A lot of the big chains mentioned in this thread declared Chapter 11 and then heavily reduced their locations - like Baker's Square and Marie Callender's. Sizzler is another chain that severely cut back on locations after Chapter 11.

And one place I went to a lot in my childhood was Edy's Restaurant in Berkeley, California. It was named after Joseph Edy, who with William Dreyer started an ice cream business. This is the only photo I could find of the exterior - and it was taken during the 60s when the California National Guard was sent into Berkeley during protests:
