What product do you use for another purpose?

I'm surprised no one's mentioned a use for duct tape! I use duct tape to remove plantar's warts and warts that show up on my hands.

OK, I'll bite... how do you do this?

I use duct tape for a bunch of stuff, but never this.

When ants get in the house, I spray them with Windex. It kills them and creates a barrier of some sort they won't cross (amonia). Much less toxic than any other ant killer I could purchase. A trick I learned here on the DIS. :D

I'm curious also, duct tape for planters warts?

Hairspray is excellent for spiders. It freezes up their icky legs so they can't move - and then - I smush em.

I use coke a cola to clean my toilets. Just pour a can into the toilet and swish it around with a toilet brush - leaves the bowl nice and shiny.

I use hairspray to get ink stains out of clothes

When I lived in Oklahoma, in the winter when my driveway was still iced over from ice storms, I'd sprinkle kitty litter over the ice for traction.

If I spill something that will stain on my clothes, I'll spray (non-aresol) hairspray on it before it sets in, then wash it whenever I do laundry next time. Even works on red wine spillage.

Robin, I tried the dishsoap in the wash and was really pleased. On the flip side of that, vinegar makes a good fabric softener. Doesn't make the clothes smell like vinegar at all. When you first open the lid to the washer, you will get a whiff of it, but the clothes don't smell like it at all.

Robin, Lori,

How much dishsoap do you use per load? I'd like to try this. And how much vinegar do you use? When do you put it in, just at the rinse cycle?

I love this thread. I've learned so much.

What a great thread. I have really enjoyed reading this. If I think of anything I do I will be sure to post it~I just can't think of anything now.

Keep 'em going!!!

I thought of another. I place a slice of regular white bread in a package of rock hard brown sugar. The next day the sugar is nice and soft but the bread is hard. I forget where I learned that from, but it works! :yes

I just thought of another one.

put kitty liter in an old sock ( perferably without holes) and place them in your shoes. This is supposed to keep them dry and absorbs the smell.

My neighbor used duct tape on his planter wart on the palm of his hand. It was gone in a week or so. I'm not really sure how it works but it beats liquid nitrogen to burn it off.

Keep them coming. Who needs Martha when we have the DIS!!

I carry a salt shaker with me in my pocket during the winter. If I happen upon some small patch of untreated ice I just shake the salt on it. Looks weird, but I hate winter anyway.

Anything to survive the winter (except for Christmas and Christmas vacation) !

This is a little off topic, but I freeze brown sugar as soon as I bring it home from the supermarket. Then when I need it, I defrost it (takes about 10 minutes), use what I need, and refreeze it. Now it never gets hard anymore! I read that on the back of a store brand brown sugar box about 15 years ago and I've done it ever since.

I also use mayonnaise as a hair conditioner, ond of the best ever!

This does work. I used to do that in high school till the smell got to me once. I'm gagging just thinking about that now....

I use the Microwave as a BREADBOX!:teeth:

Coca cola in the wash helps remove grease from greasy work clothes.

I use the microwave too for the bread because, so far, the cat hasn't figured out how to open it !

One other...I put old orphan socks on my water bottles so they don't sweat and drip. That also helps identify it at work.

Baby wipes to clean white leather tennis shoes. Learned this from one of the ladies at my DS's day care. She used them to wipe off the scuff marks that would show up on those tiny little shoes!

I have a friend that used the "duct tape therapy" on her kindergartner who had a wart on her hand. Here are two links with directions.

another use for the denture cleaner tabs: remove old nailpolish. drop one or two in a cup of hot water and soak your fingernails in it, about five minutes for each hand. It removes stains and gets your nails nice and white. When you are finished wash your hands with soap and water.
An easy thing to do while reading the Dis!

I just added a quick squirt of deterg. into the wash. Maybe just a tad more than if you were washing a load of dishes.

As far as the vinegar, I add it to my little softener thingy before the wash starts. I probably fill it 1/3 of the way w/ vinegar. Doesn't take much. If you don't have one of those in the washer, you would just add it during the rinse cycle. If I want that "fabric softener" smell, I have some cheap dryer sheets I bought from the dollar tree and I just throw those in the dryer.

White bread in homemade cookies to keep them soft.

BTW: The duct tape thing does work, I had a planters wart and I've was afraid of the liquid nitro... and I tried it and it worked. I just left the tape on the spot for a couple days removed it, it took off a chunk of skin, I had to do it two or three times but it works.

Love this thread... I'll try to think of more

What a cool thread. I can't think of anything to add, but I'll ponder it today.

Dear Tide:

I'm writing to say what an excellent product you have! I've used it all through my married life, as my Mom always told me it was the best. Now that I am in my fifties I find it even better! In fact, about a month ago, I spilled some red wine on my new white blouse.

My inconsiderate and uncaring husband started to berate me about how clumsy I was, and; generally started becoming a pain in the neck. One thing led to another and somehow I ended up with a lot of his blood on my white blouse. I tried to get the stain out using a bargain detergent, but it just wouldn't come out.

After a quick trip to the supermarket, I purchased a bottle of liquid Tide with bleach alternative and, to my surprise and satisfaction, all of the stains came out! In fact, the
stains came out so well the detectives who came by yesterday told me that the DNA tests on my blouse were negative and then my attorney called and said that I would no longer be considered a suspect in the disappearance of my husband.

What a relief! Going through menopause is bad enough without being a murder suspect! I thank you, once again, for having such a great product.

Well, gotta go. I have to write a letter to the Hefty bag people.

I don't think I use anything different....

I do the Bounce sheets in the drawer. I like the idea of putting it in the suitcases.

I love the bread in the brown sugar, that's big problem around here! Don't use it often enough... I don't think I am daring enough to try mayo or vinegar in my hair. Don't think DFiance would like it too much!!

Will have to try the duck tape as I have a plantar's wart on my foot that I can't get rid of and I am too lazy (scared) to go to the doctore. Had one cut off before and I didn't like that too much.... I should go though, it's getting deeper! Those DR. Scholl's pad's don't stay on...
