I had to choose "Other": We're Pantheists.

Wikipedia said:
Pantheism is the view that everything is of an all-encompassing immanent abstract God; or that the Universe, or nature, and God are equivalent. More detailed definitions tend to emphasize the idea that natural law, existence, and the Universe (the sum total of all that is, was, and shall be) is represented in the theological principle of an abstract 'god' rather than a personal, creative deity or deities of any kind. ... What is good and evil isn't the mandate of something outside of us, but as a result of the way we are all interconnected. Instead of good choices being based on fear of divine punishment, it comes from a mutual respect from all things.

um, none of the above?

i believe that jesus christ was the son of god, and i accept him as my personal saviour-but i don't discount that he may have appeared in different incarnations to others (my god is too intellegent not to realize that what we believe to be the physical attributes of jesus would not have been readily acceptable over the world's history to all people, let alone in other worlds yet unknown to us).

i believe in the basic teachings of the bible, but am not a biblicist-the bible was written by man, not god personaly (i'm waiting for the unabridged/unedited 'producer's cut' :) ). therefore i also look to other non christian religious writings-and often find much common ground.

i'm not a church attender. i have an issue with man placing rules upon how, when, and where i worship, and esp. departmentalizing worship into groups that more often than not negativly judge the worship practices of 'non members' by virtue of their 'non membership'. i do not require an intermediary (priest or pastor) to speak to god on my behalf, nor do i believe that god hears a group prayer any more effectivly or quickly than an individual.

i activly pray, but for the most part, i believe that god is knowing and aware of all aspects of my life and will intervene as he sees fit.

I'm culturally Catholic and still attend Mass on a regular basis although to be honest I'm not sure what I believe. I waiver a lot. I go to Mass because it gives me serenity, but I'm not sure how much of that is actualy from a sprituality standpoint and how much is just ritual and familiarity.

I'm Catholic. I've wandered around a bit over the years and experiemented with some other traditions, but I always come "home". It's where I feel closest to God, it gives me peace and it helps me navigate the world around me in a meaningful way.

I think religion is an intensely personal decision, but I still love to read about how people came to the path they are on.

I belong to the "you don't try and convert me and I won't try and convert you" club. I'm not God, and I'm certianly not in a positition to judge anyone else's journey.

I'm an ethnic Mormon. Family history goes back to the 1850's, the great pioneer emigration from England to Utah. 5x Great Grandfather had 7 wives. He was imprisoned in the 1890's when plural marriage was made illegal.

I'm Lutheran (LCMS) by denomination. However, I'm beginning to see less and less of denominations and see myself as a Christian first and foremost.

Me, too. I am part of a church, but I voted "other". Lots of Christians probably will, too, which may mess with your poll results.

I have nothing against these polls; I find the religious mix on the DIS interesting, too. However, "Catholic Christian", "Non-Catholic Christian", and "Christian other (please explain)" would be better options for future polls asking about religions. That's just an FYI for everyone and not specifically this poll poster. "Baptist", "Lutheran", "Catholic", "Methodist", etc., are not actual religions, but denominations within the same religion (except for the most fundamental groups who think they are "the only real Christians").

Practicing and proud Roman Catholic by upbringing (all extended family is Catholic but my parents drifted away by the time I was born and growing up) and then by choice as an adult. Baptised, First Communion and Confirmation as an adult.

Also, went to Catholic primoary school (first to sixth grade).

I voted athiest, but I have one toe pointed towards agnostic. I'm happy that way and do not intend to change. :snooty:

I'm nothing. I believe in a god sort of like what bicker describes, abstract--but not one that interferes with or talks to us.

I'm a Christian :)

I was baptized on 9/29/07 and we attend a non-denominational Christian church.

I was born and raised a Catholic.

However I don't believe/agree with all that they teach (birth control, priest not being able to get married, etc.).

Truthfully, with all of the crap that goes on in the world, and when times are tough, I don't believe there is a God.

But then, when I look at the world, I know in my heart how can there not be?

This poll has raised a question for me.

I always thought that if you weren't a Roman Catholic but were a Christian, then you were a Protestant (and there are many Protestant denominations). I don't mean to offend anyone, really. I just want clarification.

Is this not correct? The poll choices (having Protestant listed as well as Baptist, Methodist and Lutheran for example) are what got me wondering.

Thanks.

Yes, those you mentioned do fall under the Protestant umbrella.
