Granted that the ship may have to move for part of the year, if you could choose -- whether realistic or unrealistic -- where would you like to see one of the new ships primarily based out of?

Yes, we know about the passage through the Panama Canal and yes, we know they can't dock in Hawaii without standards being changed -- but just for the heck of it, if anything was possible, what would you hope for?

Please don't turn this into a lecture site about the navigational requirements and laws and where the ship is registered. It's just a fantasy question for fun.

Mine? Hawaii and New York.

None the above. I would LOVE to go somewhere less "touristy" like Roatan I Honduras, or Guatemala. Whale watching, virgin beaches, scuba diving sounds good to me!

I voted for New York since it's only a 2 hour drive for me. but DCL has been very weak on cruises from there.

I picked Baltimore and New York simply because I live about 2 hours from each. Of course, there's also a tradeoff with northern ports in that you need additional at-sea days for Bahamas/Caribbean...

I am pretty sure that the new ships will be in the Carribean, as that is where the money is. However, I really hope that one of the ships ends up on the West Coast year round. I would also like to see Disney try some cruises out of New Orleans. Time will tell, too bad we have to wait so long! :)

Thanks for a great new thread!

I agree that they need a permanent ship on the west coast.

Thinking it through, if the ship could be based anywhere in the world, my pick would be Asia. Of the choices given, I voted for the West Coast. You can get a nice variety of Mexico, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii itineraries that way.

I knew there was another part of the world I forgot. I will try to add it to the poll.

DONE -- I should have made the listing alphabetical

I picked NYC simply because we can drive there, but I also picked the West Coast. I doubt we would use it very much ourselves but it just makes sense. West coasters would love a port they can drive to as well. Cross country flights aren't cheap!

ETA: Baltimore is actually closer to us than NYC, but I sort of doubt DCL would base a ship from there. NYC seems more viable as they've done it several times now, so I picked that for use in the NE.

Yay. I was looking at what other lines do for Asia itineraries and with a whole continent to explore, there are lots of fun itinerary options. I changed my vote.

I voted for the generic "west coast". I'd enjoy a north/south cruise along the west coast. Perhaps a couple of days in San Francisco, LA and Seattle?

I also voted for New Orleans. To me its a better port than Galveston.

There will eventually be a ship ported in Asia - one of the 6. Not sure it will be immediate when the new ships are launched but the captains have talked a lot about Asia as a port at the Castaway Club meetings.

NYC!!! Just a simple subway ride and couple of blocks' walk!! Easy peasy!!

That is one of the rumors that was in one of the articles I read. Seems like it would be a good fit for Disney. Maybe one of the new ships will have a Mulan theme.

NYC is just a couple of hours for us, so that would be amazing. I was going to also list Cape Liberty in New Jersey, but I don't see Disney opting for that over NYC. I'd also be willing to drive to Baltimore or Boston to avoid flying!

My only quibble/qualm with Asia is reading on other forums about other cruiselines that have ships based there a LOT of horror stories about those cruises. The market is entirely different there. I remember one case where due to weather a ship was rerouted and the vast majority of the passengers flat out refused to leave and had to be escorted off by local law enforcement simply because they did not get the cruise they paid for (forgetting they agreed to a contract that allows the cruiseline to make whatever changes they see necessary and particularly in the case of weather). It's not a market I'd want to embark from based on multiple reports of horrid behavior.

For totally selfish reasons I voted Europe!! Not expecting it though...

I am kind of expecting that the new ships will be primarily based at Port Canaveral for the first years. DCL made a deal with Port Canaveral that they got favourable conditions there in exchange for guaranteeing the new ships being based therere when Dream and Fantasy came. Since they will keep using Port Canaveral a lot in the future, I am sure they will use the new ships as bargain material for new port agreements. But I agree, it is nice to dream about other possibilites, however unlikely! :goodvibes
