What pin themes do you collect?

I am not a pin collector per se, but I am a pin trader! I have no interest in the value of pins or in collecting and saving them. However, I love the interaction with CMs and trading pins on vacation. I have only one lanyard full. I started by buying them on eBay, but have now it filled with pins from cereal boxes and battery pkgs. I'm looking for new theme ideas. Last year I traded all the ones I had for Mickey's w/transporation theme. e.i. Mickey in planes, cars, boats, on skate boards, etc. I would like to fill my lanyard with a new theme next month.

I trade only for villians. I will often buy villians as well, but when I buy with the intent to trade I usually go with the ones others like so I can get the vilians I like. I guess I never looked at it from a "collector's standpoint" don't know the worth, don't care, I too like the interaction between CM's and other guests and also like to join in on the fun. I guess I trade villians because they are my favorites. On vacations my kids have traded for only attractions, only states, specific characters, themes--princesses in windows, bottle caps, etc. All depends on the mood during that vacation.

DS: Villains!! Lilo & Stich, halloween theme and some Toy Story

DD: Hi-hos (dwarfs & snow white), Incredibles, Nemo (and other underwater pins like snorkeling Mickey) and Christmas theme

Basically both of the children, ok, all of us....really enjoy the interaction w/ the CMs and seeing all the neat pins. We aren't in it for the rare pins...or making $$$. It's just been a fun thing to do. And the kids love looking at their pins, and trading between themselves in between trips! DS wants me to find a place he can trade pins for real between trips, not just w/ his sister. Does anyone know of a place??? I'm leary as I wouldn't want him to be "taken" by someone if he did have a rare pin....but then, it wouldn't be rare to us....so maybe it's ok even if that does happen. :confused3

One Hundred Acre Woods characters, here! With a very special interest in piglet pins. As I sit here in my dining room I can view quite a few displayed in a glass curio cabinet.

Like you, one of the elements of pin trading that I love is the interaction it provokes with cast members, other traders, and "lay" folk. Once I had a little girl come up to me as we were waiting in the Philharmagic Q and ask if I would trade with her. I was delighted, I said you can have any pin you want. Her Mom said I made her day. Now that's some pixie dust!

Wow, some great ideas! But, what are "bottle caps"? And I've never heard of "One Hundred Acre Woods characters".

We trade quite a bit during our vacations but never really trade for a particular theme. If something catches my eye, I will trade for it. I do like to trade for the Japanese and French pins that you sometimes see show up on the CM lanyards.

I do, however, have a favorite character to collect. I have hundreds of Alice In Wonderland pins. I buy when in the park and off eBay. My kids also collect specific movies/characters. My son collects Toy Story pins and my daughter collects the princess and NBC pins.

Looking forward to our trip in October to let the collection continue to grow!!!!

See you all there....

Disney! It's gotten to the point of getting any one we don't have! A true disease this pin collecting is!

One Hundred Acre Woods characters are Winne The Pooh characters. The bottle caps are pins that Disney release about a 1 1/2 years ago that feature different characters on bottle caps for different flavored soda.

Not sure if you are aware of the site but my favorite Disney pin collecting site is Pinpics. You can visit them at www.pinpics.com.

Anything with Pluto on it.
I lost one in Disneyland in March, and I can't figure out which one it was. Bummed! I need a bigger lanyard.

Only theme park specific or NYC Specific. (Check out the World of Disney in NYC - the only out--of-state theme park store!)

I have been collecting disney pins since well before they started pin trading. I have some pins that are valuable but i really could care less they are for my enjoyment not for profit.

I have been getting my kids into pin trading and they love it.Just yesterday we were at WOD in NYC and we did the pin pursuit they had. It was the last day of the pin pursuit and we were there at the closing of the store so the CM gave my kids 12 pins to share. They were thrilled!

i did want to get only resort pins but so far they have been pretty limited.. love AK so thinking of getting ones for there

but i don't want to trade unless i buy some i don't want.then maybe i'll consider it...but then you can't wear any you want to keep right? like if it's on my camera bag, it's fair game???

JRawkSteady go to WOD soon they are setting up for Halloween infact they were ripping down the displays of NYC merchandise when i was there yesterday to make room for the Halloween stuff. They had new to me NYC disney pins too.

dd7 mainly collects dalmatians, pluto, dogs (lady & tramp, oliver & co., etc.) and donald. dd5 likes princesses and animals but I haven't seen any real pattern to her collecting lately. While dd7 pretty much keeps to her theme, they both will trade for anything that catches there eye. Had a very nice cm trying to talk dd5 into a nice LE pin last trip but she picked a Lilo sedesma one instead (which I think she traded away by the end of the trip). I've often seen pins I like and wish they would pick but don't -- I'm tempted to start collecting myself but I think 2 is enough for our family! :) Have fun!

I just trade for ones that catch my eye. No rhyme or reason, though the more unusual, the better.

DH likes any pin with a musical theme.

I don't think of myself as a serious collector monetary value isn't important to me...just whether or not I like the pin. Here is what I collect

Sleeping Beauty
Mickey Mouse Pins (Mickey snorkoling, Mickey as Pirate, Firefighter Mickey, etc)
Ride Pins
Huey, Dewy and Louie pins
I have one set pooh pins
And then some random pins I just liked!

We started off getting my DD pins with "meaning". We would buy attraction pins after braving rides such as TOT, etc. She has an I made the minimum height requirement pin, too. Now she also just picks what she likes. In fact, I am wearing my id lanyard at work today, complete with pins. Some of my Disney fan colleagues thought it might be fun to do, so we are! Kind of heavy though - don't know how long it will last!

I love all the WDW pins....but DD and I have so many, that we decided to limit it to only a couple "themes"
We love the Holiday ones and the park attractions.

I have them in shadow boxes on shelves..... :goodvibes I am looking at them right now! :goodvibes
I also have a small shadow box of the resort pins too..... thank goodness they aren't opening anymore resorts. :goodvibes

I haven't started a pin collection yet, but on my next trip (in 24 Days!!) I'm going to start collecting Disney Moms. I'm not sure who that will be since so many Disney characters are motherless. Kanga, Nala, fairy godmother...we'll see.

NB

I should add, my son collects villians. My daughter collects princesses. And my DP collects poohs around the world.
