What psychology of mk do you know about?

This may have been posted already but at the risk that it has been, there is a wave machine under water in the Seven Seas Lagoon, offshore by the Polynesian Resort, that created waves artificially. It worked too well. It was so powerfull that it also erroded the beaches at the MK Resorts. Good intentions, bad execution.

When you are at the MK check out the sign at the Columbia Harbour House. Take out a $1 bill and note the difference between the eagle on the dollar and the sign. The difference indicates the country was at war during that time period. If you can't wait until you are in the park use the link below.

The Great Seal of the United States, or any portion is only allowed to be used officially by the Government.

Many times you will see the Eagle from the great seal facing toward the arrows instead of the olive branches this way the user is not using the official seal and no laws have been brokern. If the actual seal is used without specific government authority then legal action can be taken, I think Disney reversed the seal so as to avoid litigation, not represent that the country was a war.

But I don't know this one for sure, you might be correct.

This has to be my favorite thread! :goodvibes

Can anyone tell me the best book to purchase about the secrets of Disney? I want to bring it on vacation with me when DBF and I go, and I dont have an iphone.

Ditto not having read the whole thread... but I assume someone here has posted about the bulldozer also down there. It freaks my kids out every time they rent a sea racer thinking they might hit it. :rotfl:

The story behind the bulldozer goes something like this:

As we all know, Seven Seas lagoon is man made. The Disney corporation needed to do some maintenance on the lagoon which included draining it and moving the mud around by bulldozer. The most likely reason was due to the a fore mentioned wave machine which caused the Poly beach to erode so that the lake needed to be dredged often to replace the beach. Well, whatever they were doing, the bulldozer got stuck in the mud so bad it couldn't be freed by any machinery they had access to at that time and decided it was best to drain the machine of all fuel and oils and just flood over it. This story was first told to me by a cast member. You decide if it's myth or not.

CMs will never break character. It's true, true, true. Wen you are talking to Alice in Wonderland, you are ALWAYS talking to her. You can address questions of park business and she will have no idea what you are talking about.

Hmmm... the Fairy Godmother really pushed a pin on me at a character meet near the entrance of the park.. said it was limited, not many were left, and it would be worth a lot one day. I ended up buying one because it was MSEP which i love but..... not exactly in character for her. :confused3

This is true! When we were in WDW in October of 2004 or 2006, Florida had been hit by several hurricanes that year. Some damage had occurred in WDW as well. While we were on the Kilimanjaro Safari, another guest asked the driver if the savannah had suffered much damage from the hurricanes. The driver, totally in character, replied, "Hurricanes? You mean the ones that hit the United States? No, they did not cause any damage here in Africa." It was so funny! That guy didn't ask any more questions either!

LOLOL :lmao: :rotfl2:

That is hysterical!!!

We always tease them in character, to see if they'll break or just to have a lil "in character" fun with them. One time we were at Chef Mickey's and my brother was with us on his first wdw trip for his 26 bday. When Minnie came over, we told her that she was his favorite character and that he had been 'patiently awaiting her arrival'. This wasn't true, but we just wanted to have some fun with the characters at his expense. She came over and put her hand out for him to kiss her hand. He played along and did it. Then, she grabbed him by the arm and pulled him to the center of the room and motioned for him to get down on one knee. He continued to play along. Then, she put her hand out again for him to kiss it. Everyone around us was laughing. It was so funny to watch this tall muscular guy being teased and bullied like that.

Then, we teased Minnie by asking her what Mickey would think of her doing acting this way with another guy. It was very funny.

I said something similar to Mickey at the meet n greet in the Animation Tour area in DHS. He was kissing my hand and pointed to my wedding ring and shook his head no. It was so funny. So I teased and said, "I'm telling Minnie on you." To which one of his handlers very LOUDLY replied, "Remember, Mickey and Minnie are JUST friends!" I was like geesh, lighten up dude :rotfl:

That is true - my daughter was a CM (MK train conductor) a few years ago, and she still does the two finger point :)

I've never been a cast member and I still do it! Guess I've been too many times!

Here's my few:

On the right hand side of Main Street, above the Confectionary, is Roy's window. About halfway down on the left hand side is a window for a "Dr. Card Walker Psychiatrist". Then, as is common knowledge, on the right hand side facing the Castle above the ice cream shop is Walt's window. Here's why Card is in the middle: back in California, the boys had offices on either side of Card's. When they would fight, they would always use him as an intermediary. Walt would tell him to tell Roy something and vice verse. Hence why Card was credited as a psychiatrist and given a window between the Disney boys!

In the alcove on the right side of Main Street there's a window labeled as a Tap and Ballet studio. Every so often, the sounds of tap dancing or classical music will drift into this area!

The drop in Pirates of the Caribbean is because you go under the train tracks.

Splash Mountain is registered as a pool!

The Tiki Room is a gigantic lightning rod. The "thatch" is actually metal strips!

At the AK, the thatch on the roofs in Africa is fake, but Disney got real thatchers from Africa to come thatch their roofs! They even had to get special permission from the state because the thatchers worked barefoot, which is against building/construction regulations!

There's something wrong with Bluebeard's gravestone at the Haunted Mansion. Know what it is? His date of death is 1440, before the New World was discovered. 1440 was actually Yale Gracey's (one of the main imagineers on the Haunted Mansion project and the namesake for Master Gracey, the caretaker of the ride) extension number!

Somehow this thread morphed!
Started out about the psychology of MK and turned into "little known facts". ;) (but they are fun too!)

Would love more about the original topic if anyone has any.

Hahaha... that's when I would have responded "Yeah? That's the phrase most males use when denying their significant others..."

There are no restrooms in Liberty Square because there were no restrooms during the colonial time.

However, law requires the restaurants have restrooms, so the ones at Columbia Harbor House are strategically placed so they are technically in Fantasyland. The Liberty Tree Tavern restrooms technically reside in Adventureland./QUOTE]

There are bathrooms upstairs at Liberty Tree Tavern.

Ever notice there are no mirrors over the sinks in theme park bathrooms? This is so women don't fix up their hair and makeup there and cause congestion for those waiting to wash their hands. Mirrors are over to the side!:thumbsup2

Many imagineers have left hidden messages on rides as a way to tell people that they were the creators of the ride....Listen closely for "go FSU" right before going up the tall hill on Splash Mountain, and the 3rd Headhunter in Jungle Cruise shouts "I Love Disco!"

A weasle pops down from the sealing saying "Go FSU!" It doesn't come down often I've only seen it twice when the logs were backed up to get onto the lift hill before the big drop.

Don't know if it's true or if it's an urban legend but it is told to new CMs at some orientation sessions. A few years back Disney was sued by someone that blamed them for a stone that fell off the castle and hit them. One minor problem. The castle is not made out of stone. It's mostly fiberglass made to look like stone.

This is true, I read it in a unofficail book that had a chapet about lawsuits filed against Disney. I'm not sure of the name I read it about 10 years ago.

I'm sure I read he only built MK first in florida to generate a constant income to support the building of epcot. He always had it in his head that he was going to make a bigger and better MK after being disatisifed with all the motels and billboards cropping up around Disneyland.

I think that was from the book Realityland so if someone has it they could confirm.

EPCOT was an idea before WDW was. The reason MK was built was partly to generate income and also so Florida the state would give concessions to Disney.

At one time, that was the largest HM, but over the years renovations, additions, etc, in that area have pretty much done away with it (see the satellite view). I believe that because it hardly looks like Mickey anymore, most HM experts have removed it from their lists. It was neat while it lasted though. As far as I know, the one at the speedway is the largest recognizable and official HM. Don't know if it has a name though. There are larger HMs here and there but they have to be on Disney owned property to qualify.

I heard an interview about a month ago were Steven Barret verified this HM. Steven is the author of "_____'s Hidden Mickeys A Field Guide to____"

It is still easy to find with a satellite view.

Goobergal99, I have looked for this phone on previous ocassions. I have even asked CM's to help me find it, no one seems to know what I am talking about. Which store is it in exactly? I have been in the Emporium, Exposition Hall, Main Street Confectionary, Firehouse Gifts , The Hat shop(Chapeu something), and Main Street Gallery to look for it. I would love to find it.

It's in the smuckers general store on the right hand side... I think right next door to the candy store. The phone is one of those old fashioned ones and it's right next to the register nearest the entrance! I will take a picture when I go back in a couple weeks and post it here :goodvibes

Alas, the Market House is no longer there. It is now a crystal shop. I was so disappointed to find the phone missing in 2008. This March, however, I found it in the Chapeau shop. It was located in the area where they sew the names on the hats on the outside wall. I believe DS-10 was a tad worried about his mom when I blurted out "the phone" and grabbed the receiver. :rotfl:
