Snakes are the only thing I'm truly phobic about. Other things wig me out a bit (heights, icky bugs, tight spaces, etc.) but I'm able to manage and work through those.
I just can't deal with snakes. No idea why--I've never had a bad experience with one. I can't look at pictures, see them in the zoo, and I avoid places where they're likely to be. Frankly, just talking about it has got me on edge a bit.
I'm torn over what to do about it. One the one hand, it doesn't really interfere with my life much. I just stick to biking on my neighborhood trails, pass on camping trips, change the channel when they're on TV, and wait outside of the reptile building while at the zoo. But on the other hand, it's an irrational fear and it seems like something "wrong" with me that I should work out. When I think ahead toward having kids I worry about passing it along to them, and also about not being strong for them. I dunno...
