot!

I always wear my Old Navy flip-flops, unless it's too cold, and then I'll wear my Land's End wool clogs. I find my sneakers are too hot/confining, especially later in the day when feet tend to swell.

There are no "open-toe" restrictions that I am aware of. Lots of people wear flip-flops/sandals.

You'll still need your sneakers, though. The straprunners are waterproof sandals. Ours are very comfortable and I can wear them all day without getting blisters. What I do if I'm back in the room during the afternoon is to wear the straprunners all day until I take my break and then change into the sneakers. My feet get too hot if I wear the sneakers all day (at least they do in the hot weather), but I like the cushioning in sneakers (I have foot problems). Try on Tevas and Straprunners and see which type you prefer. I've seen lots of positive comments about both on these boards.

I always bring 2 different pairs of tennis shoes & a pair of comfortable sandals. I always wear one pair in the morning & then make sure to change my shoes after our afternoon break at the resort. When I wear different shoes in the evening I tend to be more comfortable. (It's also great to have 2 pairs in case you get soaked - we walked all day in torrential downpours last December & the tennis shoes we wore that day were still wet 2 days later!) HTH!:)
