What role do the CL's play in this mess?

This is probably going to cheese some people off, but since a CL brought it up, I'm gonna ask it.

I was just waiting in line for the Difficult maze. 45 minutes to get into the room. Walk in, go through the line, lose connection JUST as I was entering teleporter. Fun, no?

So as we were waiting in line, everyone else is discussing how many times they have lost connection, and how they hope they don't lose connection this time. Many of the people stating this were also "dancing" in the line. Based on my experience in some of the game rooms where dancing and magic are not allowed because they slow down the game, I said (truly trying to be helpful) "You have less chance of crashing if you don't dance. Dancing slows down everything."

To which a person behind me replied, "So do hippos" referring to the multiple hippo ponds the CL owner of the room had as we were waiting in line for the maze. The owner got upset and started berating the people in line. "Do you people know how hard we have all worked on this?"

A few people in line mumbled "Yes" "a lot"

CL replies "I just want to make sure you all know."

Well, the thing is, I DON'T know how hard the CL's have worked on this. I have some good friends who are CL's and they have never mentioned a word about having anything to do with the planning or execution of this, or of working on it in any way whatsoever. Aside from seeing a few mentions after the big CL pow-wow a month or so ago that they would be using the CL rooms to do this, I hadn't heard that any CL's had anything at all to do with the planning of this.

My understanding was that this was all pretty much organized and put together by the VMK staff. Are we now saying that the CL's helped plan this?
If so, how much? And do they shoulder some of the blame for how poorly it all turned out? Just curious, because we're pointing a lot of fingers at VMK staff and all cheesed off at them. If the CL's had some hand in it, they need to say so.

The cls basically built all the rooms you're walking through out of their own pockets. Along with monitoring people all day long and "trying" to help out. You ought to thank them. Staff is just giving out prizes.

Cls were given madame leota pin if they helped out also.

I am a CL and I did not attend nor was I asked to attend any such meeting a month ago.

I did not in any way shape or form help with this event. I did try and play (do)the mazes but sadly it was not to be.

If any CL's were and maybe they were asked to do these rooms or asked to help then all CL's should have been and also should have been informed and in on meeting to help with event. I speak for myself.

I was not.

I have read several posts today about CL's and their function and responsibility with this event. As far as I know the vast majority of CL's did not have a hand in this event.

I too was not contacted regarding this event in any way. I was just another angry participant waiting in line and getting bumped offline just like everyone else. :)

OK, this is sounding pretty much like what I thought originally was correct. (No real in put from CL's about event). I do certainly sympathize with the CL's who have spent their own credit to put together a room for this event and had it turn out so badly.

I was just curious whether the CL's had actually helped plan the event. It sounds like they were treated pretty much the way I treat my mules. "You go out, earn credits, buy stuff, build the space and I'll take it from there."

Most (me included) were asked or told nothing until we got that message a couple nights ago.

The owner of the room with the hippos was CL_Poseidon and he's been there since VMK opened with one bathroom break. He's a teenager. And to help out VMK he has been sitting there opening the turnstile every 15 seconds since 12 eastern.

Very few CL's were given the leota pin. Only those who were specifically asked to host entrances or some who helped at the end.

Other CL's were asked to be stationed at various places, some by other CL's whose rooms were used and such to help move people along.

Quiet honestly I have been thinking today of having VMK remove the CL befor Maltoo's name.

I do not want anyone thinking some of the things I have read today about CL's...how we are given special treatment, items, prizes and info.

How we helped run and plan this event.

etc etc.

I do not want to be associated with any of this and do not want my DIS friends thinking that I or any other DIS CL is treated any differently than any other player.

If a player helped with this event and also happens to be a CL that is just chance not the norm.

I just want to add in my knowledge (or lack of) as well. I am CL and have even told staff that I would always be happy to help at any time. I've never been to a impromptu meeting of any type and I wasn't asked to help in any way. I do have a friend who is CL and one of her rooms is part of the maze. I don't know how she was approached and ended up helping in that way. I suspect that as time goes on, and it becomes more known which CL's can and are able to help with these things that it will evolve. So far there are a few CL's that the staff have had a chance to get to know better and I believe those are probably the ones picked to help for things.

