The "Mistakes" thread has me wondering what rides might be too scary for my daughter who is six. I already know the roller coasters are out for her but what els should we be careful of?

Your best bet is to go on youtube and search for videos of each ride you're unsure of. My kiddos are all over as far as what they find scary. DD3 loves Haunted Mansion, DS10 hates it but loves Rockin' Roller Coaster. DS6 loves Pirates, DD3 can't stand the drop and darkness at the beginning. Kids are funny.:)

If you have a child that doesn't like the dark I'd beware of the following rides:

Dinosaur!
Expedition Everest
Tough to Be a Bug (for sure!)
Haunted Mansion
Tower of Terror

My DS (then 5) laughed on the Tower of Terror, went on Expedition Everest 3 times in a row, but couldn't get out of Tough to Be a Bug fast enough. So really, it's going to depend on the personality of the child.

It probably would help to check uTube out just to get an idea of the ride but sometimes you have to just try things out.

Good luck and I hope you have a safe a magical trip! :mickeyjum

On our first trip my DD was just turned 6 years old. There was nothing that she couldn't or wouldn't do. She loved (and did) it all! Don't assume your DD will be scared. If you maintain a level of excitement and don't even give her the idea that she should or could be scared, you might be surprised by what she wants to do!

If she does wind up on something that upsets her, just bring her to a cute show afterwards. Oddly the Haunted Mansion was the only ride to bother her......a quick trip on It's a Small World cured her and then she was happy to redo HM without a hitch.

And don't rule out the roller coasters! When she was 6 and her sister was 7 these were my DDs favourites at Disney and now that they are 10 and 12, there is no holding them back! We did Sheikra in Busch Gardens 2 years ago when they were only 8 and 10, and though all I could hear were the screams while riding, when we were done it was "let's do it again!"

This year we are doing only WDW and Busch Gardens after doing Universal for a couple of years. My two DDs are underwhelmed by WDWs coaster offerings.:confused3 They are truly adrenaline junkies.....I am proud to say, they take after their Mom!!!:thumbsup2

Ditto to that! Last fall my son was 5 and had never been anywhere except Busch Gardens when he was 2, so he doesn't really remember a whole lot. When we got to Disney I was really unsure of how he would react to the rides! He hates the dark but he LOVES Stitch so it was no problem getting him to go into the Stitch ride. BUT when the lights went out I felt him stiffen up beside me. I just took his hand and in the beginning had to remind him that Stitch was a good guy! He ended up loving it and wanting to do it again.

Thunder Mountain was his first ever roller coaster. We had about a 10-15 minute wait to get on so plenty of time to watch it. He loved watching it and was bouncing around all excited but as we were next at the gate to get on he became uneasy. (Told me his stomach hurt). I told him we were next, too late to turn back and it would be fun I promised. We got in and again he was still going up that first dark hill and I just scooted closer to him and put my arm around him. That first little drop he yelled WOOOOOOO louder than anyone else on the ride and laughed hysterically the entire ride and now LOVES all roller coasters.

The ONLY thing he absolutely refused to do in all of Disney (that he was able to ride anyway, he's short too!) was the Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain. He said he will ride Splash Mountain this year and Haunted Mansion is maybe. (We'll see! I may football carry him onto it :hyper:) This year he will be tall enough for Space Mountain too, yay!

So yeah, long story short..its all kid dependent. My only suggestion is don't push too hard, but don't give in to a no too easily either!

I entirely agree, my daughter who is almost 6, LOVED all that you mentioned but completely lost it in Tough to be a Bug, so much so that we had to make an early exit.
