What resorts would you not return to and why?

Here's a new one - the GF!

We spent our wedding night there and it was the worst experience ever! We had a honeymoon conceirge room with a castle view. The view was the only good thing.

We got to our room around dinner time (after wedding) and there was a maintainence man working on our door with the lock in pieces. We explained that was our room and he asked us to come back later. We told him no, our things were in the room and we had 1 hour to get ready & change for our dessert party that night. So, he put the door back together and told us he'd fix it later that evening - but once we left the room, we'd not get back in with our key cards until he fixed it. Fine.

We get back from our dessert party around midnight, totally exhausted. Walk past concierge, and get all the way down to the room (long hike), the door won't open. I was crying and sitting in the hallway. Very tired and now really upset. We go all the way back to the concierge - "oh, yes, we are moving you." WHAT? It's midnight on our honeymoon!!! AND we just walked by you! My DH says no you are not moving us - that's our room and we are exhausted. Our things are all out all over the room. Finally, concierge guy gets a master key and lets us in room. Fine.

Half hour later, phone rings. Concierge is calling to tell us not to leave room, we won't get back in. A bit later, phone rings again, he says also, you cannot charge to room since keys don't work. WHATEVER - just leave us alone!

Next morning, we can't leave to get breakfast and I was not about to spend a penny on room service since we could not leave the room together. I ended up eating cereal from the in-room fridge (happy honeymoon).

Finally, I decided to relax in the whirlpool tub. While I am soaking away - someone tries to open our door. Mind you, the do not disturb sign was still on door handle. The only reason they did not get in was that the safety lock thing stopped the door!
My Dh runs and shuts the door. They call now, wanting to know if they can fix the door. NO.

Now, since someone tried to bust down the door, the lock is making this beep-beep-beeping noise non-stop. Very annoying. But again we are trying to enjoy our morning and view of the castle. Phone rings. Concierge says people are complaining that our lock is beeping. Yup - it is, thanks - hang up. Phone rings later - can we fix your lock? NO - we are leaving in 2 hours, pls. leave us alone!!! Then they call again later wanting to fix our safe. NO!!!

As we checked out that day, I was in tears at the front desk. I asked if I could have the GF manager's address - the real address. I told her I did not want the PO Box 10,000 addy. That's what she proceeded to give me anyway. She then just got the manager on duty, without me asking for him. He was a total waste of time! I explained all this. He simply said it would not happen again and offered to move our bags to our next resort. I told him that he would lose them, thanks.

Because of this, I cannot justify ever staying there again. And to think we almost splurged and stayed there for the whole week! I just find that resort very snotty and have heard same from many people. This was in Nov. 1999 and I still get very upset about that stay. Can you tell? :D

We have stayed at ASSP, ASMu, PC, AKL, BCV, BWV, OKW, CBR, CSR, POFQ, POR, WL and Poly and I would stay at any of those resorts again.

We have stayed at: CBR (around '91 I think), Dixie Landings, WL, CR, BCV, AS Sports, and ASMu.

The only we didn't like was AS Sports, the check in was great, good value, but we just didn't care for the theming, and though the rooms were blah. Oh, the toilets and water were really loud too. After reading the problems other people have had at some resorts, I can see we've been really fortunate.

The CM who checked us in at CR was snotty-- oh, you're one of the Shades of Green people, I see. Like we didn't really belong there. But the kids and dh loved the resort.

Julie- I would have backed down that CM in a hurry. "Excuse me? What did you just say?" I have no time for people working there that aren't suited for Disney- too many people vying for the jobs to put up with that crap. We pay way too much money to have a dent put in a vacation by an employee better suited to another job. Anyways....

POP- I hate it, hate it, hate it!!!

The interesting thing I have found about this thread so far are the resorts that are MISSING. You could figure out a pretty ideal place to stay just by looking for what isn't here :))

Blessings

I've only stayed at ASMu, AKL, Poly, WL, BWV & BCV so far and I wouldn't refuse to stay at either of them again. I stayed at ASMu first and I've yet to stay at a moderate. I'd prefer not to stay at a value again, but would if I had to.

Since my kids are getting older, we probably won't be staying at the value resorts anymore. The AS resorts' decor seem more attractive to younger kids (like the big Buzz and Woody at ASMovies) so we're more apt to stay at a moderate or deluxe resort.

Kristi1357 ~ That's awful and on your honeymoon no less! Seems to me there was no excuse for that. I'm so sorry that is part of your honeymoon memories.

We have stayed there as a family before and really loved it. I guess it depends on the people in charge at the time. I can't imagine what they were thinking:eek: !

I would stay at ANY WDW resort again. My family has stayed at:
ASSports, ASMusic, ASMovies, Pop Century, POFQ, the Poly, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge, Swan, Dolphin. Sure, we (my family of 4) all have our favorites but we really like them all.

We are not real picky people, and again, each family member has a "favorite" but overall, we like them all (for different reasons) and have no major issues.

CBR - Never again!

First, check-in took forever. Then, when we got to our rooms, there was a musty smell with large portable fans blowing on the floor. Then I realized why, carpets were soaking wet! DH and DS had already unloaded much of our luggage, cooler, etc... from Suburan and were on the way to room. Had to turn around, reload vehicle and go back to check-in. About 40 minutes later, well over an hour after we arrived, we were finally given another room on the other side of the resort. Needless to say, no one was felt the "Magic" that first day!

