What rides can I just close my eyes for motion sickness?

I've read through a number of posts regarding motion sickness, and I am pretty sure I know which ones might bother me...my question is on which rides is closing your eyes an effective means of stopping the motion sensation, and hopefully feelings of sickness? A little background - I can do Soarin' but look away occasionally. Indy in DL (same track as Dinosaur) was not much of an issue. Don't plan on doing Star Tours ever again. Not a fan of rollercoasters, but survived BTMRR and SDMT. Don't like the teacups. TSM gives me a little dizzy feeling for a minute but no problems.
The rides I am questioning are - FOP, ROTR, MFSR, Remy, MMRR. The rest of my family will want to go on these, and I don't mind having to close my eyes if needed BUT I think sometimes continued motion with eyes closed for an extended time might not be a good solution?
Bonine and Dramamine make me so groggy I swear they make me dizzy before I even get on a ride. I plan to ask my doctor for the patch. Thanks in advance for any info!

I have very bad motion sickness on rides of all sorts. Had to close my eyes after a while on FOP and won’t go back. I focused on the background horizon as recommended, but still got ill. I’m queasy, but can manage MMRR (and Soarin’). On MFSW, I don’t look at the screen. I always ask to be an engineer and just push my buttons. Obviously this takes away from the experience. I’m not going on GoG as riding TOT made me very ill and GoG seems like it will have ups downs and spins. BTW, I used the patch on cruises in the past. It also makes me drowsy.
Good luck!

Your motion sickness seems to be similar to mine based on your description of the rides you've done. Screen rides are the worst. I don't know how you could really experience the rides with your eyes closed but I assume you just want to be with your family/group. I'm very near-sighted and I take my glasses off for FOP, MFSR, Remy & MMRR so I do get a gist of what's happening. I don't think I would get sick on those with my eyes closed. I ride ROTR with glasses on with no issues. If I'm ever on a ride and start to fell queasy, I just look away from the screen like you do. Hope this helps.

If you close you eyes on rides where you are stationary with one of those movie screens to simulate motion can be one solution. On moving rides where you are spinning or taking rapid turns, I don't believe closing your eyes will help. You balance is partly controlled by your inner ear that senses motion/movement. I think the best solution is to avoid rides that make you feel queasy.

I usually talk myself into “trying” rides, which usually leads to disaster (like Expedition Everest) but I’m definitely not getting on GoG. 🤪

Does the patch seem to work for you? I can deal with drowsy if I must but it would be nice if it felt like it was working! Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info! Hoping to not sit through an entire ride with my eyes closed, but knowing that I have the option to close my eyes if necessary would help me tolerate a bit more I think!

That is exactly what I am thinking...I do not know how much actual motion are on those rides since none of them were open last time we went. If I am being flung around with my eyes closed, it might actually be worse for me I think!

I can speak from first hand experience that closing your eyes will work on FOP! That one got me a little woozy but closing my eyes during the big drops on the screen did the trick! It did NOT work on GOG but I know that one wasn’t on your list. That ride ate me alive but I forgot my Bonine at home and couldn’t find any on property. None of the other rides on your list make me sick. Surprisingly, I was fine on both Remy and MSSR. With Remy, the screens alternate with you being moved through actual scenes (like Pirates) which I think made all the difference. You are more or less stationary during the screen part so closing your eyes should work, but I didn’t need to. On MSSR, I think being the engineer or gunner helps. Preferably the engineer because you can just stare at buttons and wait for them to light up and not look at the screen. And you are farthest away from the screen at that position too. I think the only time I felt a little queasy was when I was pilot with one of my sons and it was not a smooth ride! 😆 I have had success eating a good-sized meal before those type of rides too. I read that carbs help and astronauts recommend a banana before to help with potential motion sickness. Good luck! I can take or leave FOP and MSSR but the others on your list are top notch so you should definitely give them a try! ROTR doesn’t bother at all either. I don’t think it really spins much at all. I would compare it more to Dinosaur/Indy but less jerky and very minimal screens.

