What ride freaked you out as a kid?

Another didn't go till I was in my 30s.

My daughter didn't like the TOT. Oh wait, that was because we went too soon after eating and she felt ill.

Next we will wait longer after eating before this ride.

I have to admit that I was scared on Haunted Mansion and to this day still get chills. :guilty:

I screamed the whole way through the haunted mansion at 7. It only took me years to realize it wasn't a spooky haunted house.

Now I'm afraid of the carousel, I get motion sick anytime I ride one! Ironically I can ride RockRC 8 times in a row with no problems. :rotfl2:

One trip, when my daughter was about 2, we went to the Magic Kingdom with my grandparents who had just recently moved to Florida. We did all the "calm" rides since my grandparents were a bit older and my daughter was so little. When we went on IASM, our boat got stopped in the ride. My daughter couldn't stand the singing any longer and threw a HUGE temper tantrum! She was screaming for the "kids to shut up and stop singing" at the top of her lungs! She is almost 18 and still doesn't like IASM. God Bless, my grandparents are still living and it's one of our favorite stories to this day!!!!

My first and only trip was in 1986. I was 8 years old. I recall Ridng Mr Toads Wild Wild Ride (now a pooh ride) and while I was waiting in line, I saw some devils popping up at the end of the ride. I was sooo afraid of those devils so when I finally got on I covered my eyes the whole time to avoid seeing those devils. I was perfectly fine on the Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain though - not scared at all. Weird, Huh? LOL. But know I'll never get to truly experience Mr Toads Wild Wild Ride. I guess I could go to Disneyland, but I don't know when I can make that trip.

On my first trip I was 6, and in order to get me on Space Mountain my parents told me it was a slow ride (nice, huh?!). Well, it wasn't lol, and I bawled like crazy the entire time. I remember begging to get off, I was so scared. It made me afraid to ride roller coasters for several years. Finally at age 13 I went to Cedar Point, and I was just sick of being afraid. So I rode the Magnum, which has a huge drop. I was petrified in the line, but, I LOVED it! I've been a coaster fan ever since. I love SM and even more, RnR!!

Also on that first trip, I didn't cry, but Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion really freaked me out. I had bad dreams about her for a long time. I'm still not a fan of disembodied heads, but I like her. The Mansion is my fav. ride!

Fun thread. :)

Here you go... I was 5 years old, went to Disneyland with my famly who met up with people they knew in California...

I ended up sitting with my Dad's friend (in his lap) - too small for the ride to sit alone (this was before they had the 44" high rule)...
The Mattahorn :scared:

I freaked out, screamed my head off.. my Dad's friend did not go near me the rest of the day. Mind you, my Dad's friend was a gentleman - no touching, if you know what I mean - the roller coaster, my first one in my life - scared the living #### out of me.

I have never ridden a roller coaster since the dreaded Mattahorn in Disneyland !

None. Of course, I was 29 the first time I went to Disney... the only Orlando attraction I've ridden that I don't need to bother again is Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure. Once was enough - although being the ONLY person on the entire attraction might have had something to do with that...

I wasn't afraid of the Witch in Snow White, but the tree that leaned over towards your car totally wigged me out. This was in the early '70s.

20,000 Leagues for me. I was about 9 and sitting next to a great big guy who was squishing me. He was all hot and sweaty and didn't smell very pleasant.

You know, I don't remember anything really freaking me out as a kid. I think I was a little afraid of BTMRR when I first went on it but not terrified. However, TOT freaked me out as an adult and although I know it is a cool ride, I don't like free fall rides.

No one has said mine. It's tough to be a bug. Before we went in two ladies told me that a young girl had started crying about my age (4) last time. Thinking that I would not get scared I got on. Not only did I not have my glasses on but I was sitting in my mother's lap crying. Finnally I felt o.k. enough to sit in my own chair. When I did they said to let all the bugs to first. When they started poking me I flipped out. I still will not go on it.

I can't remember ever being really freaked out as a kid except for...
Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland
I don't know how old I was when I was scared but I know the first time I went was when I was 2-3, so this very well could be the earliest childhood memory I have. :rotfl:

Now of course its my favorite ride at the park! pirate:

AS a plus its soon to be the new home of my favorite pirate

IMO there's nothing scary about that! :lovestruc

PofC.

From the beginning of the queue, through the dungeon-y areas :scared1: until right after the drop & you were in the the middle of the battle scene.

They STOPPED the Tiki Show because of my shrieking when I was 2 years old. It scared the be-jeebees out of me. I still remember how terrified I was.

I love that picture of Britney in your sig!

When I was little I just refused to ride ANYTHING except for IASM.
When I was a little older, I remember when I went on the Snow White ride, it was awful! and I haven't been on it since.

Yeah me too, and at the end you went to a place with devils. What were they thinking? :confused3
I was actually quite disappointed when, the second time I visited WDW and Mr Toad was still there, that scene wasn't in it anymore. I loved it! :rotfl:

What scared me as a kid was the Norway ride. I was forced to take a picture with a big, carved troll in the gift shop afterwards. I was not happy.

That's the only thing I remember scaring me. I wasn't scared of HM or POC. :confused3

Today... I am scared of DINOSAUR! :earseek:

20K Leagues...big time!!! I hated when you cruised by the circling sharks, and the squid attack...yikes!!! Still, I went on it every visit to WDW, I just sat back a bit during the scary parts!

My list is long and embarrassing- although to be fair my parents starting taking me to WDW as an infant so that could have something to do with it. Also I'd to state for the record that I currently will go everything except Rockin Roller Coaster and TOT- I don't like drops or being turned upside down. So here is the list:
-Dumbo (the hight scared me)
-POC (the drop)
-Space Mountain (roller coaster)
-Snow White (terrified me for years!)
-BTMRR (I did conquer this ride when I was 11)
-Astro Orbiter (the height)
-Norway (the drop)

I like this thread- its kind of theropeutic!

I was actually petrified of the Haunted Mansion, only the pre-show though, once I got on the ride I was just fine. You know, the part on the elevator where the lights go out and a voice shrieks and you look up and that guy is hanging?

I hated that part!

When my brother was five, as soon as we walked through the entrance gates and onto main street, one of those old-time cars that used to drive up and down main street happened to backfire. Well, he was done for the day. He was suspicious of every little thing we tried to get him to do. Every loud noise..."Was that a backfire?" My mom had to take him to the car so my dad and I could stay and watch the fireworks. That would have sent him over the edge!

He'll be turning 20 in a few weeks, and we still laugh at that story to this day. And, he has been to Disney several times since, so no permanent damage was done!
