What product do you use for another purpose?

I use sandwich bags to pick up dog poop.

Hey, it works - I only buy the cheap store brand kind - costs very little and no pooper scooper to wash off everytime.:p

Actually, we just use the plastic bags they put the groceries in. Before that, I used to buy a rolll of the produce bags from the supermarket.

When the kids were babies, I used receiving blankets as a big burping cloth. Covers the entire back and shoulder better than those wimpy small pads.

I used receiving blankets for changing pad at public restrooms and as a quick bib.

To go along with the pooper scooper posts :p, I use the bottom part, the fold out part? of a cheapie tv table, open it and put a plastic bag over the frame. It keeps the bag open and standing up so you can load leaves or pooper scooped stuff into the bag without any fuss! LOL!

I love the tissue paper for drawers in hotel rooms! Great idea! Thanks!

I use cinnamon at my back door for the ants. Apparently they have the stuff.

Sorry, I have nothing to add, but I'm curious about the cinnamon and the ants. What do you do exactly?

I'm surprised no one's mentioned a use for duct tape! I use duct tape to remove plantar's warts and warts that show up on my hands.

I use the Microwave as a BREADBOX!:teeth:

Coca cola in the wash helps remove grease from greasy work clothes.

I have a friend who uses Preparation H on her face as a wrinkle cream - she really does look better. I'm not brave enough to try that.

Tommy and I use dryer sheets to keep mosquitoes away when we're outside. We tuck them in the waistbands of our pants/skirt or in the neckline of our shirts.

Murphy's Oil Soap on stained clothing. Scrub it in...wash....and the stain comes out.

Plastic grocery bags to line my bathroom trash can.

Walnuts or any other nuts to rub in on a piece of damaged furniture. Gives color to small areas that have lost their varnish.

Old panty hose to tie up plants and to use on the washing machine hose to trap lint.

Robin, I tried the dishsoap in the wash and was really pleased. On the flip side of that, vinegar makes a good fabric softener. Doesn't make the clothes smell like vinegar at all. When you first open the lid to the washer, you will get a whiff of it, but the clothes don't smell like it at all.

The baking soda in the hair is wonderful. Takes buildup out of your hair like magic.

I use Coke as a tenderizer in my roasts. Put about 1/2 to 3/4 c of Coke in the crockpot with my roast (lessen the amount of other liquid). I have NEVER had a tough piece of meat since I started this little trick. (I have also used root beer, when I was out of Coke) I heard not to use Diet for some reason.

Great thread!

Lori P. :)

Beth 76 - I just sprinkle the cinnamon right of the container near the edge where the door meets the floor inside or outside. It is supposed to be a natural barrier. I have done this twice after killing the little buggers. They never came back. It seems to be much better than ant spray because I have a 2 yr old that is into everything.

It seems that dryer sheets are the way to go. I was reading these to my DM and she was surprised by some of these. I think they will be implemented in her home as well as ours.

I used the berry smelling foaming hand soap (the pump one) to clean my toilet. I just got tired of the regular "pinesol" smells and I really like the berry smell.

Great thread! I didn't know about the cinnamon and ants. I have heard they will not cross chalk. The cinnamon works much better with a dog and a kitty in the house than any spray. Thanks!

I use baking soda and vinegar every so often in my kitchen sink. I'm sure there is other stuff that I should post, but I can't think of any of them right now.

White vinegar works great to kill weeds from between sidewalk or driveway cracks. (Be careful...it also kills regular grass.)
I buy the dollar box of denture tablets at the dollar stores. Drop one in the toliet bowl for a fresh smell, and a quick cleaning of the bowl. :)

Glad to hear it, Lori!

I also use ammonia to get RID of smells, especially urine stains and cat mishaps! I learned this from my old day care provider and it works like a wonder! I know, it smells bad but it gets RID of smells, too! :teeth:

I use regular dish detergent (not dishwasher type) to freshen the garbage disposal.

We use all purpose 409 instead of roach spray. It kills them and doesn't smell nearly as bad.

Another use for white vinegar: mix with water, cleans windows. Cheaper than Windex.

When I make chili, after I brown the meat and add tomato sauce & chili powder to it, I rinse out the tomato sauce cans with a little bit of white vinegar, and then add it to the chili. Helps tenderize the meat a bit and you use up every bit of the sauce too!