Long story short.. (I know, too late) Very few CL's helped and I doubt they had anything to do with any planning.

What message? I did not get any message a couple of nights ago and I play everyday!

I am with you, Mal. My son is a CL and has never received a message. At least one of the CL's that were helping today became a CL the same day he did, too. I don't know how this works at all. :confused3

I know this has nothing to do with this or maybe it does. But why are there community leaders? I mean if you want to help people you don't need a CL in front of your name or a pin.

But I believe SOME CL's not everyone of them only do it to feel superior.

But if you feel differently then do please tell why you need this badge and title in order to help people...

Not all the rooms were made by them,cl's were asked to make the romos because staff trust them..i think..

Of course you don't need a badge or title to help people. I thought it sounded like a neat program that VMK came up with and thats why I applied to participate. They do have a minimum criteria you meet in order to be a CL. Play time, clean record and knowledge of the game. There are of course lots and lots of people who qualify. I assume their intention is to provide some designated people who they have approved first that players can ask questions to. I see people helping all the time and some are CL, some are not. As with everything in this game its all new and things will naturally change and evolve as everyone learns what works and what doesn't.

To answer the question about the message. There was a message sent out to some leaders apparently. I didn't get it either, but I do have a copy of it to share.

I know people will cheese me - but I have to give my opinion. I do not think it is any of the CL's fault or VMK Staff. This is just an example that they did not realize the popularity of the site. This weekend is the first time I have seen that the number of people logged in has exceed 3000 ppl. It was just that they did not prepare for the demand. Sort of like at Christmas time when that one toy is so popular and they never have enough of. I have to admit I was dissappointed and had children who were dissappointed, but there is nothing I can do about - so why get upset and blame people.

Please Mal do not give up your CL. CL's do alot of good and give ppl stuff that is from their own collection. Nothing is given to them. They are people out there to help. If only we had more CL's in the real world.

Just my opinion. :earsgirl:

I agree. I never got any messages about meetings or anything of the sort. I also never received any messages a few nights ago. Personally, I think that the staff is being selective when it comes to asking CL's to do things. I've heard of meetings and such, but was never notified of anything. On top of that, I lost connection in the end room after making my way through the difficult maze. I was the only one in the difficult maze area for around 10 seconds till I lost connection. I re-entered the end room to make sure VMK_Babs had recorded my name, only to be booted before I could say which maze I finished. I couldn't enter ANY of the maze rooms for the rest of the night (I was booted at about 5:30, so I was not happy). I figure I wasted my time even trying.

How do I not get ANY of these messages?? :confused3 :confused3

In my humble opinion I think we all need to step back and take a break from all this. Everyone knows working with computers can be frustrating sometimes. We have all at one time or another had trouble with our own computers either at home or at work and it is very frustrating. And like another reader said the population has grown and it is starting to get crowded. Maybe VMK will learn from this experience and bring more servers on line to handle the growing population and the extra traffic for a big event like this. I'm not gonna touch the CL topic because I don't personally know any and all of my info comes from reading the threads.

In conclusion I have had very good experiences with VMK, it is a special place and I for one am not going to let one bad weekend get me so frustrated anymore. After being kicked out 15 times it was starting to get kinda funny!

I did receive the message the night before the event and was planning on finding a spot in one of the rooms to help out after I completed the 3 mazes. Unfortunately, I never was able to complete the 3 mazes. I spent over half the day yesterday trying to get through the difficult maze, which I finally did late in the day, and all day today trying to get through the medium maze which never happened.

I did sit at CL_CapeGirl's desk for a while when she was in the easy maze and offered to help out when the room owner (CL_Nedkah) had to leave for a moment, but I lost connection shortly after the room owner left and had no way to get back in.

I would have happily put together rooms for the event if they asked, but I too was never approached in the beginning.