Closing my eyes did not work for me on FOP. I got horribly motion sick. It pretty much ruined our day. Closing eyes does generally work for me on anything with a screen or 3d. So Remy, MMRR, parts of ROTR, parts of Smugglers Run. I won’t even try GOTG. I close my eyes for parts of Soarin. I think the problem with FOP is I was strapped down on that moving vibrating thing. Longest few minutes of my life!

I’ve only used it on cruises. I’m still queasy, but can usually manage, but I have been full on motion sickness in rough conditions.

Yeah unfortunately First Aid at the parks only stocks Dramamine as do the shops. I take Bonine because it lets me get on anything without problems but it doesn't zonk me out the way Dramamine does. On one AK morning I couldn't find it in my backpack though so I had to do without. Met some local friends for breakfast at Tusker House after I did FoP and had to stop at First Aid before our ADR because I got queasy. All they had was Dramamine and even just taking half the pill made me sleepy.

I close my eyes off and on on Remy. There is one part of MMRR I have to close my eyes and one part of ROTR. I do ok on those if i close my eyes when the motion starts, I know what makes me sick. I wont try FOP, MFSR or GOG, not worth it to feel sick. I cant do things wooshing by me or lots of quick movement, cant do flying through space.

I took on ROTR and I was surprised I did quite well. There was one section that I had to look at the floor for a bit to keep my bearings, but overall it was a lot of fun.

I've never tried FoP but the family says based on me not being able to do Star Tours that I shouldn't try.

Rise of the Resistance was fine for me.

Millenium Falcon is fine so long as I only glance at the screen and choose the engineer position. DH likes to pilot, so we do request pilot sometimes because as a group of 2, we always seemed to only get engineer as a fill in. When we get pilot, I volunteer my spot to someone else in the group which last time was a young man from the UK who was THRILLED to pilot the MF. It was fun to spread some Pixie Dust.

Remy = NEVER AGAIN even though....

MMRR had only one minor hiccup when they "go over the falls."

And Guardians...I had no problems with nausea although I was dizzy for a bit. I just sat on the benches at the exit until it passed and used the elevator instead of the stairs when we exited.

I, too, have bad motion sickness and can't/don't ride many things. I love BTMRR but can only go ONCE- no repeat rides for me- and while I like Soarin' there are spots where I have to look away. I also have to be very careful on TSMM as I can get briefly queasy when the car swirls around corners between the different games. I ALWAYS take Bonine every day while at WDW; I wouldn't be able to manage the buses and trams without it. I have found that if I take it when I go to bed (around midnight) I am less sleepy during the day.

Of the rides on your list, I've done MMRR and FOP. For MMRR, I do pretty OK although I have to close my eyes in one scene, where we are going over a waterfall. For FOP? Nope, nada, no way. I've ridden it twice to keep DD company. She's an adult, but after standing in line and taking Bonine I though I'd give it a try. Nope. Second time, I had taken Bonine AND had a scope patch and it was still disastrous. I had to hunker down with my eyes closed and focus on feeling the breeze on my face. I opened my eyes twice when the vehicles stopped moving, and while the display was amazing, the minute we started moving again, I slammed my eyes shut. SO... I guess you can ride FOP with your eyes closed as it didn't make me sick for the rest of the day, but it wasn't a fun experience. Oddly enough, the ONE time I tried Mission Space (green, of course) it wasn't too bad; I only had to close my eyes for a bit at the end.

I have bad motion sickness with the screen rides and am definitely nervous about some of the new ones I’ll be experiencing next month (GOTG and Remy) but, when I went on FOP in 2018, I closed my eyes for a few portions after feeling nauseous and managed to make it off okay!

Agree, I can do all of the smaller coasters, no problem on Soarin or Toy Story mania. FOP was the worst experience of my entire life however. Realized I was in trouble at the very beginning, tried closing my eyes which made it almost worse. For the rest of the time tried looking down below the screen at the floor, and was miserable for about an hour afterwards.