Also, the resort is H-U-G-E and poorly laid out. Did not realize until we got there that we would have to take a bus just to get to the food court, theme pool and resort store! We appreciate being able to take buses to the parks, but to lunch and dinner???

Theme pool was also small and not up to the standards we have become accustomed to at the other resorts.

CBR is definitely our LEAST favorite of all the resorts in which we have stayed.

Really don't want to jump on a negative thread, but just to let anyone know who is planning a trip... we did not like CSR at all. It was so spread out and such a long bus ride to every park except AK and BB. There is no Disney theming. The resort itself is beautiful and the pool is great but it is so far away most rooms. If you are close to the pool, you are too far away from the lobby. You can't win there if you're tired after walking all day in the parks. I gather it is similar in size to CBR from other posters on this thread. Double beds are not great. The outside corridors make you feel as if you're in a super 8. And check in took forever!:sad2:

That's exactly how we feel, too. We stayed in ASMo the second week of June and found that we were cramped just a little too much. Definitely not enough room for me, DH and two DS's (6 & 8).

We're planning another trip in two years and have decided to stay at the Comtemporary. This is after four trips staying at the AS resorts so we can't wait to "upgrade"!

They have yet to build a WDW resort (and we have stayed in them all, with the exception of GF); that we would not gladly stay at again--- anyday of the week!
Do we have our resort preferences? Of course we do!!! But Disney has yet to build a resort that I can say we would never stay at again.
Anyday at WDW in one of their resorts is a lot more magical than a day at work!!! And I am someone that really likes my job!!

I have to say I must be the luckiest person alive. I have NEVER waited more than 5 minutes for check-in, most times my room is ready, if not it's because it's before 11:00 am!

I don't despise any resort, but would probably bypass the values if I had to choose. We love CSR and WL. AKL and BW were both very nice, but not our faves.

I aim to try all the resorts eventually, including the campground, despite reading threads like this!

Probably the resort I am least looking forward to is CBR.

kids got eaten up by bugs and refused to go in the pool

Although I love AKL, I too have gotten eaten up near the pool by bugs. Maybe they can't spray because of the animals? Anyone know?

Hmmmm.... this is a tough one... where would i NOT stay again... Well.. actually... the Boardwalk... it just felt too "hotelish" for me... nothing about the service or the room.. just a personal preference.. I felt the same way about the yacht club.... I loved the Poly....and AKL.... due to outstanding CM's.... as well as the WL... it was a wonderful experience.... I enjoyed POR... and am booked to stay my next trip at POFQ... for part.. and then WL.. or The Dolphin ..... I have to say that I loved the Swan during one of my last trips.... the location...the BEDS!!! .... but I felt that I wanted to stay at the Dolphin instead because as a solo traveler it had more to offer.... so.. that is where I MAY stay this trip... I just have to justify the extra $50 per night... which I could use towards staying concierge at the WL???Hmmmmm.. what to do!! LOL!! I have never stayed at a Value resort... I am sure if I was taking kids with me.. I may consider it.. but with my AP.. the rates at the mods... and even deluxes make it hard to go with the Values... although.. if I had to pick one value.. I would definitely pick POP to stay at.....

I stayed in the CBR in May, and once was enough for me! Everyone that has said how spread out it is couldn't be more Right!! I hated the fact that we couldn't just walk right into the main pool and the food court. Had to wait on a bus. Plus we were on the 2nd floor and there wasn't any elevators. It is not fun dragging heavy luggage up stairs. The whole atmosphere just didn't do it for me. The outside of the building even appeared dirty to me!
I would gladly stay at the Dolphin or the ASMo again, but definitely not CBR.
I think we will also steer clear of GF after Kristi1357's story. It may be nice, but I am not going to take any chances after spending so much money. We also got married Nov. 1999 and if we had had such a terrible experience there, it would have put a damper on everything. So sorry it happened to you Kristi1357!
I think we are going to stay at least one night at the BW next trip. We have heard more good reviews than bad.

More than likely, I wouldn't go back to CBR. Stayed there for half of our honeymoon stay.

Reasons for not returning:

1. Too spread out. An eight minute walk to food court and eight minutes back to our room. 16 minutes just for food or to refill our mugs seemed rediculous!

2. The fireworks from Epcot made the walls in our room shake! Too loud. (Stayed in Aurba building.)

3. Wasn't impressed with food offerings at food court. I prefer POFQ's food court.

All Star Sports (the only All Stars I've ever stayed at, but I wouldn't stay at any of the values for all the same reasons). I didn't like the theming, it's too loud for me. I also don't like the size, they are just too big for my tastes. I also can't sleep with my DH in a double bed. I prefer interior corridors, and like having a balcony so you can get fresh air while still having privacy. I also want more dining choice at my resort. Also the large number of school groups which just seem to "takeover" at those resorts.

The last time I stayed st Sports we had a lot of problems with the front desk and housekeeping that just weren't resloved to my satisfaction, that's when I said "never again".

Riverside -- WAY too spread out for my taste. Bad experiences with CM's from the front desk to Mousekeeping.
and the CM wouldn't take our luggage to store.

Ditto on the Riverside. Dirty and unkept. Needed refurb. CMs in some areas not wanting to do their job -- like take our luggage, while they are leaning against the building do nothing..... And that was late afternoon check in. Terrible bus service. I hope everything has improved there, and I am sure it has.

But luckily we don't have to stay in any WDW resort now. :jester: :hyper: :teeth: ::yes::

CSR- just to spread out for me
AKL, to dark in the room I couldn't even tweeze my eyebrows there :D
