What perks do the resort hotels have that the value resorts don't?

Since you're a DL vet, let me try this analogy.

Deluxe is staying at Grand Californian or Disneyland Hotel, while value would be like staying at a distant Good Neighbor Hotel (too far from the park to walk) just with a tad more theming.

You all may want to add that a couple of the moderates, where my home has been for a while with 1 exception to the AKL also have Water Taxi access to Downtown Disney. That being French Quarter and Riverside. Coranado has a spa and work out facility, which is also a good perk. AND Carribean Beach Resort, well.... this will be our first trip to in a couple of weeks. I know it has boating and a couple of other small perks.

Personally I find that to be a major perk as my family visits DTD several times throughout our visit. Plus the buses IMO going to and back to your hotel from DTD are generally more spread out if you ask me. Where you may see a Magic Kingdom or Epcot bus every 10-15 minutes or 20 minutes, sometimes you wait close to an hour for a DTD bus or at least a good 30 minutes depending what time of day it is. Mornings and early afternoon you will wait.

I so want to be a Deluxe family, but it just isnt in our stars. In the future we will start planning our trips differently and I think we will be able to get some Deluxe Stays in.

By that I mean that yearly now we have been spending money on Non Expiring tickets and building up stock of tickets. My Daughter was a cast member for a College program and she still has alot of CM friends there. So this trip we got a CM discounted room at 50% off and the DDP discounted as well. So if we keep it up with the ticket bank, we will in the future upgrade to a Deluxe at a CM discount. Should upgrade for this trip since it is such a high discount. HMmmmmm.

The toilet paper in the Deluxes is far superior. I'm not lying. :goodvibes

Totally agree. We went from Saratoga Springs to AoA and was like wow why does the toilette paper feel so different? As least I'm not the only one who noticed.;)

Absolutely nothing that is worth $400.00 per night. :(

Value is in the eye of the beholder.

I will never spend a minute at a Value but will happily scrimp and save an extra year for a deluxe. and not just because I can get a queen size bed.

This is true. I'm happy to not have the handicap of high standards. I get to enjoy disney more often.

My mom is the same way. I managed to convince her to give POP (so we could spend money on a bigger trip later) a try and she was quite impressed. Still refuses to stay at the All-Stars though.

Perks are the same. I would never pay any more than value. I don't go to Disney to hang out at the resorts. But we do go back in the afternoon. I would never up to $300 for a place to lay my head.

Monorails either running through resort or right out the front door. Convenience not only to parks but luxuries right next to you. As in mod. or value you sometimes have to walk a mile to even get to a bus. sheeesh Extra touches to know only form but function.:grouphug:

You may walk a couple of minutes.

You're right. I usually stay at deluxe hotels at Disneyland.

and because I only go every 3-5 years I don't get burned out.

don't look down at those of us who choose to indulge just because you don't think the same way. I could care less that some people will never do anything but Value. more power to 'em. means more room at AKL for me.

Eeeetsa worth it TO ME! Give me a resort with a walking distance to MK, a monorail option AND a motor launch option and at park closing nights it is worth it. Give me a superior size floor plan for the bathrooms. Give me a Narcoosee, California Grille, Ohanas AND Artist Point all nearby. And Lord sakes give me TONGA TOAST for breakfast at 0730 to get me on time for rope drops. And water sprites.

I wouldn't waste my money staying at a deluxe!!!

and not everyone considers it a waste.

that's why we have three different levels/price points to choose from.. and some of us have a fourth as well.. Shades of Green

Some of the major differences...

Distance to parks- Deluxe resorts will be close to at least a park (CR, Poly, GF, WL- MK; BC, YC, BWI- Epcot, DHS; AKL-AK)

Transportation- Deluxe resorts (except for AKL) offer a transportation alternative (boat, monorail, walk) besides bus to at least a park

Hallways-Deluxe have interior hallways while Value and Moderates have exterior hallways except for the suites at AoA (think about this carefully, with exterior walkways, it means your room's window is directly on the walkway whereas with interior walkways you have a window on the opposite side of the room and potentially a balcony or patio)

Restaurants- Mods and Deluxe have table service and quick service restaurants available, while Values have quick service only

Room Service- Can get room service at Deluxe resorts

Bar/Lounge- Mods and Deluxe have, Values don't (other than pool bars)

Amenities- I've found the towels to be better at the Deluxes vs. the Mods and Values

Themeing- Values have over the top, cartoonish themeing that tends to appeal to young children, Mods and Deluxes have more nuanced themeing

Bed Size- Values have doubles, Mods have queens (POR, POFQ, CSR) or doubles (CBR), Deluxes have queens

Room Size- Generally speaking, Values smaller than Mods smaller than Deluxes, but even within a category room sizes can vary (for example, with Deluxes, AKL and WL rooms are smaller than CR, Poly and GF rooms)

Pools- Available at all resorts, but Mods and Deluxes have a slide, while the Values don't

Hot Tubs- Available at Mods and Deluxes (other than Poly)

Fitness Centers- Available at Deluxes only (exception is that there is one at CSR which is a Mod)

Best analysis :).

Bottom line, you get what you pay for (convenance and perks come with a higher price tag), but all in all a Disney experience is available at all levels.

We have stayed at POR, SSR, CBR and our upcoming trip will be to the BC. There are pros and cons everywhere. Something I've come to realize on this board is to make the best of every situation and/or if you encounter something that makes you unhappy politely talk to a CM that may be able to help you.

No need to cut up the people that choose to stay at a deluxe, if you don't want to no need to say anything at all. Same goes for values.

This thread shows exactly why there are different categories; different people just have different priorities.

My personal favorite is Pop Century. It's pretty centrally located, the bus transportation is better that it is at the deluxe resorts, and it's considerably less expensive than the deluxe resorts. Those things are high on my list of priorities.

As for Monorail access, full service restaurants, and queen size beds, well, I couldn't care less. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with luxury, but that's not what I want in a Disney trip. At WDW, we use the room to shower and sleep - that's it. If we're awake, we're in the parks.

I'm sorry, but doesn't it say "Contemporary" in your signature?

For us, the first priority is a place that will sleep 5. That elminates all but the family suites at ASM, AOA, Fort Wilderness, and some of the Deluxes. (My son is WAY too big for the Murphy beds at POR.)

And, for the money we spend just getting to Florida, combined with the cost of park tickets, I'm not going Value or camping. I understand that it's exactly what others want, but it's not what I want. If there were a moderate that would meet our needs, we would certainly consider it.

We don't consider our resort choice to be a "waste"; it's simply our choice.

My work paid for that. And all I did was sleep and shower. Never even turns on the TV or opened the curtains. Yes a waste of money. I don't go to Disney to sit in my room. I

Ditto for me. It is worth it for me to brown bag it for lunch and stay in POR as a solo. I pay double occupancy, but it is my trip and I love it every year. The access to the water taxi for DTD and ending my evening at a wonderful resort meal is a plus to me.

and for families with very young kids who need to nap in the middle of the day, or people like me who are disabled and can only go from about 8-4 on a good day, being comfortable spending time at the resort is a MUST.

why do you have such a hard time accepting that not everyone has your priorities and requirements and why do you keep putting down anyone who doesn't share your penny pinching ways?
