I'm a first timer visiting 6/3-6/9.... I see lots of rain in the forecast and understand I should pick up ponchos at Dollar Tree.

I have been breaking in my new "expensive" walking shoes and Ecco sandals, but won't want to get either wet... what shoes do you wear in the rain?

All I can suggest is wear somethig with rubber soles. I have seen people run in the rain, slip, and fall. One person I saw was wearing sandals with leather soles and hit their head on the pavement.

Also, in some parts of the parks, the water can get ankle deep in a downpour.

I always take 2 pair of tennis shoes. The older pair is my designated rainy day shoe wear. Also wear them when I'm planning on riding "wet" rides. I don't do the sandals for a couple of reasons. 1. No arch support, and as many hours as I am walking I don't want to have a problem with my feet! and 2. When some of the sandals get wet your foot can really slide around and off the sandal. Rather have sure footing!

Most sandals and flip flops are no good in the rain. Your foot will slide like mad. I always bring 2 pairs of sneakers on any trip. This way if one gets wet I have the other as a back up.

Remember going into the summer months it's likely to show rain everyday-- but it won't rain all day. Just shorter afternoon showers.

What about the now-famous Crocs in the rain?

Well, I'm planning to take my CROCS with me in a couple of days...partly for this very reason. I've only tried them in the rain here once, and they worked great...yeah, my feet got wet, but they dried pretty fast. The CROCS were designed for wet activities such as boating. There is a huge thread on the community board, "What CROCS did for me", where many people have attested to them in wet zones...pool decks, rain, even on ice.

Tevas are the best in the rain, Keens work well too, but I prefer Tevas. I wear them all the time at WDW, just be sure to put sunscreen on your feet for when its not raining!

Another vote for Keen's. The Newport is completely waterproof, and very comfortable. We used them on a cave hike we did a few months ago, through water several inches deep, along a rocky cave with its bottom covered with slippery mud. They not only kept us steady on our feet (as much as could be expected in a cave like that), but cleaned up afterwards, almost like new.

I wear my running shoes. They keep my feet dry and I don't slip in them.

So I just got some nile crocs for my trip. They are not exactly as amazing as I'd hoped - but still good.
Anyway, I was working out in the yard with them today and they, along with my feet got dirty. I was getting ready to take a shower and decided to hop in with the shoes on since I wanted to rinse them off as well. they appear to be great when wet - my foot didn't slide around at all. It felt very grippy.
I'm looking forward to having them on in the rain.

I vote for Keens!!

I bought my first pair of Keens for our August 2004 trip and I wore them everyday rain or shine. Love them. They were the first of many pairs of Keens for me!!

I actually bought my first pair of Tevas at WDW many years ago at Typhoon Lagoon. Over 10 years and many pairs later they are till my fav WDW shoe.

Tevas.
I did have on my Croc Niles on a rain day in April & did slip once, so they are not slip-proof. But not bad either.....

Another vote for Tevas. I just got back May 22nd from WDW. My Croc Niles gave me two small blisters on my left foot, so be careful with the Niles. I also slipped once with them. My Teva Pretty Rugged Leather sandals and Teva Mush flip flops were great all week though. Croc Beach model were just OK. My Tevas were much more comfortable and did better when wet.

Just had this very discussion with Dh last night!! We'll be bringing a pair of sneakers each, a pair of Crocs each and he has Nike Straprunners and I have Lands End sandals that are made to get wet. So, we usually wear our sneakers in the morning and then our sandals in the afternoon since that's the most likely time for rain!!
