I understand what you mean, but not all Baptist churches have given in to this kind of style.
.

What you're describing isn't really Baptist, but the Word of Faith Movement - Joel Osteen's Lakewood church in Houston, John Hagee's Cornerstone Church here in San Antonio (just down the road from me), Ted Haggard's New Life church in Colorado - mega churches.

I am a Christian in the Presbyterian Church - PCUSA.

we do not believe in the Trinity, and we do not believe that God and Jesus are the same person.

And that is what seperates you from the majority of Christians who have answered this poll.

Christian. - I attend a non-denominational Christian church but was raised Catholic (RC).

Hmmmm, I don't really have a title for what I am! Universalist, maybe! Although my family has a strong Christian background and I converted to Judaism 16 years ago, I have studied soooo many faiths and spiritual practices; everything from Christianity, Buddhism, Islam to Wicca and Huna, and so much more! After several years of work, I am a close to finishing Doctorates in Divinity and Metaphysics and I am actually a minister in a Metaphysical/Spiritual church where we explore and honor all paths. They call it non-denominational, but I think multi-denominational is more accurate.

There is a quote by one of my mentors, Master Ho (not Chinese, just a hilarious sense of humor)...."Religion is what tears us apart. Spirituality is what brings us together." Of course, this isn't meant as an affront to all religion, just the way that some use it against others. People who are truly spiritual, no matter what their religion, are the ones who are at peace and can help create peace for the planet.

I love that the DIS is so DIverSe!!! You guys rock!!

Shema Yisrael, Adonai alohenu, Adonai Echad

Judaism is my religion
Isn't that translated as, "Hear O Isreal, the Lord our God, the Lord is one."??

I, too, am Southern Baptist. I agree with you. I do not agree with the above types of churches. I am thankful to be in a wonderful church. Our preacher stays to preaching THE WORD. I agree with you that worship is led by The Spirit, not a rehearsed show. I went to a big, well-known conference a few months ago. The speakers are very well-known Christian "speakers." I paid a big ticket price, IMO, to be there. **That should have been my first red flag! *** Well, the entire time I was there I was realizing that it was just a big show. You could tell they had rehearsed what they were saying, and they were performing. I was so disappointed! What if the Lord had led them to a different verse, a different topic? I don't believe that they would have changed their words at all. I am not sure that they could have even heard Him! I told my DH that I will not be going again. I want to be fed THE WORD and worship in Spirit. I agree that I do not want a show.

Great post! Sad situation, isn't it?

Christian-baptized,confirmed and married in Methodist but switched to Congregational few years ago when our church was torn down to make condos. We are looking for a new church to attend because ours has become too fanatical. I feel it is too conservative and cult like to go back. I hope we find one soon!!I love mys sisters church but it is an hour away in NH.

Hmmm... I must confess ingorance about this as well. Not sure where I got this from, but I was under the impression that JWs rejected the divinity of Jesus. :confused3 Guess I'm off to do some research so that my ignorance may diminish :goodvibes
I am also confused. a family friend is JW and although she believes Jesus existed she does not know him as Christ and does not consider him to be her Lord and savior.Since that is really what it means to be Christian I would not consider JW to be a Christian faith. I am always willing to learn more so if someone can explain please do.

Voted Agnostic

I can't believe somebody felt it was necessary to use this thread to take shots at JW. :rolleyes1

Raised Catholic.

I have no idea what I am now, and to be honest, I don't really think about it that much.

Maybe it will become important to me at a later time, but it isn't right now.

Hey Steven  just curious where you WERE going?? You can use initials if you want - I'll figure it out. Born and raised Southern Baptist here too, and I'm just wondering - no flames, I promise!

I wonder if it's the same one my friends went to awhile back. She said the same thing. In fact, she got up and walked out.

Hello

Call me ignorant, but I am curious! Can you explain a bit more what SAP is?

Google is your friend.

Anyways, i'm glad to see that a lot of us are Christians. God Bless 76% + (whoever isn't offended by it.)

Peace

Agnostic. I am open to the possibility that God exists, but I think religion is a bunch of nonsense that has hindered the moral development of the human race much more than it's helped.

Christian, as in a follower of Christ 1st and foremost. Called to the Catholic faith and baptized when I was 20 years old at the Easter Vigil, coming up on my 28 year anniversary.
